Let us know if you're getting that account, so we can buddy you!  Hopefully your dad will approve of the site.  Then you can join those of us who are crazy enough to write 50,000 words in a month. :)

Yes.  At least my parents would think so.

I don't consider it dangerous. The only potentially dangerous thing is that the forum isn't moderated--but you don't have to go there--and there's a private messaging system that some people use to get personal info about each other, so if someone was a stalker in disguise, and innocent person could get hurt. But you don't have to give out any personal information, or even read your private messages if you're afraid they'll contain something inappropriate.

Aspiring author, if you want to do NaNo but your parents think the website is dangerous, you can still write 50k in a month if you want! it might not be the same, but it's the closest thing there is.

Hey Admin, I think we're on at the same time!!!

@Ima: They don't think it's dangerous.  I haven't told them about it!!  And actually, I'm trying.  I started yesterday and have *checks* 2,992 words, yay.  But I won't show it to them until I've personally edited it.

Spammy says dahd.  Dad?  What does Dad have to do with this?  I could tell you, but I'd rather not.

Oh, okay. So it has the same risks as for example Facebook or Twitter? It doesn't have Admins like the ones here if I understood right. I don't think my parents would let me do it either... :)

Well, the forums have those risks. You don't have to use those at all, though. I don't. If you don't use the forums or the private messaging system, I don't think it's less safe than most othoer websites... The difference is that Facebook and Twitter are for communicating, whereas with NaNo, you communication is optional. But the communicating has the same risks if you choose to do it, yes.

You can always sign up for YWP (Young Authors Program) , which is where you can set your own goal, and it is for school aged people.

I have a YWP and a NaNoWriMo. It's not dangerous in the least. It's quite fun! You should join!
