Chatterbox: Down to Earth
I'm new here!
I'm new here!
Hello, citizens of chatterbox;
I have some questions.
#1: What is an AE?
#2: What is the best board to post short stories on?
#3: Does anyone have suggestions on coming up with a good username?
Sincerely,
I Don't Have a Name Yet
Welcome!
1. AE stands for alter ego, Latin for "other I." On Chatterbox it's a character created to show another side of one's personality.
2. Inkwell
3. Whatever you like, but I suggest you look around Chatterbox a bit first and try to avoid any of the other names you see because it gets very confusing when two people submit comments using the same name. At least vary it by adding a numeral or extra syllable or something.

Welcome to the CB! Names I really like are: names from books and movies (ie. Hermione G, Smaug, ect.) I also love city/country names like Kyoto (although that’s taken), Osaka, Sydney, Amsterdam ect. I also love the names Willow, Rune Weaver and Lollie. No idea why. Good luck!

Hello! As you may already be able to tell, my name is Starseeker. The Admins (the people who watch over this website and review the posts for content; also the reason why things take so long to post) already answered some of your questions, but I'll answer them again, and tell you a little bit about myself.
1. An AE is a character that a CBer (Chatterboxer; someone who posts on the CB <Chatterbox>, so that would be you, me, LilyPad, etc) creates up. Originally, they were to show different sides of a CBer, but now, they're more for fun. They usually speak in italics, bold, or a combination of both, and only speak on specific threads that are for AEs only. Here's my AE, Zoey: Hey! I hope you find your name soon! AEs are not expected or required; many CBers don't have them. Some have as much as... 4? 5? Some (like me) have only one.
2. I agree with the Admins (they also speak in italics, but they are not AEs. They post at the end of posts when they want to say something, and always sign it "Admin" or "Admins"). The Inkwell would probably be the best place for short stories. If you've been taking a look around and are now thinking, "But Starseeker (you can call me Star, or Seeker, or SS, or Starseeker, whatever you want, pretty much) I see short stories on places like CaC (Chirp at Cricket), PP (Pudding's Place), DtE (Down to Earth), and BaB (Blab about Books)! Why can't I post there?" I'll tell you! Those stories aren't necessarily stories. They might be something called a ski lodge. A ski lodge is where a CBer will post their charrie sheets (character sheets; the author might ask for a CBer's online name, age, appearance, etc-- NOT your real one. For example, I might say 'Starseeker' for name and '156 moons' for age) and the author will write them into a story. During that story, one of the CBers is a murderer and begins killing off the others. You try to guess the murderer before it's too late!
3. Good usernames... hmm. Starseeker was easy for me, because it's a name that has deep meaning for me. I made it up a while ago with one of my best friends of the time, and it reminds me of happier times and stuff like that. Is there something you loved a lot, or still love? For example, if you love... let's say... music, you could post under "Alto" or "Piano" or "Forte", something like that. Some people change their names a lot-- I wouldn't recommend that. People get to know you quickly, and it's confusing to change your name a lot.
If there's anything else, don't hesitate to ask me or anyone else! We're all here for you! :)
Okay, and, a little bit about me: Hey, I'm Starseeker, but I bet you already knew that. I've been on here for about a year now, which is about the average, I'd say. I love chocolate, long socks, oversized sweaters, cloaks, Star Trek, Harry Potter, books of all kind (especially ones by John Flanagan, Rick Riordan, Marissa Meyer, Bree Despain, Baroness Emmuska Orczy, Laure Eve...), cats, dragons, writing (I'm in the middle of a book! It's on Inkwell... somewhere... XD), sketching, dreaming, and so much more! I really hope you come to like the CB as much as I do.
~Starseeker
(Not everyone signs off like I do. As far as I know, I'm the only one!)

Is it Starseeker because of the WoF ship (Starflight and Fatespeaker)? I'm so happy I fornd this thread because I needed the answers to these questions. Thank you so much for answering them!

