Terry Fox Day!
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Terry Fox Day!
Terry Fox Day!
So what did you guys do for TFD? I ran/walked around the neighbourhood 4 times- it took an hour and a half+- and yelled at passing cars, "Honk for Terry!" Turtle Jack's (a restaurant) also came and had a BBQ.
Also, the guy who set the Guinness world record for most consistent drum-playing visited my school and talked about why he did what he did, how he battled cancer, and the like. He's a really good speaker.
And finally, four people raised $730+ FOUR PEOPLE! I honestly can't wait to hear how much the entire school raised... and I'm pretty sure all the money's going to cancer research.
I know that all countries don't celebrate TFD at the same time, but what did/will you do for TFD?

TFD?

In 1977, Terry Fox was 19 when he was diagnosed with cancer- osteosarcoma specifically- and had to have one of his legs amputated. He was able to walk with an artificial leg three weeks later.
On April 12, 1980, Terry began the Marathon of Hope in St. John's, Newfoundland- he planned to run across all of Canada to raise awareness and money of and for cancer.
His run ended on September 1 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The cancer had come back and spread to his lungs. He passed away on June 28, 1981. His marathon had raised $1.7 million.
Terry Fox was Canadian and a big inspiration here, so that's why we celebrate TFD (Terry Fox Day).

Oh, is that what it is? In that case, it's a great holiday that we really ought to celebrate in the US. Maybe I'll try and do something next year. That is really inspiring.
