Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Homework.Ble
Homework.
Blech. My homework tonight is particularly awful, so I'm procrastinating and making this thread. So, what kind of homework do you guys get?? Any of it you enjoy? Particularly hate??
I have Algebra (Even though my school is only 6-8th grade we have all the way up to eleventh grade math classes. I get ninth grade. *sarcastic* Wonderful, right?) homework every night, including weekends (Except for some, very rare and wonderful weekends when, for some reason, my teacher doesn't assign any). That's the one I hate. It's almost always pure torture (Though if I really sat down and finished to two problems I have left, it's probably only take me fifteen minutes or so). I also have to read twenty minutes daily for Lit./Comp. homework. That never seems to be a problem with me. ;) I also have to watch an hour of news per week for Social Studies. Oh, and I have weekly science homework which varies depending on what we're learning.
What kind of homework do you get??
*sigh* Now I must finish mine. *sigh* Wait! I have another thread to make! *rambles*

Since I'm homeschooled all of my schoolwork is my homework. But my mama said my sister and I might have to start doing math on the weekends! I don't wanna! Math is my least favorite subject and my worst one too! But my mama also said that if I get all A's in math the rest of the school year that she'll get me the whole set of Harry Potter books! The ones that all come in a case! And she also said that when I'm in high school I can read The Da Vinci Code! Guess what I'm gonna be doing the first day of high school!:)
(My spam boy says ooge, I like that. ooge. ooge.ooge. It sounds funny!)

I hate homework. Tonight we have math and religion. That's not too bad. Math is fun. ;) And anyway, you can always slack off the written homework, if you're smart enough to make excuses or not be there when we check it or whatevah... It's studying I detest the most. We have a science test on Tuesday and a math test on Wednesday... *is not filled with joy*
Oh, Spamboy says Pega. Thas the name of the slave girl in the Nancy Farmer books... *random*

We have one study hall a week, while the seventh and eighth graders get three. And my english and history teachers give us homework with hardbacks, every day. Sigh... And even when we do have composition its just essays about like, our favorite pets and stuff.

*sarcastic* Oooh, fun fun! *regular* Yah, I had a math test today and I have a science test on thursday. Or is it tomorrow? Hey, it is tomorrow! Oh, well. I really like science and my teacher doesn't give very hard tests, so I don't think I should worry to much. *laugh* It was pretty funnny today in science. We have a journal question every day and today it was "Why should you treat the upcoming science test like a vocab test?" Most of the class said they wouldn't 'cause they rarely study for vocab tests. Lol. Our teacher, the awesome Mrs. Larson (She says "lovely" allllll the time so we and my friends always write "Mrs. Larson's Lovely Lecture at the top of our notes." /random/), meant that there was a ton of vocab to the test and we should study it like we would for a vocab test. The test is on waves (not ocean waves. light waves, sound waves, etc.) and the vocab is really weird sounding. Reflection, defraction, rarefraction, compression, trough, crest, wave length, amplitude, wave speed, frequency, etc. Lol. I'll go now. *runs out repeating science-y words* Yah, total science nerd. Lol. :D

I usually have math every day, except when there are tests. There was one today, so I have none.
I don't like math homework. I love math, but, for the homework, we have to show a lot of unnecessary work! I rarely need to show work at all, but my teacher doesn't care, of course, and it takes away my leisure time.
In Rela (Reading, English, and Language Arts—all one long, fun, class), we rarely have homework. Sometimes we finish writing essays or stories (which is fun), or do grammar worksheets (which are boring, but so easy I can do them in 2 seconds, so I hardly pay them any attention). And we're supposed to read a certain amount each day, but I've lost track of how much that is. All I know is that I always at least triple it. I <3 reading...
In choir, we never really have homework, but I often practice outside of school just for the fun of it. And when I was about to audition for a solo (which I received—yay!), I practiced all the time, to get better.
I never really have homework in anything else.
I love tests.
See, at my school, we always spend a ridiculously long amount of time on one subject, even in honors classes. Tests mark the end of that subject; a chance to learn something new instead of doing the same thing over again. And I never need to study, since we spend so much time learning about it in school. When we have map tests (the names, locations, shapes, capitals, and major landforms/bodies of water of certain countries), I have to study for those, but we only have about 7 per year. Otherwise, I always get As on tests without even really trying. I hope that doesn't sound arrogant... But anyway, that's another reason why I love tests. They count for a higher percentage of your grade than other assignments, and they're much easier, because we never get them until I really know the material. Plus, we never have homework in the subject we have the test in on that day.
However, I discovered a disadvantage today.
My social studies teacher made us study in class today, without warning. I'd already studied enough so that I knew the material. Okay, so some people are failing this class. That doesn't mean we should all be punished!

Yeah. Let's see . . . So for my first period I have social studies. I rarely get homework from that, but we do have to study for test and such. (I have to edit my rough draft of a letter to our local news station about Darfur this weekend. A lot of my letter was used in my original post here, but my letter to the news station was a lot less personal and emotional . . .) Then a P.E. I never have homework for that class! Well, except for three times per grading period (six weeks) when I study for the test we have on the sport we've been working on. Then is math. I always have homework, as I said, except for days we have test. We, sadly, are doing OAKs (Oregon Assessment of Knowledge, a.k.a. major test on reading or math or science. Right now it's math of course) so no we didn't have any homework this whole week. Then is science, which is totally easy and my favorite class! (it probably would've been lit./comp., but my teacher for that stinks. My science teacher is soooo awesome and fun!) We have weekly homework, studying, and the occasional worksheet to finish, but that's it. Afterwords is band. That class is awesome! Our director rox! I have to play twenty five minutes a day, six days a week for homework. Then is lit and comp (well, actually I have lunch before them, but that doesn't count. :P) My teacher really stinks and we took almost eighteen weeks to finish this tiny book! (it was Crispin: The Cross of Lead. Not a challenge and pretty dang boring after eighteen weeks!) I'm am always bored and never have anything to do! Sigh. Anywho, I never have homework there because it finish it in all my stinkin' spare time I have while doing nothing!! Grr. Sorry, done complaining. That's it. Bye . . .

Usually I just have math homework. It's fairly easy, and I enjoy it, so I don't complain too much. Yes, I also like taking tests. I think it's fun. Is that weird?
(January 29, 2010 - 7:39 am)
Math! Is Fun!
:D
(January 29, 2010 - 4:33 pm)
Yes! It is!
:D
(January 30, 2010 - 12:08 pm)
No it's not! But stuff like y X y divided by y squared to the second power X y is pretty fine, if it's not too complicated, I can ususally do it in my head.

Comment on the showing-your-work thing:
What your teacher is doing is trying to be nice. Give her credit, 'k? Here's the deal. If you get a math question wrong but your work is right there, the teacher can look at it and say "Oh, all she did was forget to put the negative there. I'll give her partial credit." Even if you don't need it at this point, get in the habit. My brother just started Calculus 1, and one of the first things the other students told him about the teacher was "If you show your work, you get a lot of partial credit even if you miss the problems." My mom was a college math teacher for many moons, and she says just about every teacher will do that. So yeah. And stuff.
Cheers,
lav

Yeah, my math teacher says the same thing. We have to show our work so we can see where we made a mistake and so we can get partial credit. Ha ha. Many moons. Lol. *is still listening to Star Trek gag reel* (You probably won't get that 'till a new thread I just made comes out.) :D
(January 29, 2010 - 10:20 pm)
I wish we got partial credit now... Oh well. It's just that, well, when you have to write down, 43-0=43... Oh well.

@Lavendershy: Many moons? Have you been reading Warriors?
