Hannukah Poll!
Hannukah Poll!
The other day, a friend asked me how to spell Hanukkah. I said there’s no right way, since it’s a Hebrew word, and everyone spells it differently. But then I got to thinking. How do other people spell Chanukah? Is there a trend by, like, age or location or Jewish-ness?
So I’m asking for as many people as possible to tell me how you spell Chanuka. Ask your friends! Ask your parents! And if you can and feel comfortable, include a bit of information about your circumstances so we can look for trends. Thank you!!
I spell it Hannukah, and I’m Jewish, female, and a young teen. How about you?

Okay, so the data shows thus far that Hannukah, Hanukkah, and Chanukah are roughly equally common, and the only real trend is that Jews are more likely to spell it Chanukah. I guess that makes sense, given that non-Jews are more likely to pronounce it with a normal H instead of a throat-clearing H (as in chet, chaf, or challah).

I spell it Chanukah, because that is pronouced. I am female, a pre-teen, and an Israelie Jew.
