Schoolschoolschool!
Schoolschoolschool!
So school here in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada begins on September 2 which is only five weeks from now. And, I'm going to a new school- it will be my fourth- and it's a public school. I've never been to one before. Does anyone know what they're like? Or have tips on moving schools in general?
And does anyone here go to an extended or emmersion school? And for those who are wondering, an emmersion school is where you speak a different language (e.g. French or Spanish) most of the time instead of English and extended is where you speak a different language for 50% of the time. I'm going to a French extended school (yay!). *loves France*

Well, I speak English, and English only, but I can help on the public school issue. I'm one of the 2 or 3 people on here that isn't homeschooled. I've moved to different schools many a time also. Basically, it isn't how all those corny teen movies make it out to be. There aren't "cliques" and whatnot, but the majority of the time, people will have their own little group of friends. My advice? If you don't already know anyone there, attempt to befriend someone in the middle. You don't always have to be extremely nice to the weird kid that no one likes (although it is a kind thing to do.) You also shouldn't go out of your way to befriend the so-called "popular" group either. Just find someone nice.
As far as teachers and the actual work goes, from what I've heard, public schooling is a lot easy than homeschooling, although it always depends on the circumstances, of course. Just always pay attention to the teacher and takes notes. No, it won't always be on your level, as with public school, everything will be generalized, and a lot less personalized. If you read a lot, language arts and such should be a breeze. Math, on the other hand, seems to either come easily or not. Just pay attention and you should be fine. Same thing with the rest of your classes.
Well, I'm not sure if that was helpful or not;it's just some general advice that I follow my self. Have fun!

Goodness, it sounds so lovely to start in September. As I've said before, schools in the South start WAY TOO EARLY. My sister's high school begins August 1st. That's a chunk of summer! No fair. I'll start at the very end of August, though. I'll be a *10th grader*!!

@Mary Jo: You start in August? Really? I know some schools start in June but I didn't know August. When do you guys end?

The public schools near me will start August 18, but we will start the Monday after that.
@MJ Congratulations on your 10th-graderness! :)

@ Olive--the schools start early thru mid-August and finish at the end of May. Being homeschooled, I start and finish a little later.
