Problem thread!
Okay, I had an idea for a thread. If somone is going through a problem, they post it on the thread. If you read a post that has a similar problem to one you went through, you post what you did to solve the problem. It's basically so that experienced people can share their knowledge, and inexperienced people can learn.
My problem involves... boys. *Blushes* I know one boy who likes me, but he moved to Florida. I know another boy who is in my class, and I have a crush on him. My problem is, I don't want to hurt the boy in Florida.

I agree! Girls are thinking too much about boys these days. What's the point? (I'm homeschooled too by the way) I mean, come on! You could be doing something useful instead of dreaming of some kid! (sorry boys)

Lauren M.? Homeschooled? 13? Washington? Do I know you? (If so, you were in my Drama class.)
(February 10, 2010 - 10:09 pm)
I don't think so. I've never done Drama, and I haven't been in public school since first grade.

Aw. Although it's not really public school, more of a co-op. But oh well.

Hahaha, sadly both of his brothers have graduated. (:

Wow, I tend not to even think of logical stuff! Haha... So let's see. The only other person from Gorham who goes to that youth group is the pastor's son, who lives in the neighborhood next to me. Wow, I feel quite unintelligent for not thinking of this. Of course, he only actually goes like once a month, at the most, but it'd be better than never. I'll have to ask him! Gracias, senorita! (:
Now, to answer your music question! First, within the past few weeks, I discovered the wonderful world of music, so I'm quite happy to help! Like you, at all hours of the day, the radio has always been set to the classical station (which unfortunately has probably no more than 40 songs. I have memorized them all, and can sit down at the piano and play them, even if I've never read the sheet music before). But when I bought my iPod, I knew my friends would look at it and probably laugh if it was only classical, so I decided to get some other music (trust me, I don't normally care what my friends think of me, but I decided I should have a wider variety of music). Anyway, I have a small amount of pop-like music, but I mostly have music that has no real catergory that I know of. Um. It's pretty calm music, generally with a guitar. But not all of it is. I don't know what it's called... Let's see... Here's what I have (and listen to the most) that you may or may not like:
Andrew Bird - pretty almost classical-like guitar and singing
Beirut - his music varies. Almost French sounding... He has an odd voice... Haha...
Bright Eyes - pretty much modern folk. He has a wavy voice.
Fleet Foxes - okay, I've actually never listened to them. But I can tell they're kinda guitar and singing, as most of my music is.
Jack Johnson - singing and guitar! And percussion instruments (not drums, but the other things)! He did the music to Curious George. You may have heard "Upside Down" or "We're Going To Be Friends."
Jon Foreman - guitar and singing. I love him very much so. His lyrics are quite deep. He's the lead singer in Switchfoot, but I like his album Limbs & Branchs (which is a collection of songs from his four solo albums)
Noah And The Whale - like everybuggy else, guitar and singing. He has a very deep voice, so if you plan on singing along, do it an octave higher (which is what I'm doing right now hahaha).
Owl City - Wikipedia classifies him as alternative rock, electronica, synthpop. I prefer synthpop. You've probably heard of him, or at least his song "Fireflies."
Regina Spektor - before she releases a song, she tests it and makes sure that it's unique and not like any of her other songs; because of that, each song has its own genre, pretty much. It's mostly piano and her pretty singing (probably one of the best musicians alive). Buuuut, her lyrics aren't always, shall we say, clean? But music normal people listen to is much worse (coughladygagacough).
Sufjan Stevens - piano/guitar and singing. Ohmygosh I love him. Some of his songs make me cry, but, for the most part, I have no idea what he's talking about; he's one of the only musicians I listen to who gets hundreds of comments on the song lyric meaning websites. His lyrics are Jon Foreman deep times 79 plus metaphors. AH!
Taylor Swift - country-pop. I'm sure you've heard of her. I really dislike country, but she meets my satisfaction :)
Anywaaaaay, sorry for talking SO much, as said I tend to do. I have no idea what your religous views are, but if you're looking for and/or are only allowed to listen to Christian music/musicians, I'd suggest the following (haha that sounds stupid, but I'm trying to be grammarically correct...): Jon Foreman, Owl City, and Sufjan Stevens. There're probably more Christians up there, but I don't know who... If you like Sufjan, buy his album Illinoise!. And it's spelled like that. :)
Illinoise--haha! Is he from Illinois? We go to see American Folklore Theatre in Wisconsin each summer, and in one of their funny shows, the DNR chracter called a person from the state south of Wisconsin an illannoyance! It was so funny, I'm still laughing!

Hahahaha, Admin, that's really funny! :) But, hmm, I'm not sure... Let me check. Nope, Sufjan is from Michigan. Which is why he has another album entitled Michigan. :) But, according to Wikipedia, Illinois is a 2005 album with songs referencing places [such as The Sears Tower] and people [A short Reprise for Mary Todd who Went Insane but for Very Good Reasons] related to the state of Illinois. It is his second album based on a U.S. state, part of a planned series of fifty, that began with the 2003 album Michigan. Haha, yeah, I doubt he'll be able to make fifty of these, considering that in the past seven years, he's only made two (and each album has almost 20 songs)... Oh and it says the album is often referred to as Illinoise, because it's real title is Sufjan Stevens invites you to: Come on feel the Illinoise. :)
Thanks for the info, Kenzie. I'm glad he doesn't think of us as Illannoyances!

Of course he's going to meet me, Kenzie. After all, how many guys are there living in Florida? :D
@Leaf: I know exactly what you're talking about, because I have a similar situation. I never listen to pop music, I don't have an iPOD (and don't want one), etc. But I play piano/am in chorus and enjoy a variety of music. I recommend just explaining your situation to anyone who questions it - maybe you can recommend some classical music to them! All in all, just continue enjoying the music you like to listen to, and remember there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
@Kenzie: Why don't you try asking Matt for a ride? You'd solve your problem, and have more time together! If that's not possible, (A) try to get another ride and (B) see if you can get his email or phone number.

Haha, oh, that's a good idea. Of course, it depends on where he lives in Gorham, cuz if lives in "The Village" (downtown), then he's definitely close enough, but if he lives in "White Rock" (way out in the middle of absolute nowhere) then yeah, I'd be wicked far away and that wouldn't work. I'll see. Thanks (:

Thanks guys for all your input!! I will look up all of the people you recommended that I don't know, Kenzie. And for all of you out there who have responded to my previous post, I actually like some of the songs I found. And yes, I think explaining what music I like and why, would be a good idea when people give me funny looks. There's this awesome classical radio station that I listen to every day and wake up to (I have one of those clock radios that can play the radio as an alarm). I know every announcers' voice by heart, I know what they say, who's funny (and there are some hilarious ones) and who's dull. It's pretty great. Unfortunately, I can't play the music game where you put your iPod (or whatever) on shuffle and ask a question and the song that comes up is the answer. I mean if I asked, "What will I do tomorrow?" I might get, "Concerto # [insert concerto number here] in [insert key] for [insert instrument]. I mean, what fun is that?? But thanks guys for boosting my spirits and making me feel better about myself. I've rarely ever met a person my age who actually likes classical music. So thanks to those out there that do for making me feel not so alone. You guys are awesome!!!
