Random Thoughts/Things?
I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

Ok well Zoba left and I'm sad. Also some people had their CBverseries. So it's really bittersweet round here.

For some reason my fingers get really cold really fast. Really really cold.

I was listening to this concert on the radio the other day, it was at Madison Square Garden. At night. It was probably cold. The performers were, of course, amazing, but I was most impressed by the voices of the crowd. HOW they could keep up screaming at the same intensity for 5 hours is BEYOND me. I admire their resilience :P

Was it Jingleball?

Yeah! It was my first time listening to it, and it was really fun! Were you listening too?
(December 16, 2024 - 11:22 am)
Yeah, I was listening for my second (maybe third?) year! I agree, it was really fun. There were some artists I really wanted to hear, but it got super late where I live :(. I was able to hear 21 Pilots, Benson Boone, and a tiny bit of Teddy Swims though. I also would have listened to more if I knew when it was lol. I thought it was today, but luckily I happened to be listening to the radio at the time that it actually was. What was your favorite performance? Anyway, I'm going to go check if I can find any of the performances online.

Dude, I LOVE Benson Boone!!

Ohhh haha yeah I only knew it was happening because I listened to that station alllll the time and heard them advertising it in the commercials. It started at 7 (Eastern time zone) and it went until midnight XD I was pretty tired but I wanted to hear the whole thing.
I was mostly listening to it in the first place because NCT Dream was playing (thankfully, they were second to play) because they are my 4th favorite Kpop band... Hehe it was cool listening to them
I also enjoyed um... Meghan Trainer, I think her name is? She was really fun to listen to

How do Chinese and Japanese people type? If you have a character for every word, instead of for every letter, what the dickens does your keyboard look like?
And what about algebra? Do you use x's and y's, or something else?
I've been wondering this for ages - if anyone has any answers I'd love to hear them... :)

When I type, I spell out the pinyin (with the same alphabet as English) and a lot of character options show up that I can click on (Chinese has a lot of homonyms, basically) or manually write on a touchscreen.
No idea about algebra though.

@Admins I included some characters in Japanese, 'a,' 'i,' 'u,' 'e,' 'o,' 'kanji,' 'feeling,' 'small,' and 'dog.'" I've been careful to always define what they mean and it's only a few that I think illustrate my points, but I know the CB doesn't support other languages so if you have to delete them no worries and sorry for the inconvenience!
For Japanese, there are three alphabets: hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Hiragana (あいうえお - hiragana characters for "a i u e o") is the one most similar to an English alphabet: there are 46 basic characters, and almost all words can be written in hiragana. They're also used for things in sentences like particles. Katakana (アイウエオ - katakana characters for "a i u e o") has the same 46 basic characters but they look different. Katakana is used for words that are borrowed from other languages. Like my name (as I'm not Japanese) would be written in katakana, and a word like 'tomato' in katakana would be the characters to ma to (トマト - "tomato"). Kanji (漢字 - "kanji", hiragana equivalent かんじ) is what you see when you think of Japanese or Chinese characters (actually a lot of them came from Chinese, and 'kanji' literally means 'Chinese character'); there are thousands of them and they're often more complicated, representing a word or part of a word. Like there's a kanji for dog (犬, hiragana equivalent いぬ, pronounced "i nu"), and a kanji for child (子, hiragana equivalent こ, pronounced "ko"), and you could write small dog (子犬, pronounced "ko i nu") to get the equivalent of puppy. Kanji always have a hiragana equivalent, but some words don't use kanji only hiragana, and some words use a few characters of each. Katakana doesn't really mixes with other alphabets.
For typing on a computer, each key is a hiragana character. You'd just type out whatever you want to say in hiragana and then either use 'live conversion' where it autocorrects to the kanji, or press space and cycle through the options (as some kanji have the same hiragana spelling, think like homonyms. For example, '漢字' means 'Chinese character' and 感じ means 'feeling/impression' but both have the hiragana かんじ and are pronunced 'kanji'). Or in my case, I've never learned the layout of a Japanese keyboard, so I just type out the romanized version of each character and it auto-converts. So I'd type out t o and it'd convert to the hiragana character to (と). It's basically the same on a phone.
hopefully this is interesting! I have no idea how similar typing in Chinese is (probably fairly?), and idk where you're going with the algebra idea lol
Thank you for this detailed explanation, Hex. I'll allowing your full text.

I basically use letters as pinyin, which are letters that spell out the chinese word. Though there is also zhu yin, which is Taiwanese technically, but is composed of different looking characters that don't really get included in keyboards. Usually keyboards look the same, its just that the letters after being spelled out into a word transforms into a Chinese character.
I have no idea about algebra though...

Wow, thanks guys - that's so interesting :) I really didn't have any idea about any of this lol. It's fascinating to see how other cultures have such different ways of doing things.
