Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

would anyone be interested in a ski lodge (hook below)? idk if i'll actually do it mostly because idk if it'll be 100% CB-friendly even with my CB-friendlyifications, but nonetheless. Cato doesn't come in but Reshinerr is the main character :P

This is everyone’s favorite tour guide, Cato - short for Cat o’ All Worlds, of course. I don’t come into this ski lodge, but I’m from the original book and all, so really. why wouldn’t I enlighten you on this amazing, amazing destination? Welcome to the Library of the Stars! It’s ready for you, whether you are or not.

The Library is fully-stocked with all sorts of amenities. The kitchen is stuffed full of comfort foods - yes, even yours! The vending machine can make anything you ask for, a bakery case is full of items chosen for you personally by the cosmos, and sprinkles of the stars are included for all of your cupcake needs. Not, of course, that you're limited to cupcakes. Oh, and it truly has the best tuna milk i’ve ever tasted… *purring*

<Reshinerr: that’s not in the script Cato that’s not in the script why are you saying that that’s not in the script->

...Correct. Apologies. Well, surely you’ll all enjoy the recreation room! From beanbags made from the highest-quality fabric of the cosmos to the bookshelves with carefully-chosen library books and even a catch the fish game, you’ll be sure to enjoy yourself. And guess what? If you catch enough fish you get a treat!

<Reshinerr: It only has that for you.>

Don’t be rude, Reshinerr.

<Reshinerr: Rude?>

Our feline visitors want to be entertained as well. And you’re a human and all -

<Reshinerr: Not really.>

-so naturally your interests are tasteless and dull. Anyway, back to the script. You even get your own room, designed specifically for you by the cosmos themselves! Do note that once you’re here, you may not be able to leave, and disappearances into clouds of smoke, puddles of ink, black holes, etc are frequently reported. But really, from the endless shelves to the ever-changing other rooms, it’s a truly magical destination. Fill out the form today!*

*form not included

stop guys i'm dating this dude and he goes "would u still date me if i was in prison" and i go "depends what u were there for" which is a perfectly reasonable response in my personal opinion and he makes up a scenario where he MURDERS PEOPLE and i said "no" because i would leave him if he murdered someone????? which is reasonable i think cause he's not gonna do it's fictional anyway, but if he did i would leave him, of course! and he's GENUINELY UPSET and he's saying stuff like "nobody should just drop someone so quick like that" like YES I SURE WOULD IF U WERE A MURDERER WHATTTTTTTT
i thought he was upset as a joke at first but he's so serious oh my gosh

hi

(this reply is directed to Lyric mainly, but ofc if you're interested feel free to read! and a disclaimer: as the admin said, I want to be sure to be respectful of all beliefs. What I've written out here isn't intended to be seen as concrete and definite; I'm very open to the posssibility that it isn't true. I can't be sure that it is true, and I know that I don't really know what the truth is about religion. There are so many valid interpretations besides mine! Mine is just speculation: akin to saying "hey what if the sky isn't blue, it just looks blue because some millionaire painted it and we haven't noticed" or something equally hypothetical :) )

So what I've speculated is that perhaps God is a spirit or force of love and caring and goodness. Similarly to a parent, he (or she, or whatever; in this post I'll just use "he" to make it simpler) cares about every one of his creations and wants the best for them, and is able to see, better than we can, what is best for us. That's why sometimes things happen that seem bothersome or bad in the moment, but later we see that they were better for us in the long run. When we pray to God for something that he knows will be good for us, he tries to grant the prayer - like if a child asks a parent for help paying for college, or for a new toy at Christmas. He wants us to be happy and loving to each other. (If he knows it won't be good for us, though, he won't grant our prayers.)

However, I think God can't function if we don't let him. When a person refuses to listen to the impulse to do good and be caring and loving - which is God's essence - there's nothing God can do (similarly to a parent trying to protect a child, but not being able to protect the child from everything if the child won't agree). The person is effectually shutting out God. When this happens, the consequences are that things happen that are definitely bad - like wars, dictatorships, and all the other things humans do that cause suffering. God is always ready to help us out of them if we let him, but if the dictators and generals in charge of the world shut their minds and souls to him, he can't speak to them. This means that he can't stop situations in which he is not being listened to. For me, this explains how God can exist at the same time as things that he obviously can't have sanctioned. It's not that God lets bad things happen or that he uses them to punish us for our sins; it's that he just can't do anything about them without the cooperation of the people who are responsible for them. The most he can do, when we are being oppressed by the world, is help us face it with bravery, courage, and love, leading to nobility even in the midst of cruelty - like when people sacrifice themselves to protect others. As for natural disasters and other non-human disasters, those happen because the natural world was not designed according to his principles of love and non-suffering. I don't know why. Good things do happen because of him, though, through the force of his and our love. For example, he might make two people meet and fall in love. I don't know why he has the power to manipulate the physical world to make good things happen yet not to prevent bad things, but then I don't know everything XD

As for the reconcilation of science and religion, my standpoint is: why not both? For example, I believe that evolution is the true explanation as regards the creation of different species. But I think God could have been behind evolution, or at least the original creation of life. Just because he didn't do it in the way the Bible describes doesn't mean he couldn't do it through scientific means. (This sounds rather vague, I know - how could God do something through scientific means? My answer is, I don't know :P But I imagine it's possible all the same.) I do think, though, that there are some aspects of science that go against religion, because they enable us to do things that are beyond what we're meant for as humans and also go against the impulse of love and caring and humility that's meant to be our only motivation. But that's a whole other topic :) (And I only take exception to the most radical aspects of science, not more "ordinary" ones like vaccination.)

I also don't think God punishes us for our sins. I think he wants us to be happy, above all, and that the remorse you feel when you realize the implications of a "sin" (whatever that may be) is enough. God wants to protect us. Sometimes he might put us through something so that we will grow as people and not become "spoiled" and whiny. But I don't see him as a person who wantonly punishes and causes suffering, no matter what we do. After all, if he punished people, why are there so many unprincipled and cruel people roaming the earth quite prosperously? I see God as a very protective, loving figure. In the version of the New Testament that we read nowadays, Christ refers to him as "our Father", which sounds all very stiff and formal, but according to an audiobook by Pope Francis that I listened to, Christ originally referred to him as "Daddy", which I think is a beautiful concept: an infinitely loving parent somewhere out in the universe, who is at once everywhere and at the same time inside yourself, someone whom you can always turn to for help and guidance and will keep you safe if you listen to him. I think the feeling you get when you're with loved family members and you're snuggling on the couch with them and you feel warm and happy and satisfied on a deep, spiritual level, is the same feeling that God can give us. And it's important to spread this love and contentment to others, through being kind and principled.

Anyway, I hope that was interesting! I love rambling on about this stuff, please ask me if you have any questions, or comment about your own ideas if you'd like! (And again, @all, please don't feel like you have to pay attention to anything I've said here, it's just my thoughts. If you have a different interpretation that's totally fine by me and I will not dispute it, because if there's one thing that can't be proven, it's religion :) )
