What characters refuse

What characters refuse to do what you want? Please tell me, and here's mine... And, by the way... Ignore me if I go off topic.

 - Draco. Her original personality was... gets mad at anybody who  says a word against dragons. Loves dragons more than she loves any human on earth... not to mention that she's a part time dragon slayer with temper issues, I don't think she ever 'got mad at anyone who said a word against dragons'. Then again, this was when I was ten. Let's try again... This is later... Daring and a bit reckless, doesn't like to talk about her past. Dislikes formality, and gets mad at anyone who says a word against dragons..... Well. Last bit still isn't true. 'daring and reckless' is well, in some cases. And dislikes formality is true. Slightly better. Now, again... Daring and a bit reckless, doesn't like to talk about her past. Dislikes formality, and gets mad at anyone who says a word against bronzeclan dragons... This makes slightly more sence. But it still doesn't mention being short tempered.

She also keeps on trying to switch her eyes to brilliant green. I said they're hazel many times, but no. I've got that in control, though. Her personality, though... Has a life of its own.

-Sirius Ember. No matter how much I tell him not to fall in love, he still always ends up doing it! *cough* even if Holmes and Gigi are doing it *cough* . But never mind that. It's annoying.

---

In fact, my RP characters always seem to have a complicated love life. Spara, Draco, Sirius... And in Scratch, it's crazy. This one RP I own, it's about element powers... Both of my friends' main characters have a crush on one of mine.

One thing I want to do, in any future book, is kill off my main character. Like, literally make her die somewhere 2/3rds of the way through the plot. I don't know, I want to see how that works out. One way to make that even cooler/wierder would have the book in first person. Sorry, random thought.

Yes. KILL ALL THE CHARACTERS!!! Try writing that book.

I've never actually killed off a main character, mostly because my inner views of who, exactly, is the main character at any certain point, but I have gotten mad at some characters and then killed them off. But later, in my head and not on the computer, I realized that I actually really liked one of them despite all her faults and she was kinda necessary for the story, so I erased that and rewrote it.

Sometimes killing off characters is necessary because the cast gets too large.

I remember how you killed Luxuria. That was funny.

And I like to kill off characters too. Deren was getting to be a whiny and romantic idiot, so I killed him off and plot twisted him.

What I love even more than killing characters off is making them betray everyone and try to kill people. I'm writing this story right now, and I've got at least two major betrayals planned ;)

BETRAY ALL THE PEOPLE!

Or be a double agent!

Or think that somebody else killed somebody who was important to you when it was actually another person who was important to you!

__________

I actually forgot about Luxuria. Bleh. Luxuria. Fortis wasn't too bad, and I really liked Kyder. Poor Kyder.

KILIAN!!!

I'm reusing Thanskyder's name for a guy in a novel that's a prequel to my unfinished Nano, and he's a trueblood krathakian, which is a nearly extinct elf like race. But then he gets to live for basically ever as a god. So Kyder didn't die.

KILIAN!!!

This reminded me of when my friend said someone should write a book, and the whole time, you don't know the main character's gender.

I wrote a novel like that. It was called Dream. The main character's name was Dorunn, but besides that, you never found out anything about him/her. The book is a collection of 9 dreams about eight different person Dorunn knows. Each chapter is entitled with each person's name. The last dream is called Dorunn and is most a collection of Dorunn's thoughts about the way the eight other characers are bound together.

I actually wrote Dream when I was in fifth grade, and I just found it again. I really like the way it turned out. At some point I might rewrite Dream so the vocabulary in it is better.

Oh, God. Where do I start?

- Luca. "A rather dashing villian who spontaneously combusts on a regular basis". That pretty much sums Luca up. I intended for him to be a mildly amusing side character based on one of my friends, but one day he sprouted wings and fangs and became entirely creepy. I'm not sure how that happened. I've found that whenever I write in "a dashing villian", he'll turn completey creepy. So now I think I'll make Jordan creepy from the beginning.

-The Sugarbowl. Not really a character, but it has become somewhat of a school wide joke and I am now mildly disturbed. I wonder what kind of shenanigans it gets up to when I'm not around.

- Ivy. I tried to make her really bubbly and peppy, but she ended up developing a crush on Siq. I was very disturbed and had to flip back through the entire story to figure out exactly where she went wrong. It turned out that the girl I was using as a model for Ivy had a crush on me. Because I was modeling Siq after myself, Siq grew extrememly more moody after this point. So now my whole story was messed up, and I had to go figure out my own life before I could get back to those two. But now Ivy is back to normal and Siq is only slightly more grumpy than he was before, so that's okay.

- Maxwell Curie. I have been running a small "radio drama" for a while, and I think all the characters went some what haywire.  For instance, he started out with a Southern accent, but now he has a British accent. He has also grown more pompous, an act I didn't believe to be possible. His sister Annabelle has grown much less secure, she used to be such a strong character. Now she goes to a therapist just about every other episode. This is really my fault, because the therapist is one of my favorite characters. Annabelle's husband Charles is just as moronic as the day I made him, so he's okay. But I'm not sure what happened to Annabelle's friend Louisa May. She used to be this suspicious gossip, but she turned into a complete airhead. Well, she's funnier now so that's what counts.

This is just a small sample of my runaway characters.

Okay, I am writing a book right now and all of the characters ran away from me back in the planning stages. As did the plot. As did Paralell. You know what Paralell is? An alternate universe. A whole alternate universe ran away from me.

Now, Alex and Katharine were supposed to be best friends. They are now worst enemies.

Katharine used to be pretty, now she's rather unatractive with good hair.

Alex however developed blond hair. She also used to get relatively good grades and love math. Now she's a terrible student and hates all school subjects. And just school in general. But she enjoys science and war history for no apparent reason.

Katharine is good with tech and a general ice queen which I did NOT expect.

The fire spirit thingy disappeared completely.

George betrayed everyone and chAnged his name to Nox.

Quill also betrayed everyone, then died. Tragically.

Dale's personality is missing, presumed dead. Now I have to give him a new one.

Okay,  I think you get the point.

This thread is the REASON for the saying that writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia. *wise nod*

But actually (barring Dale's personality issues) I like it better that way. It's less clichéd.

A question for everybody:

Have you ever had a character that you could actually control?
