Why is it that we can't top *old* threads? You act as if the CB is a museum, and nothing can be touched. Like the old CBers that left still have control over the CB somehow. But this is a new generation! I want to be able to top old threads if I want to! Who's to say I can't?
Anyone can top old threads. But it's also nice to keep currently active threads near the top. So it's good to limit the "topping" to older threads that may be of current interest. Ideally there would be a balance.

You can. But I personally think of it as kind of a museum, especially because those people aren't around anymore, so they have no say in what their creation will turn out to be.

I think more people should see this thread.

I think it's polite not to top old threads simply to give new threads more of a chance of being seen and commented on. The old threads died because people became bored of them and there were newer things to talk about. It's always fun to find an old thread that seems cool and remake it, but I think it's better to be able to converse with those who are actually around to see and respond. You can't talk to someone who hasn't thought about the site for ten years, but you can talk to the people currently around. So, if you're scouring the cluttered void and see a great thread, just remake it. You can even improve it or give it your own personal twist if you feel like it!
Well said, Cockleburr. Thank you.

I'm just going to have to agree with Cockleburr, and support their opinion on this.
Even though I'm two days late.
There's nothing to say you can't top the old threads, but the old threads are old because people don't use them anymore. People might get confused when they show up, and some of the old threads could also be debates and wars that we've passed.
Also, I've seen a thread in the past that just kept getting topped--but it never was used again, despite the topper's call to join the old thread, and all their efforts.
It's also way more fun to remake them! You can put your own spin on these threads (as Cockleburr said), perfect them, and make them fresh and new. People are more likely to reply to a new thread (even though I'm a dork who always posts a couple days after the conversation has ended. Not that I just did that or anything...), and are more interested in new things as well.
And I have to agree with the Admins too; there should be a balance.
