Learn Elvish!

Okay, to start:

I: im

like: sui

elves!: galadh (technically means the elves of lothlorien, but Galadriel rocks.)

Please ask for words! I use Sindarin elvish.

Oo! This is perfect! My bff is obsessed with this, so hopefully this will help me understand what she's saying :)

How do you say Happy Birthday?

Admin, I'm asuming that Brookeira can't tell me what web site this came from. (If it came from one.)

Thank you!

You assume right, Stellarbee.

Cool! Would you mind translating these sentences for me?

What are you doing?

Goodbye, and luck be with you.

For fun. :-) I'd love to learn elvish! Great idea.

Did you get "sui" from French? And I want to learn some words too!

Thank you for making this thread!

How do you say "Hi, what's your name? I am Aranel Vanimedlë. (That's my Elvish name) Do you speak Elvish?"

Wanna know a funny story? Well I was talking to my friend R____, and she loves Elvis Presley, and I said, "R____ guess what!" "What?" "I'm learning Elvish!" "WHAT?????!!!! YOU'RE LEARNING ELVIS????!!!!" And I'm like, "Sure R____, stick to that story." And she says "What did I do?"

It was sooo funny!

I know this is probably really hard, but can you translate my name into elvish?

And how do you say grateful in elvish?

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sindarin is AWESOME!!! Thanks so much Brookeira for this thread!!

Actually, I was wondering if you could translate a scrap of Elvish verse into English. I found it in The Fellowship of the Ring, so yes, it's real Sindarin as Tolkien wrote it and not Neo-Sindarin.

A Elbereth Gilthoniel,

silivren penna miriel

o menel aglar elenath!

Na-chaered palan-diriel

o galadhremmin ennorath,

Fanuilos, le linnathon

nef aear, si nef aearon!

Actually, I'm not sure which dialect this is (Sindarin or Quenya). It's part of a song to Elbereth, sung in Rivendell.

Namárië. I speak Quenya, though nobody ask me to translate; I don't know that much.

Can anybody tell me where this elvish language came from? Like, is it just for fun? Or is it from Lord of the Rings?
