Appearance: A little bit on the tall side, with straight brown-black hair and green eyes.

Personality: Usually very shy and retiring, preferring not to call attention to herself. However, she comes out of her shell when she's at archery practice, has her nose in a book, or is on her LOTR fangirl website. ;)

Backstory: Is a descendant of Rivendell, but has no ring of power. She did inherit the elven talent for archery, though. She was adopted by the Bakers, and knows it; nobody, not even her parents, knows how she got to the orphanage...

Thea Baker was a nerd and a freak.

That is how everyone will think of me in years to come.

It's not that I try to make myself known. Quite the opposite, in fact. It's just that...well, things keep happening. Like the time I got lost in a book in class and didn't realize it was time to leave until the middle of the next period. Or when I won the state archery championships, and Principal Mudgett insisted on putting up a big poster about it in the cafeteria. Or the time I got caught on my Lord of the Rings fan site during science, and the teacher projected it onto the whiteboard where everyone could see it. Or the time when...well, you get the idea.

And the freak thing? You'll never believe it, but I have pointed ears. Not much, mind you, but just enough to get them noticed. For all my efforts to stay in the background, for all my skipping dances and wearing nondescript clothes and not joining any performance groups (though I'm rather good at playing the harp), I just seem to stand out somehow. Archery is no exception; the instructor, Mr. Arnolds, once called me "freakishly good." He's usually nice, but he gets on everbody's nerves once in a while. My bow, my books, my fangirl site. Those are my three holds on real life, a life where I can have someplace I belong. Where I don't have to fear being shoved into the limelight.

We've moved some six times in my fifteen short years. Every place was wrong. Either the house was too small, or Dad didn't like his work and quit, or there was trouble with bullies at school. It's gotten so I barely know which end is up, trying to fade into the crowd at six new schools where I have no idea how things work. And Mom has the thing with her cigarettes that make me want to puke, and there are the twins, who hate school, each other, and me. Past their A names, Andrew and Alden, and those three hatreds, they have absolutely nothing in common. My bow, my books, my fangirl site. Those are the three things that keep my head above water, that keep my whole life from crashing and burning and falling into oblivion.

I wonder what the elves, Elrond and Eowyn and Galadriel and all the others, would think of me? Forever a misstep away from who-knows-what?

They'd say, Do something about it, Thianeth. Don't just sit on your fanny feeling sorry for yourself. Get yourself a new life, find your place.
