Chatterbox: Down to Earth

World Affairs thread!

World Affairs thread!

NOTE to Poinsettia from Admins: This is how we've revised your new proposed thread. I hope it will be acceptable to you, but let us know if you'd like any further changes or would like us to delete the whole thread.

I think we should talk about world affairs, and especially talk about what we want to do to make sure we inherit the kind of world we want to have. After all, we kids/teens are the future :)

On this thread, we can talk about the world in general. It doesn't have to be the big issues; what goes on in your local area is just as important, if not more, for example, something like an electric car charging station or a solar panel farm. You can also just say what you want to happen, if you don't want to talk about what's going on right now.

Here are the rules. Please try to follow them, as I want this to be a peaceful and interesting thread where we can disagree and discuss things freely, and I think the rules will help.

1.  Avoid commenting about specific politicians.

2. If you see that people have a different opinion from you, you can explain to them why you think they might be wrong, especially if you think they're basing themselves on misinformation. However, don't go further than that. Meanwhile, if someone questions your opinion, try to keep an open mind and ask yourself whether the question might be valid.

3. If you find yourself getting in what looks like an argument with someone, just state politely that you disagree with the other person, and disengage from the conversation. There's no point in rehashing things and getting worked up.

4. Be polite :)

5. The point of this thread is to learn. I think that if we accept that there's so much for each of us to learn and question, and we can do that learning and questioning much better if we do it together, we can have a really fulfilling and interesting discussion. All of us should keep an open mind and be interested to hear about different points of view, not feel threatened by them.

6. All statements will be taken for what they are: opinions, which are subject to change and are not necessarily true. They will not be considered offensive (unless they are hurtful, but I think the admins will take care of that).

I think that's it!   Use this thread for your opinions on recent events, your hopes for the future, your general thoughts on what the country needs, and whatever else you like! Enjoy :)

I am interested in talking avout this, but i feel terrible if my post gets shot down. So Admins, can you explain what are the limits of what we can talk about?

The limits are the same as those for other Chatterbox threads. Nothing too mature, no politics.

Oh yay, thanks for letting this thread through, @admin! It's totally okay that it was revised, I understand if you've decided that the discussion should be more low-key. I was just wondering if, since the thread's been repurposed, you could remove the rule about not referring to specific people? It might be nice to be able to talk about activists and others who are important in the world scene right now, like Greta Thunberg. If not, though, that's okay :)

I've revised the wording, though it's subject to change based on how the conversation goes. - Admin

Found this thread on the second page. I feel like it didn't get the attention it deserved. Can we try to reboot this?
