Dear Cricket Admins,

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Dear Cricket Admins,

Dear Cricket Admins,

I have an idea for you!!!!!

I think it would be so much easier if you guys put in a search bar (or icon)!!

You see I have posted some threads that I need to check on and I can't find them!!

So my mom said I should reccommend it to you!!

Please consider my idea!!! Thank you, Vida!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, Vida. It's been suggested before. We're a small staff, and I'm not sure we know how to do that. But our Websmaster is keeping a list of suggestions. And some other Chatterboxer may tell you how to search for Chatterbox threads via google. I think they've figured out a way to do it.

I agree that it would be nice to have a way to search besides Google, which occasionally doesn't work and certainly always has many more results than are necessary.

Anyway, you type in 'cricket (or cricketmagkids; either works) chatterbox [insert whichever forum the thread was in] [insert words you remember being on the thread].

Also, if you can't find a thread you made, try checking the last page. Sometimes they end up there. Or maybe you already knew that.

It's easy to do with Google, Vida. Just type in (without the quotes) "site:www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox". Then put in the subject of the thread you want. So if you are looking for a thread about Percy Jackson (just a random example) type in "site:www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox Percy Jackson". Works every time.

If you know the name of the thread you want, you can click the link that says "Subject" and browse alphabetically.
Hope that helps!

Also, if you remember what day you posted the thread on, you can click on submitted by.  Everywhere except BaB it will show you the threads from the first thread posted to the most recent one.  On Bab (Blab about Books) it will show you the most recently posted threads first.

But if you click it again it can do vice versa, for convenience. Same with alphabetical order—click it again and it switches to starting with Z and ending with A (I'm not counting threads that begin with anything other than a letter, because I don't even remember which are the beginning and which at the end, and I don't want to check).

And if you click on 'Replies,' it'll take you to the threads with the most replies. Or maybe it's the least—I don't remember. Either way, click it and vice versa...

Google actually has not worked well for me. Dunno why. I'm still in the search bar fan club, but of course it's understandable that if Cricket people can make an awesome mag, their specialties will be in places other than web design.

Speaking of suggestions, I had one but then I think I figured it out. I was sort of wondering about the reason there was a limit on how long your name and age could be, but not your location. Then I realized that the name and age of thread-makers are visble on the lists of threads, but the locations aren't. If longer names and ages were allowed, there wouldn't be enough room on the forum homes and it would be more difficult for everyone. But... if that's the case, could I suggest something else, since the Webmaster is keeping a list? I think that it would be nice if we were able to have longer names and ages in our comments, even if we can't do threads. I've noticed people, including myself, put parts of their names in their location slots (especially in Warriors RPs) or their entire ages in their location slots (okay, this is impossible to actually notice, but I know I've done it more times than Ican count). So since I don't think anyone else has ever suggested it, I think I will...

We'll pass that along as well. To the people-who-understand-computers. (having experimentally added several a's to the end of your name, it seems like we allow you a pretty long space...are there people who can't fit their names? Likewise, is anyone really have ten digits in their age?) -Admin

Well, it's mainly in RPs that people have extremely long names... Like Warriors. In a Tribe, someone might be, say Whisper On The Night Wind (someone actually was, I think), which is too long. Then again, it could be argued that maye we shouldn't use such long names in our RPs. I do like the name, though. She ended up posting the 'Wind' part in her location. Or, once I accidentally posted somewhere I wasn't exactly supposed to, so to let people know I wasn't just breaking my agreement, I was going to write 'Ima—sorry (accident)!' in, but that wouldn't fit, so I did 'ImaSorryAccident.' Spaces wouldn't fit. And no, I don't think there are 10-digit-old people. It's more if someone wanted to include words. For example, if someone had their 15th birthday tomorrow, they may want to write '14, but I turn 15 tomorrow!' in the age slot, or at least '15 tomorrow'. But neither fits.

Not, of course, that it really matters overly much. It would be nice, but I certainly don't mind at all if nothing happens. I was just explaining so that I didn't sound like I was just asking for the sake of asking or anything.

Alright, we'll look into it! -Admin

I totally know what you mean, Ima. I was always wanting to write, "Going on 15", but all that would fit is "Going on 1".
