Gardening and Tea

Gardening and Tea Thread

This is a thread about gardening and tea. Though these things go together for me (I grow a lot of the herbs and flowers I use for herbal tea) they don't have to for you.

So post gardening advice, updates on what's happening, and plants you want to grow. or post about your favorite teas or blend recipes advice on steeping them. anything you want really!

I'll start: look into growing plants native to your area! Even if you have never grown anything before, there's probably a low maintnence plant that can give food and shelter to local pollinators and animals. Most famous plants are non-native, and while they're a good start, native pollinators won't always be able to use them. Native pollinators are really important.

also, whether you garden or not, look into composting! food waste is a huge producer of methane, which is more potent than carbon dioxide, when it's in landfills. But in a compost pile, there's enough oxygen so it doesn't. and even if you don't garden yourself, if you know anyone who gardens, they'll almost certainly be glad to take your compost. and you could always get a pot and put something in it...

@pangolin, i'll post your response when this goes up.

@all, enjoy!

@Blackfooted Bobcat, I actually didn't know that was a Hawaiian thing, which is pretty cool!! My whole family thought it was Chinese lol (I guess the salty plum is Chinese and Hawaiians made it into powder and now the Chinese eat it like that too??). But yeah my family LOVES that once we went to this Chinese market and bought a whole big bag of just the thing then went back home and sprinkled it on watermelon and other stuff... and in Tai Wan we went to the night market and they were selling li hing mui powder THERE too so ofc we bought it (and put it on some perfectly good Taiwanese apples!! D:)...

@Bobcat and Poinsettia, I love your descriptions of Hawaii and Mexico!! And @Poinsettia, we have a Jacaranda out by our house and it has the MOST BEAUTIFUL purple flowers and we used to have a rope attached to it so we could swing but the branch got knocked off...

anyways, apple blossoms are out! :D

There are a lot of Chinese people in Hawai'i so my guess is that they brought it and then Hawaiians were like "this is good, let's make it into a big thing" :D

Whoops I meant tea in Taiwan. (Like the typical oolong and stuff but it tastes better in Taiwan somehow, but like the oriental beauty tea there is sooo good! And the mountain tea!)

the chamomile is blooming!

oh wow! there used to be chamomile in my garden, but no more >:( on the bright side, the lemon balm and lemon grass are really happy, and we planted potatoes! they're doing quite well. we have a whole small patch of them. and we planted some flowers! we have a large patch of this wildflower that attempts to take over the garden at intervals (everything in the backyard attempts to take over now and then lol) and along the edge of it, we have some bright red and orange and yellow flowers.

right now it's raining and the birds are singing outside and it's early morning... it feels very aesthetic but also kind of sad. like a poem.

we planted cucumbers and beanpole and they're doing really well! Also I forgot to check on the apples to make sure birds weren't eating them. As in this whole summer forgot. I should do that today... and check on everything else too... o_O
