Random Thoughts/Things?

Random Thoughts/Things?

I wasn’t really sure what to call this thread, but I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for awhile now. Basically, anyone can post anything here. Any random thought you have, any random thing that happens to you, any random question that pops into your mind. Have fun, and don’t be afraid to be random.

Same friendy. I don't have a phone and Idk when I'll get one. The only time I was allowed to use one, was at the Boston FanEXPO.....I was on it for a bit.

But I feel you.

Honestly, phones aren't worth it. Their only benefit is that then people might not exclude you so obviously (I'm really sorry you've had those experiences of feeling left out). But you might end up feeling just as left out and just as pressured to "fit in." If a person isn't being very friendly to you just because you don't have a phone, it's likely that he or she won't be a very good friend even once you get a phone and become part of the group. A real friend is someone who will call you up on the telephone, write you a letter, or talk with you face to face rather than leaving you out of group chats and text chains. It's best to be proud to be phoneless, a person confidently rejecting all the difficulties phones can bring (for example, addiction to social media and constant distraction throughout the day from texts and the like), and never mind what other people think. I hope that helps you feel better!

(I think maybe I'll start a thread about being phoneless; it seems to be quite a thing on the CB, and it's a good thing!)

I didn't have a phone until I turned 14, so you're not alone! Hang in there.

The whole concept of writing styles is kind of perplexing. We use the same words, often grouped in similar contexts, and yet we are distinguishable by how they are chosen and arranged, despite the clear limitation of grammatical structure. I think the key is the word choice, the redundancy of words, and the extensive vocabulary available. Still, it is rather amazing in its way.

Is anyone else absolutely terrified of AI writing and art, and as a person who wants to do writing and art as a career, afraid that AI will take over and leave human art abilities useless so that you will spend your entire life at an office job wishing you'd been born just thirty years before? And everything you love to do will be taken away from you by technology and the very thing that makes us human will become dominated by robots? This is what I think about that keeps me up at night and honestly I have no idea what's going to happen but I am very truly scared. Someone please reassure me that it's not going to happen because I need to be able to do art for a living.

AI will never replace the creative work of real human artists and writers for me or in Cricket! Rest assured and sleep well.

I feel you bestie! I feel you. Your art will always be amazing! Something made from a human being, that cares about their art. And put time and effort into their drawings will always stand higher than AI for me.

hey lupine! i worry about this a lot as well. not to get too far into the weeds but to see people doing so many things with a.i. is disturbing to me, especially because i don't believe there are many (if any) ethical oversight committees that regulate this stuff.

what does comfort me, though, is that

a) a.i. can, at this point, make stuff that looks pretty but doesn't have any real meaning other than what you see on the surface

b) the people who make a.i. art strike me as genuinely uncreative people. (i hope i'm allowed to say this admins!)

i'm not saying that if you messed around with a chatbot or those image generators that makes you uncreative. i'm talking about the people who make whole children's books or anime intros with a.i. generation technology.

these people, when given seemingly boundless opportunities (or at least that's what they say) make very uninspired postapocalyptic stories that we've seen hundreds of times before, narrativeless action sequences with no apparent stakes, or images of anime girls.

we already have postapocalytic stories, action sequences, and anime people in scores — those are all made by regular artists, and are infinitely better than what artificial intelligence could possibly give us. it is called "artificial" intelligence for a reason. until it's used to give us art that no human could possibly create, it will always be inferior to natural intelligence. honestly it may never be able to do that, which is a fact i'm comfortable with.

a.i. art isn't appealing because it shows us things we have already seen, but without any soul.

i'll end with a quote from hayao miyazaki. you've probably heard this story, but around 2011, when he was shown a very early a.i. technology that could reduce studio ghibli's workload greatly by generating backdrops for their scenes, miyazaki called it an "insult to life itself." i think he is right.

(admins, this got pretty venomous. which i apologize for. as a writer this stuff gets me quite passionate. excise as much of this as you need to. love you guys <3

I agree with you and Hayao Miyazaki.

That is true...I'm hoping that if AI ever replaces any artists, it will just replace people like James Patterson who write formulaic mass-produced books that aren't very creative.

I love that Miyazaki quote (and what you said about AI having no soul). Thanks, bakerloo!

We still don't have AI that can pass the Turing test, so that is not going to happen anytime soon. Also, most AI programmers have good intentions and will only use AI for art when there are no humans available to take the job. The ones that don't won't be hired by the art companies that have good intentions, and those are the ones you would want to work for. Robots should and will never take the place of humans unless strictly nessecary and when they do, that is a placeholder until they find humans. I believe robots can be useful tools in places of strict logic and math, but should not take the place of creative thinking unless absolutely nessecary. Sorry about my rant, I just LOVE robots.

Today on Reuby Moonnight's adventures in stupidity.

I didn't het dressed in actual clothes, until three pm.

I had a small breakfast...and didn't eat lunch. What is wrong with me.

I'm forcing myself to stay up late so I can drink coffee in the morning.

That's all for today!

Anyways. Does anyone do this thing: if your at a sleepover with a friend and your sharing a bed. Do you feel bad if you turn your back to them to sleep?
