Hair?
My hair is a little longer than mid back length, and recently I've been thinking about cutting it to shoulder/collarbone length. I have wanted to cut it for a really long time, but its been two years since I have cut it, and I'm terrified that it will look horrible. I have cut my hair shoulder length before, but that was fourish years ago and my hair has changed since then. Its thick and most definitely can be frizzy.
Some days I hate my long hair: its in the way, it takes forever to wash and dry, it goes full Hermione Mode, it doesn't look pretty in an up do. But sometimes it looks so shiny and long and gorgeous and I love it.
I have an opportunity to cut it this weekend, but I don't know if I should. I want a change, but I'm scared.
Opinions?

Personally, I think cutting your hair might be a cool idea if you've been thinking about it for a while. I don't think it will look horrible at shoulder to collarbone length, no matter what type of hair you have. Personally, I used to have really long hair as well and was terrified of cutting it. Then, I got tired of accidently sitting on it and the hairdresser said if I cut it short that I could donate. I wasn't planning to donate, I really just wanted enough off so I would't sit on it, but it ended up looking good.Cutting your hair will cut down on time it takes to get ready and the amount of shampoo and conditioner youhave to use. Since you do want a change, I think it is a good idea. And in the end, it is just hair. It'll grow back quickly if for any reason you don't like it.
One thing to keep in mind though is that you hair might curl in different ways after you cut it. Since I got my hair cut a lot shorter than you are planning, this might be different. But whereas my hair used to be completely straight, it now forms waves around my face.
Try clipping your hair up or looping it up to see if you like how the length looks with your face.

Ah, I get where you are coming from. I used to have rather long hair, almost halfway down my back, and it drove. Me. Nuts. I randomly got it cut short every now and then, because my hair was so broken and had so many split ends. It was always frizzy, and one time when I had long hair, a hairdresser gave me side bangs, and without all that weight of the hair on them, my bangs instantly curled up and changed out of their frizzy mode. I have layered hair that's grown out from shoulder/collar bone length with side bangs and I love it. But then that's my hair. Everyone's hair is different. Lot's of people have naturaly curly hair in my family, so when my hair is short and without all the weight of hair dragging it down, I have some curls.
However, it really only is up to you. I find that with my collar bone length hair I can't really put it up into anything unless it is a loose pony tail that looks choppy. So that's one thing that will change. If you do end up getting your hair cut, maybe think about getting a few layers instead of just a sheer cut, because even though it limits how you can put it up, they really are life savers. (Totally random, but Agatha just said 'mich'! Not exactly a word, but she obviously knows that we are neighbors to Michigan!)

What are some advantages to having layers?

Layered hair is generally easier to brush and less frizzy. :)

Fairly recently, I cut all my hair off into a pixie cut, and it was one of the best hair decisions I've ever made. I was really scared of doing it, and I almost bailed, but I'm so glad I didn't. In the end, the decision is up to no one but yourself. If you asked me, though, I'd say go for it! Life is about taking risks sometimes. It'll be scary, but trying new things can be scary, and hey, life's too short.
(And like GreenMango said, it'll always grow back.)

I would advise probably going ahead and trying it, and seeing how you like it. Chances are, it'll be nice to have all that weight of long hair gone, and if you decide you want long hair again, it'll always grow back, like Abigail said.

There aren't advantages, per se, but a lot of it has to do with your hair texture and what not. Like when you said that sometimes your hair gets super frizzy and goes into Hermoine Mode, (happens to the best of us, believe me) layers, as well as your hair just being generally shorter, will help it lay more flat. It helps to frame your face more depending on your face shape, and I have a round face and a Widow's Peak hairline, so it evens out and adds volume to my hair. Layers could give your hair more shape, I guess you could say. Most professional haircutters can take one look at your hair and face shape and decide wether or not layers would be beneficial to you. So if you do end up getting a haircut, maybe ask their opinion in wether or not they think that layers would look good.

Maybe this is my impulsive side talking, but I think you should cut it! My opinion on hair was always- if it looks bad, lesson learned, it will grow back. But it might look great, so why not try it? I've changed my hair 8 ways in 14 years- at the moment, I'm growing out a pixie cut and it's to my chin, so I know how it feels to be scared of a cut! I think you might as well try it- my philosophy is to try as much as I can before I get to an age where it actually matters a lot, so by that time I'll have it all figured out. Hope this helped, good luck!

I think you should do what you are most comfortable with. Most hair salons have catalogs of different styles yiu can get your hair cut in- maybe you could look through one and find something that you like. I have pretty long hair, and later today I'm getting a few inches cut off.

Cut it if you want to. It'll grow back. I'm really not the person to ask, though--I haven't cut mine in years.
