Chatterbox: Down to Earth
@Lupine Hi!
@Lupine
Hi! We were paired together on Periwinkle's MaF thread :) I decided to make the thread in DtE so you would have more chance of seeing it? I hope that's okay :)
Anyway (gosh I'm bad at starting things like this lol) I guess I'll start with some questions? Are you reading anything interesting at the moment? I'm reading Agatha Christie's autobiography and 100% enjoying it~ it's just so entertaining and descriptive and Victorian. Apparently she traveled through the Middle East several times and it all sounds amazing. What kinds of places do you want to travel to?
I'm really excited to get to know you better! :)

Yeah, I'm so happy that the CB is back! It's a generally amazing place :) By the way, have you ever noticed how chat threads kind of have their own atmosphere? They feel a little like small cozy rooms with two people curled up by a fireside, talking... even though they're just threads, they give me that vibe.
Oh yeah, I've heard of modern takes on Anne of Green Gables (I think) and I've also heard of a graphic novel retelling of Little Women. I kind of wonder why it doesn't count as plagiarism to be rewriting other authors' stories... But it's still a cool idea :)
My music taste includes pretty much everything, I think - well, almost. Probably my favorite genres are country, folk (by which I basically mean Peter Paul and Mary songs XD), and traditional music from other areas like the Middle East and Ireland - songs from those genres sound very natural and melodious, I think. I used to listen just to those three genres, but in the past couple of years I've been exploring more and I've tried indie and '80s-2000s rock. Have you heard "I Give You the Morning" by Buffalo Rose? It's one of my favorite indie songs. I also sometimes like rock and pop music from other cultures - it's funny how different pop music can be outside the United States. I tend to think of it as just Taylor Swift and Beyonce and so on, but there's really a lot of variety.
Good luck with translating for your family! Going to Japan sounds really exciting; I hope you have a great time there :)
Do you have any pet peeves?

hi! i'll reply tomorrow because I have to go right now but I just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about this!

I love the idea of chat threads having their own atmosphere...I have kind of realized that subconsciously, but I never put it into words before!
I've read the graphic novel version of Little Women, and it's really good. I think that it doesn't count as plagiarism for these books because they're so old that the copyright has expired. Also, most people know the stories or have at least heard of them, so it's not like the new author is trying to claim that the characters are their own. The same thing goes for art--my art teacher explained this to us, but at some point a work of art (such as the Mona Lisa) becomes so famous that you can't really plagiarize it as long as you make it clear that you're not claiming to be Da Vinci or whoever.
I love Irish music! My brother and I have been taking Irish/Scottish fiddle lessons for a few years, and it's really fun. We mostly play cheerful jigs and things like that, but my favorites are the melodramatic waltzes.
I listened to "I Give You the Morning," and I love the voice of the singer!
One of my pet peeves is the cabinets in my kitchen. They aren't built very well and they don't close properly, so they're often left swinging wide open. I get the thought that someone is going to hit their head on it so I spend a lot of time trying to slam them closed. xD

Hiiii! I profoundly apologize for taking so long. I didn't forget about this thread, I just somehow never managed to write a reply. I'm really sorry and I genuinely hope we can go on chatting.
Ah yes, that makes sense. I can see how if something's old and famous, then reinterpreting it wouldn't be plagiarism. I suppose it's like the Greek myths, they're sort of common property :)
Ooh, fiddle lessons sound great! It must be fun to be able to make your own dance music. I can only play the piano and the ukulele, but it's very satisfying whenever I sit down and actually play a piece of music. I've been getting back into piano lately - just practicing the pieces I used to know - and even though it's been several years since I played them, it comes back to me pretty easily! It's very satisfying :)
Yes, I agree that the singer has a lovely voice! I feel like while there's a lot of great music out there, it's somewhat rare to find a singer who has a really unique voice, as opposed to just a tolerably nice voice. I really like Rosanne Cash and Alison Krauss, and Aventura, as regards voice quality.
Oh, that does sound annoying :/
So anyway, what've you been up to lately? Anything interesting going on?

I'm so sorry for ghosting you for 2.5 months! I was busy during the end of school and then when I realized how long I'd been gone and I imagined how much I had missed I felt too overwhelmed to appear...but now it is summer so I can hopefully be more active. Sorry again T_T
I didn't know you played ukulele! That's cool! I "play" the ukulele but truly I am bad at it and know like 5 chords ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I love how the instrument sounds, though. And traditional Hawaiian music is one of my favorite genres, though I don't listen to it enough.
This past week I've been at 2-week creative writing camp. I've never been away from home alone for that long before so I was pretty nervous, but it's been fun! Predictably, there are a lot of other kids here who I have a lot in common with. Basically, people perfect for the CB. OMG, I wonder if any of these kids are actually CBers...I must find out. That would be crazy.
What's your favorite Greek myth?
