yessss we need this thread

I've got good news about climate affairs, which I've been wanting to share with everyone for a while, so here goes! (All of this comes from the Guardian newspaper, in case anyone's interested in looking it up.)

-Six Portuguese young people have brought 32 European countries to court over the countries' lack of suitable climate action! (Specifically, the European court of human rights.) They want the judges to issue a ruling that will force the countries to just go ahead and cut their emissions once and for all. That means every single country in the EU - plus some that aren't, like Turkey and Switzerland - is getting hauled into court!! Many of these governments have stated that there's no cause for anyone to be concerned about climate change, which is rather odd given that their countries have just experienced a whole summer of catastrophic floods and fires, but maybe the judges of the court will think otherwise. The trial's coming up in just a few days.

-On Sunday there was a large climate march in NYC! I think this shows that Americans are finally getting really concerned.

-A lot of people are carrying out civil disobedience in order to demand climate action, and they're even getting arrested for it. For instance, a few days ago a group of people blockaded the entrances to the Federal Reserve Bank in NYC - I wish I could've been there, and I completely support them.

-Biden has used his executive power to create a Ciimate Corps! It's supposed to create new jobs and help develop a green economy. I don't think it's a very strong step - we need so much more at this point, namely, AN END TO COAL AND OIL NOW - but still, it's a step in the right direction.

It's so nice to have some good news about global warming for a change... and it really looks like people are finally banding together to do something. Here's hoping they all succeed :)

WOOHOO FOR ALL THAT GREAT NEWS!!! :DDD

but, I have some bad news too, sorry :(

bc of climate change, things like the Colorado River and Lake Mead and Lake Powell are running low. Why is this a problem? Because many major cities and states and don't forget Native American tribes! depend on these things for water. I have a LOT more information but I'll post it later. For now, though, LET'S CELEBRATE!!!
