I'm working on a steampunk costume because making costumes makes me really happy.
Anyways, if you do like making costumes, here's a place where you can discuss said costumes, ask questions, and share pieces of advice!

Nice! I really like steampunk costumes. I really love making accesories for costumes, and Pied Piper has made three different coloured and different material cloaks. I'm more of a drawer and crafter, although I have made a cowl/hood with a sewing machine, which was really fun and I'm very happy with the results. I just use the word crafter/creator because I make a variety of different things.
This seems like a cool thread!

That’s so cool! I’m actually really bad at the sewing stuff and better at chopping foam into bits and making stuff :P
Admins, is it ok if I post this picture of a gas mask that I made? Only my hand and the costume piece is visible in it.
Yes, OK, but I'd prefer something more positive than a gas mask!

That's really cool! Have you ever been to a con? What are some of the costume pieces that you've made?
I'm currently working on a steampunk cosplay. There's this guy called Lost Wax who does these incredible videos. You do have to buy his patterns, but I found it was totally worth it.
Random advice: If you want to make a piece of armor look like metal, you first need to paint it black (if you're turning it silver) or brown (if you're turning it bronze or gold.) To properly give foam armor that treatment, you're best off finding a wax metallic paint like rub'n'buff, or something similar from a crafting store.

I go to GeekGirlCon every year with my mom. I’ve made a few simple things, like a hood, but the main costume I’ve made was Pidge from Votron. It took me quite a while. The hardest part was probably the boots, but only because our spray paint wouldn’t work... I’ve lost my photo of it but I’ll take another and post it.

Ah, yes! I don't cosplay but I make my own costume every Halloween. Last year I was Jyn Erso and boy, that costume was awesome. I found almost everything I needed at Goodwill and then I hacked most of it up to resemble Jyn's outfit...it was the best. Once I did my hair and put on all the stuff and smudged my face, you wouldn't believe how much I resembled her. I still have all the costume pieces because some of it was stuff I already had, such as brown boots. And I found a really nice scarf for like two dollars at Goodwill, which I still have and use as part of my normal clothes.
The one thing I couldn't find was a realistic-looking gun because apparently nobody sells those for reasons...although I could've sworn I saw one or two in some plasticy pirate costume set once....Anyway, so I spent two afternoons making my own! We have a ton of scrap wood in our garage so I took some pieces and cut them up and glued them and painted them and...yeah! I'm quite proud of it. I'm going to post a picture of it tomorrow.
