Bad, bad, bad.... I can't imagine killing poor, innocent mammals just for their fur. :( I think feathers are bad, too, especially since I have a bird. MEAN! It is NEVER acceptable! :P

I think it might have been acceptable in prehistoric times, but not nowadays. I mean, if you kill an animal and use everything, that might be acceptable. But we have things called "technology" and "synthetic materials" now. Fur is STUPID!!!!!!!
(January 2, 2009 - 6:35 pm)
You can't make synthetic feathers, you know. I wouldn't feel too bad about having a goose-feather pillow, though, because the geese were undoubtedly someone's Thanksgiving dinner. But other than that I absolutely agree. Who needs real fur?? Fake fur's good enough.

Yep, the fur industry is pretty sick... The other day my sister and I saw these adorable sleeping cat figurines, but then we looked on the bottom and it said 100% rabbit fur! GASP! I cant imagine skinning my bunny! On the other hand, even though I'm a veggie, I can't seem to wean myself of leather, for say, shoes. Do you other vegetarians wear leather and other animal "products"?

THE CATS!!!! I know!!! My piano teacher got me one, a looong time ago, and I thought it was so cute!! Then, a few days later, I looked on the bottom and saw that!!! I was disgusted!!! :(:(:P:P I don't wear leather or animal products. I would probably start crying every time I put them on. :D:D

Actually, the geese and ducks are slaughtered and thrown away. And there are foam pillows. :)

I've always wondered why people wear fur... You'd think it'd be kind of... scratchy. *shrugs*
It's never acceptable. *shifty eyes* Animals... *cough* are an awful lot more decent than human beings. Leave 'em be, I say. *whips out Crumbly 3.0* *waves in a vaguely threatening manner at people who buy/sell fur* *people who buy/sell fur run screaming from the threat of pie filling in their precious (scratchy) garments* *chuckles hysterically* *runs after*
Ahem.

I think that, now that we have fake fur, we can live with that. Fake fur is so much more cheaper, (I think??) and they are both so warm! I never bought real fur... well I don't THINK I did... I might have when I was smaller.

I think that if the animal is gonna be killed for meat the other parts of it should be used as well. Like if someone's hamburger is also their shoes. But otherwise I think it is wrong. I don't think animals (especially endagered ones) should be killed for their fur. However I think animals that can be shorn like alpacas, vicunas, angora rabbits, sheep, etc. is perfectly OK. The sad thing is that most of say these things and then go ahead and buy fur. Like I saw this adorable (and outragously priced name-brand shoes) with a chinchilla rosette on them, and they were so cute. So the fur industry is one other thing I think will not be ending any time soon.

Just like the Indians! Whenever they killed something, they used every single part of the animal. (or most of it)
(January 5, 2009 - 7:16 pm)
Yeah! They even used DEER BRAINS. To soften leather. Icky but not wasteful. I think that's good.

My good friend and I used to play dress-up all the time when we were younger at her house. My favorite thing to be was an Indian, because she had a really cool Native American dress. To accent my outfit, I always used this silky fur shawl. I never paid much attention to it, since I was little and all I cared about was the game, but one day I learned it was made of real fox fur. I never wore it again.

Yes it's me; I couldn't do it!! Ahhh!!
1. To Willa: Most veggies don't wear fur\leather\etc., but some people wear secondhand things, justifying it by the fact that they aren't supporting the fur industry. But I couldn't bring myself to do that...
2. TNO, I didn't know you were big on animal rights! Cool!
(January 4, 2009 - 6:20 pm)
I mean, I wouldn't go out and join PETA or anything... But really... It's pointless. It's cruel. It's not even reliable (as you mentioned). And, as I said before, most animals are a lot decenter than the average human.
As to hunting... Poaching, hunting for sport, as far as I'm concerned, is worse than animal testing is because... the only benefit is bragging rights. And a pretty head to mount on your wall, if that's your style. Animal testing, while mostly pointless, is at least able to produce a logical-on-paper argument as to the benefits.
Of course people hunt around here (it's Wyoming, OK?), but I don't have a problem with it because all (or most) of the parts get used. People actually eat the animals they kill. I know plenty of people with homemade ropes they've made from the remains of deer or elk. It's not exactly surviving by eating animals and using every last scrap, but at least people I know who hunt aren't those "oh lulz animal head" idiots.

Yeah... ;)
