A Debate
I wanted to make a thread that would last a long time like R~D~'s thread debating if children under the age of 11 or 12 should have cell phones. But I don't know what to debate. I have debated with people about a lot of topics but I don't remember what they were. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Well, you could do creation vs. evolution. But since that's reallly controversial, why not ...*googles it* how about...Books vs. Electronics. Should books be replaced with technology? Or should we preserve books?
Kicy says hnnn.

I like your second one. Okay so a debate on electronics vs. books.

That's good, but it seems like there's not a whole lot to say on that subject. But I have no other suggestions, so whatever. Many debates that have lasted 10 pages or so have been outlawed, so I don't really know!

What do you mean outlawed? I actually have a lot of topics but they would be hard to do by typing.

Erm, just not really allowed. Or, better off if not debated. Like religion, creation vs evolution, Jonas Brothers and Twilight... stuff that gets us really hyper and into it, to where we get defensive and offend people without really meaning to. I really super enjoy those kind of debates, and I don't mind when people state their opinions. But... I'll just have to think of a good topic. :)

((Can't see Ima's comment)) Whoa, I messed up on that last post. I didn't mean I enjoy the debates where people get offended! That would make me one cruel character! I just enjoy intense debates, (or at least reading them) to where I can add my two cents worth every page or so. :D

Hahaha, "religion, creation vs evolution, Jonas Brothers and Twilight". Just so long as people care about these issues...

I think people can use electronic books if they want, and they can also use regular books if I want. What's important to me is that they have a choice; I'm worried that eventually, physical books might die out completely. That would be very bad, in my opinion. Yes, ebooks are a step forward in technology, but some people don't like them. Personally, I prefer physical books. I sometimes just feel lost without a book in my hand, and I doubt a Kindle or something would be the same. Also, I'm easily distracted when on electronic things; it's all so bright and flashing and I keep just being mesmerized instead of doing what I need and/or want. I know that not everyone is like this, though; in fact, I'm a minority, so I don't have any problem with other people using ebooks. In fact, I'd really like a Kindle. It would save having to carry seceral books while traveling, and books on a Kindle cost less. On the other hand, they're really expensive, and all the disadvantages I mentioned are enough to keep me from having bought one so far.
Then there are online books. I often find myself less interested in books on the computer than physical ones, but I still use online books when the full text is readily available and I own no other version.

About books vs. electronics... I personally prefer physical books. It's harder to find where you left on computers or ebooks on something like an iPod or iPhone or whatever. I've never used a Kindle, however, so I can't say anything about them.
Anyway, what about public school vs. private school vs. homeschool?
(March 18, 2011 - 6:55 pm)
Don't forget virtual school! It's what I'm doing. I used to be public-schooled, though. I like this better overall because I don't have to sit through lessons where I have to 'learn' something I know already (I can just do the assessment on it), but like I said, I'm not sure I learn as well online as I do other ways. Anyway, I've never been private schooled or homeschooled, but I'd like to be homeschooled sometime if it's ever possible. I have absolutely no idea what private school is like; I expect it really depends on the school.

I am against ebooks.
Not really against, but I don't see much point in them. Maybe if you have a bad back or something and can't carry them around all the time. But, honestly, I would not be a proud author if all my books ended up inside a kindle and I never once saw my book cover used.
Why do you think that bookstores are going out of business? It's probably because everybody uses thier credit card to download it on thier iPad rather than filling up the antique bookshelf.
(March 18, 2011 - 8:27 pm)
I think the ease of finding and ordering books online also contributes to the decline of regular bookstore business.

@Admin: Yeah, it probably is part of it, I know my mom uses that quite a bit...
So do I, Charlotte, and I always feel a bit bad when I do because I like to support the local bookstore. But when the roads are snow-drifted or icy, it's so convenient to shop from home.

I haz a Kindle, and I am in love with it.
"Also, I'm easily distracted when on electronic things; it's all so bright and flashing and I keep just being mesmerized instead of doing what I need and/or want."
Kindles are not bright and flashy. They don't even emit light.
"It's harder to find where you left on computers or ebooks on something like an iPod or iPhone or whatever."
Kindles automatically go to the last page you were on. That was easy. XD
