Got the COVID
Got the COVID vaccine!
I just got my first shot!! Has anyone else gotten the vaccine, or is planning on it? It only just got approved for 12-15 year olds (the pfizer one).
My arm is not that sore, but who knows, maybe it will get more sore soon...
It feels good to feel like there might be an end to this whole mask, six-feet-apart and quarantine thing!!!!

Same. It's not the immediate effects that worry me, it's the long term ones that might not appear for years. There are so many drug recalls all the time on stuff that was FDA approved and passed all its initial clinical trials, and then whoops turned out they missed something latent and long term. Even years until the problem presents itself is not unheard of. The advertisements for the drug-related class action lawsuits are ubiquitous, I'm sure you've heard them ("If you or a loved one suffered complications from X treatment, you may be entitled to compensation!").
Look up "drug related class action lawsuits" (with a parent's permission if you need it), for how many times trials are wrong every year.
Except the companies this time can't even be sued for anything, which means their only motive is profit like with any other company.
For some people, like with any experimental drug, the potential benefits outweigh the risks. I'm really glad it's available. However, it's dangerous to assume it's the right choice for everyone, or assume that because there are no effects within the first couple of months that there never will be. It's happened before with drugs that had much longer trial periods.
One of my relatives is a successful pathologist, and he recommends strongly against it until it's been out a few more years. He hasn't been wrong yet.
If you're young and healthy, the biggest common factor for serious side effects from the virus is lack of Vitamin D. Take some supplements and get some sun.

I disagree. I think it’s better to get the vaccine—which is being recommended by not just the CDC, but also the World Health Organization. Vaccines aren't just "drugs"—that's misleading. Drug recalls are usually for drugs that address a certain health problem, like high blood pressure or cancer. Vaccine recalls are actually super rare, and most of them are for things like the glass containers they’re in being too thin and breakable, or being mislabeled. Go to the CDC’s website and look up vaccine recalls, you’ll see what I mean. The vaccine (I mean Moderna and Pfizer specifically) is safe. My best friend’s mom is an ER doctor, and she got her as soon as she could. So did all of the people she works with.
It’s also *NOT* true that the companies can’t be sued this time. They’re actually more at risk of being sued because so many people are getting the vaccine, which means they’re more likely to pull the medicine if people get sick. When the Johnson and Johnson vaccine made just ten or so people sick (out of thousands and thousands) they shut it down immediately to investigate why.
Most importantly, medicine can have long-term, effects, yes. But so can Covid. My cousin has been suffering terribly since her infection months ago. She used to be one of the most active people I know. Now she gets out of breath just going to the bathroom. Covid has long-term effects that we’re only now beginning to find out about. It’s way more important to vaccinate yourself with medicine that’s been rigorously tested and is being closely watched by the FDA, CDC, WHO, and anyone else you can think of, then to risk getting a serious infection from a virus that has already killed thousands of people and has *demonstrable* long-term effects in some people.

The vaccine is incredibly beneficial to our society but at the same time I do know how some people might have drastic responses to the vaccine. still, this vaccine has been carefully tested and looked over many times and it has actually been in the works longer than we know.
The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are mRNA vaccines which have already been worked on and tested before COVID was even a thing. It is true that some people might have a severe reaction to the vaccine and the CDC does reccomend that people should not get the vaccine if they are allergic to any of the ingredients in the vaccine or have had a severe reaction to the first dose of the vaccine.
Nyx I completley respect your decision to not get the vaccine and every induvidual can make that choice for themselves; however, I have not known anyone who had a severe reaction to either doses of the vaccine. Both of my grandparents have gotten the vaccine as well and they are totally fine.
Also the vaccines are not drugs and out technology is 10 times more advanced than when the FDA was testing all of those drugs that you see on the commercials.
All in all I do believe that it is better to get the vaccine. It will help the entire world recover and help us get back to "normal" and the reason that I put that in quotations is that now we will all have a new mindset of how we go about our daily lives and the term normal isn't exactly a good way to describe everything this year. This year has been like no other and we have faced some challenges but the vaccine is part of the solution.

^^^^^I also agree- there might be long term risks for the vaccine, but there are long and short term risks for COVID, which we KNOW are terrible and even deadly, rather than the vaccine side effects which are mostly theoretic. My whole family has gotten vaccinated, and we're fine!

Got mine a couple months ago, and didn't have any reaction at all to either shot--I was really expecting that there'd be something, but apparently not! My twin was the same, although my mom got some mild side effects. (All three of us got our vaccines at the same time.)

I got my shot too! The first one was not so bad with a mild sore arm, but the second one I got a fever for half a day.
By the way, did anyone get there shot on there right arm even though they are right handed(or the other way around)?Just wondering. I didn't.
I did. I'm right handed and I got my shots in my right arm, because I like to sleep on my left side and I didn't want to sleep on a sore arm. My arm only hurt if I bumped it or put pressure on it.

@Sparkly Cat, I got mine on my left arm, but I'm right handed. When they asked me which arm I just chose one because I wasn't sure which to do!
But @admin that was a good idea because I also like to sleep on my left side and it was very uncomfortable!!
(June 30, 2021 - 6:01 pm)
@admins that's a really interesting reason why you got your shot on the same side as your dominant arm! I sleep facing upwards so it's not a problem for me.
<nydri> New York is dry? Oh no!
