the fountain? no, that's not right. you've never seen this fountain in your life. it's pretty. it looks like it's made of gold, and the water is so, so blue.
you become aware of the fact that you cannot seem to remember how you got to this fountain, or this town. you can remember very little, in fact, just some simple things about yourself. you reach into the depths of your mind, knowing this is probably going to cause a gl-gl-gl-glitch-

your name is Project 1014-9. if anyone asks you your name, however, you are supposed to say that it is Lola. 1014. Lola.
Lola is a pretty word, you decide. it is to your understanding that it's usually used as a girls name. does that make you a girl? you do not know.
you remember how many years you have been alive. how old you are? yes. though mostly they say "this project has been running for..." 15 years. you have been running for 15 years. you are 15 years old.
you reach up to your neck and feel a small chip in it. you know there are words on this chip. the words say your name, and the name of your Home.
in your other hand, you hold an origami butterfly. you know it is connected to the person you're here for, but you are not sure how.
you look down and see you are wearing a purple t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. the sneakers feel strange on your feet, which are used to being bare. the jeans are a size too small. and you do not like purple.
your hair is long and straight. it is red. that is all you know about your appearance. if you wish to learn more, look for a mirror.

you are famished, and know there is money in your pocket. you walk into a cafe near the fountain and order something called pan-cakes. you hope they taste good.
while you are sitting at a table and waiting for your food, someone walks in. a beautiful girl. she is about your age, with long brown hair in a braid and brown eyes. she wears a white sundress and sandals. she orders her food and sits at a table across yours. she is carrying a purse, from which she pulls small, square sheets of paper with pretty patterns on them, and begins folding on of them until it suddenly resembles a stag. origami. you look down at the butterfly in your hand. something clicks in your brain. this girl's name is Olive Francis, though soon it will become 1015-6, if you do your job right. and you know that you have to do your job right.

"yes!" you say, and Annie smiles. "okay. in that case, let's look for some good shorts for you to wear, and some t-shirts. maybe a zip-up hoodie, if it's cold. and you can use my old pair of cleats - I think we're about the same size. you'll love soccer, I'm sure you will." she starts looking through the clothes quicker now. she holds up a pair of blue shorts. "try these, and…" she searches a little more and eventually pulls out a light green hoodie. "this." you take the clothes and head back to the changing room. what do you try on first?

you try on both at once and are pleased to see both fit. you change back and head back to Annie to tell her.
"awesome!" says Annie. Nico walks over to you two.
"we're getting ready to head out," he says. "ready to go?"
you both nod and head towards the counter to pay.
everyone else pays first - you all found at least one thing. however, when it's time for you to pay, you realize you don't actually have all that much money - definitely not enough for this much clothing. what are you going to do?
Olive and the rest of the group all seem to notice the panic in your eyes at once and exchange a glance. Nico pulls out his wallet, and everyone else follows suit, each pitching in a few dollars until there's enough to buy all the clothes.
you feel warm again. part of you wants to run and hide, but the other part wants to hug them. Reese puts all the clothes in a bag and hands them to you, and Olive puts an arm around your shoulder and leads you and the group out of the store.
you breathe in fresh air. it's no longer raining.
nobody says anything, but Olive shifts her position so she's holding your hand and gives it a light squeeze.
"let's go get lunch," she says. she looks at you for a second, then brings her gaze back to the group. "my treat."

you're sitting at a table in a restaurant called Elle's Diner. the menu has many options on it, and you are not sure where to start.
"what's yummy?"
"everything's yummy, sweetie," the waitress says. she has a Southern accent. "but if you ask me, the best thing off our menu is the mac and cheese, homemade every morning by Gina over in the kitchen!"
hmm.
"everything off that section of the menu comes with free dessert, too."
oooh.
"okay, I'll have mac and cheese," you decide.
"wonderful!" the waitress finishes everyone else's orders and leaves.
Nico and Felix get bored quickly. Felix starts a game of tic-tac-toe with Annie. what do you do? who do you talk to?

Hold it. Isn't the main character an AI robot or something? So how would they have the same bodily functions, including eating and digesting, as a normal human, unless the scientists created them unethically?
