PETS!!!!!! Talk about

PETS!!!!!! Talk about your pets here. What's its name? Is it a boy or a girl? What type? A dog, a cat, a hamster, a fish, a pony, a snake? What's the funniest thing your pet's ever done? What about past pets? Do you still treasure them? Anyway, just talk about anything pet related!

I, myself, have a orange tabby tom kitty named Diamond (don't ask about the name!), two fish tanks with tropical fresh-water fish like neon tetras, catfish, a gourami, and a betta, a normal leopard gecko named Fall whose's a boy, and a new arrival! I just got a baby female corn snake whose's very pretty named Ginger. She's very thin and has very pretty red and orange colors (like my cat!) Laughing

My first pet was a betta fish and I named him Goldy Blue because he was a dark blue with yellow front fins. I was about 5 at the time, and it was a birthday present from my grandfather. He died when I was 7 years old, and then I got a parakeet! I named him "Birdy" (It wasn't actually his name; we just called him that) but we had to give him away. Frown I got a cat about a year later, and Diamond came along into our house! I got my first fish tank and I got a new betta who lives in there like a king with a catfish. We got hermit crabs, but they didn't do so well. . . they all died, so then I got my leopard gecko and another fish tank and now I have a snake which I got at the reptile expo in San Mateo this year.

Anyway, you can tell I LOVE animals!

P.S. I wished I had a dog, but my cat HATES dogs and will either run away if its big or kill it if its a little dog. So its not a very good idea. . . my cat's a warrior cat and looks suspiciously like Firestar in warriors. . .

I have 2 dogs named Sally and Sam (girl and boy). I also have 2 cats, Sweetie and Oreo (girl and boy). I also at some times of the year have up to 5000 cattle. (We own a feedlot!!) And then there are the 20 stray cats hanging around with their at least 8 kittens.

And for my long rant about my wonderfully fabulous doggies and kitties and fishies and dust mites that I've ranted about many times! Yay! I shall begin...

Oldest to youngest...

So, there is Cassidy, my fifteen year old, old man dogg that is going to be sixteen in June/July. He's grey and black and white and brown(ish) thick fur. Used to have less grey... He is slightly deaf, but he's probably happy about that because of all the yelling and screaming around here. His middle name is Rue. cassidy Rue. Or Cassie Rue...

There is also P.J., short for Peeboy Jr. My family didn't name her; we didn't even know what PJ was short for until a friend told us this year. She was named after one of her mean owners friends who peed on a chair. She peed on a carpet, and that was where she got her name. She is going to turn twelve next month! She has ginger coloured fur. She also has three legs. The other leg had to get amputated because it got broken. The person she used to live with said it was a car, but we think that it was his leg in a perposeful swing. Now PJ's just P Josie.

And theres Quinn. he is black with some doberman markings of tan. he has no tail because someone who he used to live with tryed to get it off himself. it was rotten when Quinny came to us. but now he's a happy little chubby puppy.

And I need to leave 'cause my dad wants me to do the dishes. I'll post everyone else later...

I won't possibly be able to match the amazing amount of pets that others have, but I will again tell everyone my deal.  So, I have goldfish in the unfortunately man-made pond outside, but everybody outside (egrets, herons, ibises, raccoons, etc.) thinks they're the best snack in the world, so we have to replace them a lot.  They are called feeder fish for a reason.....

Anyway, I raise guide dogs.  These guide dogs will go to blind people and guide them (hence the name) if they make it through the tough and selective program.  We raise these dogs from about 8-10 weeks until they're about 14-16 months.  We've trained three dogs, and two have made it (one is still with us, though not for long).  Their names were/are Derek, Mina, and Lancer.  We raised Derek for a month or two and then handed him off to another raiser.  He made it through the program and is now guiding in Las Vegas.  Luckily, he's a yellow lab and doesn't have to worry about the heat too much.

Mina was our only girl so far and she was a black lab.  She made it, but only a few months into her guiding was retired because of her dog distraction.  We think it's because she was in a house with four other dogs, but you never know.  She now works as an ambassador dog, going to schools who have kids who are potential guide dog users (so blind children).  Apparently, she has helped and inspired a few kids.  Though I was sad that she was retired, that story just warmed my heart.

Now we have Lancer, the adorable yellow lab (who's 15 months and HUGE).  He goes back on the 25 of April, and I'm going to miss my Lancer Prancer (and he really does prance, I'm not kidding you!).  He's awesome as all our dogs were/are.  Lancer is really a people person (dog, I mean) and he always wants to be with us.  His favorite scenario would be one where the whole family (mom, dad, and I) are in one room, he's fed, and nobody leaves.  Whenever we're in a scene like this, and someone leaves, he always follows them.  It's like he's thinking, "I already know what these people are doing, but the third person is going into the unknown.  Cool!"  And though he's big and sort of oldish (for a guide dog at least), he's a real kid/pup at heart.  He always wants to be with you and loves to play.  He's so perfect!

Since I don't feel like typing out the whole guide dog process, making this post really long, and annoying the Admins, I'll just say: if you have any questions, I'll answer them and not bore you with too much info.

So yeah, that's our pet situation.  I think I said more on the previous pet thread, so you can check that out if it's possible to find it.  Nice thread, Nicole!

Oh yes, and this is completely off topic, but it's really awesome that you live near S.F., Nicole!  I've been there and it's a great place.  I live in SoCal, and I have to admit, I prefer Nothern California.  Ah well, my town is pretty nice, so I shouldn't complain.

(This is Nicole P, everyone, just with a different name)

Yeah, isn't San Francisco awesome? Oh, Leaf, you are really lucky to raise guide dogs! I wish I could do that.

By the way, anyone here have chickens? Because my family might get some.
