I am going

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I am going

I am going to a baseball game tomorrow.  Though I don't really understand baseball, after trying to learn what everything is... I won the tickets by a summer reading program, and I also got tickets last year.  I don't really enjoy watching baseball, seeing as I don't undersand it.  But what else could I do?  My friend is going to the baseball game with me; his dad is going to surprise him in school and pick him up to bring him to the game.  So he's going to pick Mason up from school, me up from home, and my dad from work and then we are all going to go to a baseball game that looks just like  a bunch of people running around in circles, in my opinion.  The bad thing about it is that our seats aren't next to each other, and Mason and his dad have to sit away from me and my dad.  The game is the Cardinals against another team, don't know what.  So, yeah, I was just telling you this because I don't know why...

Meadow, why don't you ask your father to explain the general idea and rules of baseball to you? You should enjoy it more if you understand what's going on. And it should be fun to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" with all those people!

I sympathise, Meadow, I don't really like or understand baseball. About all I know is, "three strikes and you're out" and something about home runs being when they run across all three bases. I'm not big on sports.

That stinks. Have you ever played kickball? It's exactly like that except with a bat.... I kind of like watching baseball actually.

I completely understand you, Meadow. Sports? Not so much... I'm going to a (local) football game on Friday with my brother and his friend and I don't completely understand it, either. I'm mainly just going to talk to some of my friends that I haven't seen in a while. *shrug* But anyway, just try to make the best out of it. It won't last forever (even if it feels like it...). ;)

Yeah, I don't really get anything except for the basics. I went to a baseball game though, and it was fun even when I didn't get it! I know baseball rules MUCH better then I know football rules though! I don't get football at all. Not even the basics. I don't see how it's so much fun to watch people tackle each other. Anybody else?

Julia, I went to my high school football games to see my friends and hear the band for four years and never understood a thing about the game. I just cheered when our cheerleaders did. I could never even find the football until the play was over. Then when I was in college, a friend explained it to me: One team gets 4 chances to advance the ball 10 yards down the field toward their goal. If they make the 10 yards, they get to keep the ball and try for 10 more yards. If they don't make the 10 yards, then the other team gets the ball to try to make 10 yards in 4 tries toward their goal at the opposite end of the field. Does that help any?

Baseball is so easy to understand.  Maybe that's cuz I played softball before... I understand all the common sports, football, soccer, baseball, basketball... that's becuz I've played all of them besides football and my dad is a huge football fan, so it's hard for me NOT to understand.  But, yes, football would definitely be the most confusing.  There are so many rules!

I've played softball!  Though people just told me to hit the ball, drop the bat, and run to the other base until someone told me to stop running.  My dad's a big football fan, too!  Though I forget the rules right after he tells me.

It was the St. louis Cardinals agianst the Florida somethings...  I *think*  I can kind of understand baseball!  I leaned a new word!  Inning!  But now I forgot what it is... I think after a team has a turn at batting or something.  having three dofferent people explain baseball to you kind of helps a lot.  At the end I even knew who won!  The Florida somethings.  Mason, Colby (Masons dad), and my Dad wanted the Cardinals to win, but I was happy because I actually knew who won in the end!

Hahahaha, I was at the baseball game on my birthday, and I was just about to ask my mom what quarter it was, when this tiny, little kid (he was probably three) in front of us said, "Hey, Dad, it's the third inning, right??".  Shows how much I know about baseball...  But basketball's a whole different matter!!!  I LOVE basketball!!!!  I only really started watching it a year or two ago, but I know all the rules and EVERYTHING about it!! :D:D:D Let's see, I've been to three pro games (Magic vs. Idk who (we won!), Magic vs. Celtics (we lost...), and Magic vs. Cavs ((WOOHOO we won!!! SUCH a close game!!! And because we won, the Cavs were out for the season, and we got to go to the final playoff against the Kobes (((you may know them as the Lakers, but the only person on that team that anybuggy talks about is Kobe Bryant, so we call them the Kobes.))) )) ), and so far, no other types; oh, wait, I went to my friend's 5th grade game once. :) And this fall, Portland (ME) is getting a basketball team!!  I mean, they're not professionals, but they're like the farmteam or whatever.  Of course, I'm not gonna support them or anything, because they're the farmteam of the Celtics (grr...), and the Bobcats (I don't have anything wrong with them, though!). :) I just hope that lots of Mainahs' will go see the games, and that they'll be fun!  Oh, and they're called the Maine Red Claws! :D

I don't really understand baseball completely either.

I am new here and I don't get cricket but my sister, Lauren M., does.  I want to find a way to fit in.....

Oho! Enjoy yourself, Meadow, tricky as that may seem... ;) I mean, the great American pastime!

No, I really don't get it either. And thanks to smeyer I have trouble thinking "baseball" without thinking "*sparklesparklesparkle*." o.O

@ Kylie: Well, I understand your aspirations, I s'pose, but purely out of interest... what *is* so appealing about "fitting in"? I really don't ask to be rude, I've just... never really understood the concept, I suppose, and I'm curious...

I like food!  But all I got was some weird sweet popcorn stuff, Mason got pink lemonade and *yellow* popcorn.  And then we got cotton candy, which was pink and it was also a giant bag.  I think I'm allergic to cotton candy because my tongue gets all slimy after I eat it.  Mason ate most of it, he also made a beard out of cotton candy... a pink one, then there was a lot of pink goo on his face.

I wanted nachos, but Mason wanted peanuts, and the nachos had jalepeno's on them, I should have told mason, he would of said "nachos!  I want nachos."  But we didn't get either.  Colby also got a pretzel, I got a bite of it, that was my favorite thing, apart from the water.
