Today in Chemistry
Today in Chemistry we made ice cream. It was scrumptious, but rather crumbly and a wee bit salty I must say. Mostly because someone got salt on the plastic spoons we were eating with.
Later in the year I believe we'll be making root beer as well.

Hey, no fair! All we've gotten to do is get pennies stuck in graduated cylinders while we were trying to figure out their volume for use in our density calculations. And our triple beam balance is possessed. It's creepy. Lucky you with actually cool labs... Then again, last week we got to play with hydrochloric acid and I dyed my thumb blue by accident, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. :D

Pretty much what I've done so far is talk about water...

Ha ha, yah, take it from someone who isn't going to be in a lab until collage!!!!! (if I do chem, but I want to, so hopefully... :) )

We turned pennies silver by dropping them in zinc oxide and then gold by heating them up, too. And then we played with antifreeze, and corn syrup.
On the other hand, the entire year's Chem budget is a grand total of... 250$. For the year. *rolls eyes*

Ooh, sounds like fun!! My brother once made those in Excel... :)

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sounds yummyyy.... hehe. In science, we're learning about the earth and stuff like that. *snorts* Your class sounds like much more fun! Last year we did cells...too MUCH about cells... every new unit I was hoping he wouldn't say the word cells, but when he got up there and started talking it went.. "And then the cell comes..." and I almost screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" but yay for me, no more cells!!!!! (I'm tired of cells...)

The most exciting thing in science we've done this year is make "Gak"... We now have to observe it for a week, seeing how it reacts to vinegar or light exposure and stuff. Lots'n'lotsa fun. /sarcasm Maybe I should suggest *we* make ice cream. Or even dye our thumbs blue, Emily. ;)
And today our English class was physically painful. *shudders* I hope that when I'm in highschool there'll be better teachers than middle school...

Ok, so after complaining we made ice cream today during a lab at co-op. How did you guys do it? We took the milk/cream/sugar/vanilla mixture, put it in a bowl, poured on liquid nitrogen (WAY COOL!!!!) and stirred. Best I've ever had, seriously. No salt cause we were using liquid nitrogen. It was the awesomest lab I've ever done. All 'cause our teacher decided to forget about measuring the weight of beans. (Go Mr. Blondfield!)

Liquid nitrogen would've been cool, but (as I said), 250$ budget for the year, so we went with the ice-and-rock-salt route.
Anyways, our recipe was Half&Half + sugar + vanilla in a plastic bag, which was then sealed and placed in a bigger plastic bag half filled with ice and rock salt. Then we had to shake it for about twenty minutes.

All we do in science this year seems to be learning how to measure things and practicing it *rolls eyes*. Most of it is things I learned in 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, or even 1st grade!
Although I'm allergic to ice cream, so there wouldn't be much point in my suggesting making it... *sigh* I just wish we could do something fun! I normally love science, but...

Ooh, cool! I'll ask my mom if we can make ice cream that way. I think she'll say yes; she likes ice cream.
