think about it

what will we be in 50 years?

just a paragraph in your grandchild's textbook

a historical fiction novel

a movie romanticized

because there is nothing romantic about this

this year our school

did a lockdown drill

four times

four times more then we should have

today in class

i had to think about

what id do if someone

came into class

where would i hide

what was my escape route

and in my classroom i saw all

15 of my fellow students

eager to learn

each with dreams to make true

and i don't know what i

would do

if someone took those eager dreams

before they could even

close there eyes

How can we say never again?

It will happen again, and there's nothing we can do. We the children have no vote, no power. Those who could change it are outnumbered or won't listen. We've tried to protest and commemorate and share our stories and our fears. What else can we do? If we protested in absolutely enormous numbers that could get us somewhere. I'd be down for it if it happened.

And I think it might happen where I live, a super conservative backwater place, the white teenage male with access to guns capital of the world. Not that a shooter couldn't be of a different gender or race, of course, just looking at statistics. It could happen anywhere.

There have been more school shootings than weeks in 2018. (this counts accidental discharges of guns, but only if someone is killed or injured)

Maybe when our generation is in power it will be different. I pray that it will be so.

I usually don't voice my opinions very much, especially on these types of posts, but here I am just with a quick comment.

I think it will always happen. Even if you take guns away, or allow them, the threat of shooting will always be there. Because in the end, human hearts don't change just because of a new law.

So, Im sorry if this seems offencive, but I would like to voice my opinion. Thanks for reading

Also, please pardon my aweful spelling! Im not too great at it.

TK, we're not going to open a discussion on gun control on Chatterbox, but we thank you for your thoughts.

Back in March, someone called our school and our neighboring high school and said they were going to "shoot them up". We and the high school were in lockdown for 4 hours. It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life. One girl in my class was crying because her sister was stuck in a bathroom, standing on the toilet seat.

4 hours later, a police report was released. It was a prank call. A freaking prank call. Who would do that? Are school shootings just a joke? We were scared to death, and I had to send an "I love you" text to my parents. Enough.

Yes, this all will keep happening.

But if there are no guns, it cannot happen as easily or regularly.

Yes, I think our generation, the generation who wasn't all privileged, who knows how bad the world truly is, the generation who respects and cares about life more than money, will make a change. We already are.

We need POLICY and CHANGE.

Speak up. Even a few voices can make a change, to those who listen. And those who don't...they won't be in charge much longer.

WE are the generation of CHANGE.

Make the most of it.

Claaws, we understand and support your concern. We cannot, however, post statistics without checking them first for accuracy and we don't have the time to do that. And, as we've said before, we're not going to have a discussion of gun control on Chatterbox. I hope you understand.

I couldn't agree more.

It's absurd how we actually need to try to stop this from happening again. But as you said, we should all speak up for the people who've been hurt in any way by these awful events. I hate how we even have to say events, plural. We do need to speak up, and even if rallies or writing to politicians may not seem to work, it does. We just need to plug away at it, because we aren't going to stop until someone makes a change. Politicians can't just stuff cotton in their ears and pretend everything is alright. It could happen to their families too, after all. Not doing anything comes back to bite you in the pants, so we won't not do anything.

All in all, I agree.

I think we can make a change.

Admins why didn't you post my comment? Was I too religious or conservative for you?

I can't tell for sure to what you are referring, but we are not going to have a discussion of gun control on Chatterbox. I've said that before.

This makes me want to shout and cry at the same freaking time. We are such a mess. During our regular stranger danger drill our teacher had to give us suggestions on how to be safe from gunfire. Really. She told us she would give her life for us, all 19 of us. TO. FREAKING. MANY. SHOOTINGS.

ENOUGH.

(Levana says uped. That either means top or she agrees with me.)