You recognized the book series this came out of?? I'm impressed! And, no, it's not because of the ship. I made this name up before Brightest Night came out, and before I knew what a ship was. Besides, that would be Starspeaker, not Starseeker. It's actually an original character I made, because I was making a fanfiction of the book series. The plot line was basically that the prophecy had been misinterpreted, and the Brightest Night it spoke of was the false one, with the comet. Starseeker was the NightWing dragonet in it. And you're welcome, of course! It seems you like this book series as well-- if you're planning on changing your name, I'd recommend something from it. ;)

Hi! I did change my name, as that was actually my first post (I'm not TBD). I saw my shipname mistake after I posted ._.
I'm still glad I found another fan... and I long-time one too. I mean, this whippersnapper right here started right after Talons of Power came out.

Hello, To be determined! It's nice to meet ya! :D
Since the admins seemed to have answered your questions, I'll introduce myself!
I'm Inktail, a cat who looooves to write and read! I love fantasy and dystopian novels the most. I like to Irish dance, play the violin, play video games ( LOADS of video games--Zelda/Nintendo games to first person shooters to puzzlers! ), and tons of other stuff.
I got my name when I was thinking one night. At the time, I was obsessed with Warriors by Erin Hunter, so I knew I wanted a name in that style. I also knew I wanted something cute and writerly. I came up with MANY names--some super cringey, like Bloodmoon and Inkpot, some kinda cute like Quillfeather and Joybird. Eventually, the one that stuck out to me the most was Inktail, and it stuck!
I originally joined during the KYNGDOM craze--under Trill Woodhena. (That name just kinda came to me.) Eventually though, I quit that and moved to Cricket full time!
You'll mainly see me posting under Blab About Books (BaB), Chirp at Cricket (CaC) and The Inkwell, although I do sometimes post in This Month, Down to Earth (DtE) and Pudding's Place. I do take unannounced hiatuses a lot xD
Hope you enjoy it here on Cricket!
Stay inky!

All right, I've chosen my name!
Now I'll introduce myself.
My name is Alizarine, and I like to read, sculpt, and do long algebra equations. I semi-like writing as long as there's no restrictions about using the word 'said', or word counts, or something. My favorite book series is A Series of Unfortunate Events and the supplementary books.
I wanted a username that somehow related to ink (like Inktail or Quill) so I did some research. 'Alizarine' is a type of ink invented in the nineteenth century. It also has a fantasy-sounding name, so I went with it.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
Hasta la pasta,
Alizarine

I guess i'll introduce myself too, then!
just so you know, this won't be as long as anyone else's, because i'm kinda the one who posts the short posts on here :/ sigh.... but anyway.
I'm Catsclaw (though you probably figured that out already...) i only joined in july 2017, so you're not alone in being a bit of a newbie. (newbie, oldie, and middly are controversial terms, don't use them or you will be stampeded by a rampaging herd of angry rhino-dragons with poisonous fangs, firey breath, and roars so loud they can bust your eardrums... well, newbie is better, but unless you're talking about yourself or someone who joined a few days ago, DON'T USE IT!!!!!!!!!!! }:< )
I am an Xtreme nerd, pokemon lover, Doctor Who lover extrordinaire, minecraft player, D&D lover, and a bookworm. My favorite books are the Warroirs series by Erin Hunter. I am also a unschooler. and i have quite a lot of friends, here AND in "real" (what defines real?) life.
(February 1, 2018 - 11:21 am)
I like D&D too! I don't play much (once, maybe twice a year with my cousins), but it's pretty fun. I have an neutral good elf ranger. What's your character?
(February 1, 2018 - 1:25 pm)
A half-elf fighter. also, i'm pretty sure that a few other people on the CB play D&D too.
At least one of your admins does! I played a human druid for many years, and a kenku rogue for a short while, too.

Kenku! That's pretty cool.
(February 1, 2018 - 7:22 pm)
hey! Nice to meet you, new best friend! I'm Danie, your friendly neighborhood nerdy teenager and also DND player! I play a neutral chaotic gnome warlock(I play in a fairly criminal party) but like you I don't get to play much since our usual DM is at college.
I also like to draw, program, and be utterly awkward in human conversations.
(February 1, 2018 - 5:27 pm)
I love all kinds of roleplaying games. I'm durrently playing one called Dungeonworld. I got d20 earrings for my birthday and I was so happy and I'm wearing them now. Welcome! I joined about a week after you, so I don't know if I'm qualified to be saying this, but still...
