hii! i have so many movie recs lol idrk what kind of movies your into, but here's a few of my favs

1. the farewell--stars awkwafina, and is partly in chinese. billi, the main character, and her family, return to china under the guise of a fake wedding to stealthily say goodbye to their beloved matriarch--the only person that doesn't know she only has a few weeks to live. absolutely gorgeous and so well done, one of my favorite movies ever. it's also based on a true story! won a golden globe too

2. the devil wears prada--completely different vibe for sure, light and fun. stars anne hathaway, who plays a recent college grad who wants to pursue her dream of journalism. she lands a job at the prestigious runway magazine, and finds herself as the assistant of the diabolical editor miranda priestly (meryl streep) there's a bit of romance, but it's not really the main point.

3. minari--about a korean-american family who moves to an arkansas farm in pursuit of the american dream. amidst the challenges of this new life, they discover the undeniable resilence of family and what it means to make a home. again, beautiful and made me cry like a million times. it also won an academy award i believe.

4. emma.--based off of jane austen's novel. that's pretty much it. really good though, anya taylor joy was great.

5. titanic--lolz sorry i had to recommend this one its a classic, and leonardo de caprio was so gorge when he was younger omg

anywayyyy thats all bye! lmk if you like them, or if you have any recommendations :))

I also reccomend the Farewell! And more Asian movie recs because >:) (highly recommend all three)

- Ajoomma!! It's pretty funny, about a middle-aged, Korean-drama obsessed Singaporean woman who travels abroad for the first time, taking a solo trip to Korea, and finds more than she bargained for. Also LGBTQ+ :)

Taking a step out of that:

- Le Mis

- Matilda

- I'll come back if I think of more

On a movie-related topic, I think it's crazy and awesome that five of Kate DiCamillo's books got turned into movies!!! Flora and Ulysses, Because of Winn-Dixie, The Magician's Elephant, The Tale of Desperaux, and The Tiger Rising (which is the only movie I haven't watched here, and also the only book I haven't read here, btw it's in my closet rn :P)

and if I can turn around and recommend TV shows, then definitely The Owl House, American Born Chinese, and Anne with an E! Oh, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, because even though I've only watched a few episodes, it's already so much better than the movie(s). Books are better than both though :D

I had to remove two of the movie recomendations, since they were rated R. - Admin

WOOO I LOVE TALKING ABOUT MY FAVORITE MOVIES~

-Confessions of a Shopaholic. It's about Becky Bloomwood, an aspiring fashion journalist who somehow lands a job at a finance magazine. She has to figure out how to navigate that while at the same time falling for her boss, Luke - and trying to keep herself from shopping too much! It's light, funny, and visually appealing, with lush color and vivid backgrounds. I love it, though it does makes mindless shopping seem appealing, which isn't great.

-While You Were Sleeping. A warm, feel-good movie about a lonely young girl who suddenly finds herself swept up in a batty, loving, fun family - but only because they think she's engaged to their son!

-One Man and His Cow. This is about a simple Moroccan man who has a dream: to go to France and participate in the Agricultural Fair with his beloved cow, Jacqueline. One day, it seems as if his dream may come true; he receives an invitation to attend the fair! To the delight of the entire village, he sets off. The only catch is that he must go on foot to Paris, not having the money for transportation. Thus begins a journey of discovery, adventures, and self-redemption. Along the way he makes unlikely new friends, from his scruffy, garrulous, surprisingly loyal brother-in-law, to an aristocrat; he reconciles with his wife; and he enjoys life with shining good-humor. But things start going wrong, and he realizes he may not reach Paris in time for the fair... unless everyone pitches in to get him to Paris on time... This is one of my absolute favorite movies ever. It's really original - you can't tell what's going to happen, but at the same time it's comforting and positive. It has beautiful landscapes, lovely houses, moments of humor, fresh and natural dialogue, touching scenes, and well-drawn, genuine characters whom you root for all the way. It's perfect.

-My Father's Glory. This one's about a young French boy and his relationship with his father. It doesn't really have a plot, though. It's like accompanying the family as they welcome new members (from a baby, to a new uncle), move to a new home, and go on vacation to the stunning south of France. You see and share all the beautiful moments of their lives - to quote my solo write, "the days are strung together like beads on a string". It's the perfect movie for anyone.

-Small-Time Crooks. This is a Woody Allen movie. It's funny, sardonic, and unexpected, concerning a couple who try to rob a bank and fail - but it affects them in ways they could never have imagined.

-Chapulin Colorado episodes aren't movies, they're a TV series, but they're super funny. The Chapulin Colorado is a supposed superhero who appears at just the right moment to help ordinary people out of their predicaments - but pretty soon there's just more chaos, with mix-ups galore - and even, in one episode, Romeo trying to serenade Juliet with the help of his greatest enemy! There's also a parody of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The episodes make fun of the idea of an invincible superhero, and some of them are a little silly, but a lot of them are hilarious.

-All Creatures Great and Small is my favorite TV series ever! It's about a young vet in Yorkshire and an eccentric but warm-hearted cast of characters, from bossy Siegfried to charming/annoying Tristan. Not to mention bunnies, dogs, and horses. The way the characters interact, with banter mixed with supportiveness, is warm and comforting. The landscapes and houses are also lovely. Each episode is original and fresh and enjoyable.

-La sonrisa de Ronaldo is my favorite documentary. It's about the life of soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, but it's very artistic and poetic - I don't think I've ever seen a more poetic documentary. Even if you're not interested in Ronaldo as such (though he did have an interesting life), it's a really nice thing to watch because it's so peaceful; just people talking and being happy, and nice music in the background, and scenes of fountains in the sunlight and police horses in Madrid and seagulls in Lisbon. Everyone in it seems so happy and carefree, and the documentary just seems like happiness distilled into a film. And the opening scene is beautiful. There's this lovely classical music playing, and there are some soccer scenes and suddenly you can see how soccer is like dancing, requiring grace and precision.  Anyway, it's really enjoyable, and it's also nice and short, so you don't have to spend ages watching it.

I'll be back later because I still haven't exhausted my stock of fun things to watch :)

MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON

sorry i just think this movie should be more popular! it's a cute, feel-good movie, but it has such a genuine deep emotional core and also touches on stuff about fame, online culture, and relationships! it's kinda weird (it's a documentary-style thing about a stop-motion animated seashell living in an airbnb) but i'd recommend it to anyone tbh.

Song of the Sea & Wolfwalkers- my favorite animated movies, hands down. both by the same studio and both absolutely gorgeous art style, and inspired by celtic myths. so so beautiful and magical. they make me feel something deep in my soul. and Running With the Wolves by AURORA is in Wolfwalkers! there's also Secret of the Kells by the same studio, which is just as suberb art-wise, but the plot/characters aren't as good imo.

these next ones idk whether to mention b/c of CB appropriateness, so admin you can take them out if you want.

The Swimmers- really powerful true story, it's got some heavy stuff in it though.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar- HILARIOUS, very campy. my mom and i's favorite comedy.

okay bye :D

Yes yes yes I agree with you about Song of the Sea! I haven't watched Secret of the Kells, but I did watch another one from the studio that was PG-13 (but idk if PG-13 movies can be mentioned on CB, so I'm not sure if I can say the title)
