Languages!! What languages
Languages!! What languages are you guys learning? Does anyone do Duolingo? I am currently learning Spanish for school and on Duo, and I previously did some Italian on Duo too. It seems like all my friends are learning French...

Hey, I'm also learning Japanese! I was using a lot of random apps before but then I switched to Duolingo and I'm really it. And I'm starting a class called Intro to World Languages where you learn a little bit of different languages.

@Leo, that's cool! I'm learning Japanese on Duolingo but also at school.

I'm joining the Latin club. I started taking Latin this year and I'll be taking Latin II starting Wednesday (when the second semester begins). I took Spanish for three years in middle school but I still don't know very much of the language. I also know assorted phrases in French and Russian, some Japanese suffixes thanks to all the PG manga I read in fifth grade, and a bit of Italian because of piano (not to mention Italian is very similar to Spanish and I can usually glean a general meaning by comparing them).
@Jith, if you're trying to say "I love Latin," you're close! That squiggly line - the tilde - isn't used in Latin, though; we use a straight line, called a macron. So amō Latinum would be correct.

I am taking Spanish in school, and I can phonetically read Hebrew (by which I mean I can sound out most words, but don't know what most of them mean) and know a bit of oddly specific phrases, prayers, and surface-level words.

I’m currently teaching myself French on Duolingo! I made a club on it.

Good question! I'm currently in my first year ever of Spanish at school, and I'm learning pretty quickly. English is my first language, so Spanish is not too difficult, even though everyone in my class has a lot more experience than I have. As for other languages, I speak modern Hebrew (not quite fluently, but getting there), and I have a pretty good understanding of both medival Hebrew and Aramaic from Talmud study (written, not spoken!!). I dream of being a polyglot someday, like my grandmother--she spoke seven languages. Languages I want to learn someday include Arabic, Mandarin, and Yiddish. Latin would be cool to learn too, although I'm primarily interested in spoken languages, not dead ones.

I'm taking my first year of Spanish as a second language! Learning new languages is something that comes to me easily, so I am having a good time. My Spanish teacher is also amazing, she has such a passion for the language and culture. I'm considering minoring in college in Spanish because of her- I've just fallen in love with it!

Ooh, I’m taking French, too! *high fives Leafy and Abi* It’s my first year though, and I don’t think I’m very good at it. *shrugs* I was learning Norwegian on Duolingo for awhile, but I’ve kinda dropped it. And I know a few scattered words in Swedish, just for, google translate. I want to finish learning Norwegian, and learn Swedish, eventually. I also think Irish and Scottish Gaelic would be so cool to learn. Oh yeah, and I know a few bits and phrases of Quenya Elvish! My friend and I taught ourselves a bit, but unfortunately there aren’t a lot of Elvish-learning resources, so it can be hard to learn.
