MATH THREAD!

MATH THREAD!

Here is a thread to talk about MATH! Sorry, we were just learning factorials.

So you can talk about why you like/dislike math, your favorite numbers, your favorite parts of math, what your doing in math class, what you struggle with and ecxel at, WHATEVER!

In math class we are doing a unit on Spot It! So that's fun.

I'm not sure if I dislike all math, but I do NOT like my algebra class this year, and now I'm superrr behind in it and won't finish the book until July 12 :/ next year, though, I'm taking geometry and I'm more interested in that.

I'm actually in the highest math class in the seventh grade, which is really weird, because I don't like math.

Well, sometimes I kind of like it, but most of the time it's just boring and stressful and seems pretty pointless.

I mean, why would you ever need to know how to calculate the surface area of a triangular prism? Or when would you ever need to know what "x" is in the equation 24^2x+32/7-1/2x^3???

I know, I know. It will come in handy one day (somehow?!?!). But when you're sitting in math class learning about it, it sure doesn't feel like it (unless you want to be a mathematician, that is, when you grow up)!!!!!

And @Feline Fantasy, what do you do in the game spot it? Sounds fun!

So funny story, I never actually took geometry.

Okay so I went to a montesorri school where it wasn't really a class it was just here is what we are learning. And when I was in 8th grade, my teacher basically taught us parts of geometry but never really taught it to us. Then COVID hit and we went online. MY math teacher was teaching us some sort of Algebra1/Algebra2 mixture along with geometry and it was an interesting time to say the least.

Flash forward to last summer, I had to take a placement test for high school. My old school only went to 8th grade. I knew one of the math teachers at the new school and after he graded the test he told me that I could go into Algebra 2 because I knew the material for Geometry.

Flash forward to now. Tomorrow I have my Honors Algebra 2 final, I have never really taken Geometry and next year will be really hard for me because pre calculus has to do with geometry.

All in all, I do like math.

I'm good at math and I like some math, mostly not-school math.

Ever since I was little, I've kinda always had this soundtrack, almost, playing in the back of my head, where I work with numbers? I know some people like primes. I'm the opposite, I like numbers with lots of factors, particularly multiples of 2, 3, and 5. AnYwAyS I once told my dad that I had figured out that every perfect square (other than possibly 1) who's square root wasn't a multiple of 2 or 3 was one more than a multipe of 24, and he helped me prove it, so then he got me a number theory book.

@Clementine, there are many variations of Spot It! But basically it's a card game with a deck of cards which all have various symbols on them. Any pair pf cards has one symbol that they share. You try to earn the cards by finding those symbols. My favorite variation is where you take two cards off of a face down deck and whoever calls out the matching symbol first gets them. The magic (aka math) of it is that each pair, like I said earlier, has exactly one matching symbol.

I'm learning a lot more in this unit than I usually do, but it's still going slowly for me, een though I'm in the upper group.

I'm taking my geometry exam tomorrow! I'm a tiny bit nervous, but I think that I'll do fine. I'm supposed to be studying right now

I mostly like math, I took algebra last year and thought that it was more fun than geometry, but geometry is fun too.

I love how with math, everything just fits together perfectly and there are so many cool patterns. It's also cool how people keep discovering new things about math kind of like with science. And it's awesome how math wasn't made by people, like history, but it just is there, like it's just the rules of the universe. And it can be used to explain so many things like physics.

I think that how amazing and complex math is also shows how powerful God is because He created all of it.

I really, really, REALLy dislike math. A lot. But somehow I'm in the highest math class there is?? Like, when will I EVER need to know how to find the missing side of a triangle using trig? NEVER. Oh, well, the school year's almost over, I think I can make it :P

I hate math... Long division and two digit multiplication is fun though! Decimals and fractions are my worst nightmare.

I have my Algebra 1 final today, I studied so much and I feel confident about it but I'm still really nervous

Math for me is...Eh. I do pretty well at it, but I don't nessacarily enjoy it. My school just has one big math class per grade until 8th grade though, so, the subject we are learning about usually just clicks with me and it takes my class ages to figure it out, most of the time. Oh, but I do enjoy encouraging other people to do math. One of my friends hates math, and I find myself encouraging him to do math in very strange ways. In case your interested, this is what happened when we were working on histograms:

A (my friend I mentioned above), says he hates intervals.

I tell him to imagine using tally marks to take revenge on the intervals (I find taking revenge on math is a good way to feel in control of it, so I gave him this idea)

A says that deadly math toxins are released when intervals die, and it makes intervals turn into zombie intervals. Then he says that math toxins have already been released.

I ask if he has any interval zombies yet.

A says no. He claims to have defeated them.

And then, I find out that the intervals are dead. The end.

Yeah, my math class is kinda strange. Oh, and my school is doing our end of year math test next week and it is 66 problems long. That is way to long! Bleh.

I just finished my geometry exam! I'm glad it's done and it wasn't too hard so that's good. I'm looking forward to Algebra Two next year.

I hope your final goes good Wooly!

Thank you Barnswallow! it actually went amazing, I'm going to be in Geometry next year which I'm excited about because its just going to be me and like 6 other people.

UGGGHH, Math is the WORST SUBJECT IN THE HISTORY OF SCHOOL!!!!

WHY COULDN'T THE STINKIN' GREEK MATHMETITIANS DECIDE THAT WE HAD TO FIND THE AREA OF A CIRCLE BY DOIN' THE SAME NUMBER TIMES ITSELF, TIMES 3 AND NOT 3.14?!?!?!?!?

THAT MAKES IT SO STINKIN' HARD!!!!!!!

Yeah, I REALLY don't like math. At ALL.

Well, my math teacher can't give a test, because of the way our schedue works; some kids are on campus some days and other days they're virtual, so if he gives a test, it wouldn't be fair to the kids who are on campus, because the kids who are virtual have more "resources" (aka they can cheat).

So, instead, he just gave this super big "Spring Final Review" that has, like, over 100 problems!! And it's due in six days!!!!!! And it's on TOP of our day-to-day math homework, which is also always super long!!!

Also, it's really hard because there are a lot of concepts in it that I don't remember, because I learned them months/years ago. So half the questions I barely even know how to do.

Wish me luck!!! I literally did math homework for three hours straight this morning. And I barely made a dent!
