Chatterbox Career Day!
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Chatterbox Career Day!
Chatterbox Career Day!
So it was career day at my homeschool Tuesday, and this idea popped into my head. What are everyone's dream careers? For some of you older CBers, do you have jobs now? Do you like them? Is your dream career the same now as it was when you were younger?
When people ask me what I want to be when I grow up, I say, "I want to be the next Mary Oliver." For those of you who don't know who that is, she is one of the few people in modern-day America who can make her living off of poetry. THAT job is still a dream. My actual job is agritourism!! It's only part time, because the farm I work at is open specifically during the fall months.
So what about y'all?

That is so amazing! You go for it! Onward Christian Soldiers! (Sorry, I had to!xD!)
Also, you should check out Stephan Rays CD "Swimming Upstream", it's pretty cool and you might be able to relate to some of it.

You might want to look into freelance videography at some point in life. You could make videos for other people (for money) as well as making films on your own. I think it could be a good place to start your filming carrier. My sister is actually a videographer. Just an idea :)

@Admin- I just looked up 'music therapy' online, because I've never heard of it before. Its sounds really interesting! So, it's baisically like a social worker, who uses music as a form of treatment and rehabilitaion? Definatly something I will look into...:)
Yes, I know two therapists personally. One works in a public school system and the other in a hospital and nursing homes. And I read about a group called Healing Harps. If I remember right, I think it said that the vibrations of the harp strings passing from fingers into the body actually calmed the harpist, including young people with behavioral problems.

Way to go General! I respect that very much and I have a similar point of view. What I would like to be is a creationist archeologist. I would like to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, and one way to do that is to turn people minds to the gospel is by creating more and more evidence for creationists and beaking the "fossil record".
Please do not take offense! I do not mean to offend anyone by this. I was merely stating my beliefs. Thanks.
Also I would like to be an artist, and to improve my art skills. Maybe be an art freelancer or something. Also! I would like to be a graphic designer. Which is almost the same thing as a artist.

I have a lot of ideas for what I would like to do with my life. The funny thing is, I don't think of them as careers, I think of them more as various jobs and experiances I want to have. I guess because I don't want to stick with one thing until I'm truly happy.
+ I would like to apprentice or work with OR become a herbalist.
+ I don't know if I want to commit my life to becoming a veterinarian, it costs a lot of money that I'm not willing to pay for somehting that I'm not 100% sure on. But it is something that interests me.
+ Play hockey on the USA women's hockey team. This is a VERY far fetched wish/dream that has a 99.9% probability of never happening, because I have zero experiance of playing hockey on a team and don't have that kind of money. However, it is a dream that I still like to fantasize about.
+ Become a writer. I don't need to 'grow up' to become this. I already am a writer, but at some point I would like to publish my writing, however, it is DEFINITELY not ready for the world. xD
+ Sell my art. Okay, I have sort of sold art before, but I'd like to REALLY get into selling my art. And be able to make a good profit on it.
+ Start an online shop where I can sell my work and where I can (potentially) make a name for myself.
+ Work with animals. This is high on the list. I don't really care what, as long as I can be with them. I don't even care about the pay. This is my greatest dream.
+ Work in my hometown hardware store. No this is not something that I want to do for long. I just want to do it for the experiance.
+ Be in a band (this may or may not happen, seeing as I'm very self-conscious and would probably fail at singing in front of many people).
+ Work on a large scale farm either in PA or KS...or maybe somewhere else.
+ Learn about blacksmithing. This isn't something that interests me on a large scale, but I would like to learn more about it.
+ Work on a large scale horse farm. This is also WAY hight on my list. Like...WAY high.
+ Be a professional photographer. This is also really high on my list, and may happen soon!
+ Maybe something with cars...? Haha, I know this is a little out there, but I really love vehicles and motor engines and I might be interested in doing something with this in later life.
+ Being a film director.
Okay, I have SO many more, but these are some of the magor ones.
As for jobs that I used to want to have when I was younger... well I used to want to be a veterinarian and a secretary. I now have no wish to be a secretary and like I said, I'm not sure about being a veterinarian.
I have also had various jobs. One (my favorite by far) was working on a miniature horse farm on my road. Sadly, the people I worked for moved away, but now I pet sit for some people who have horses and some other people who have sheep, dogs, cats, etc. I don't have any full time or part time jobs right now.
Oh and one more thing, I don't believe that figuring out your 'dream career' and 'one job' is really a good idea. Sure, some people know exactly what they want to do going out of highschool and go straight to college and do it. That is great! But if you don't know what you want to do, my suggestion in follow your heart. Don't go spend a ton of money on colleges if you don't know what you want your life goal to be. Try some different things, make some money, I'm sure it will work out of you.
Anyway, I need to go. Thanks for making this thread Rose bud!! This is a really neat idea!

Oh wow Silverwaxwing, that's a lot of stuff XD. I'm into science and art so, yeah. I know that is not specific at all... I like quantum physics and philosophy and I'm getting more interested in biohemistry and biotechnology. Doctor Who, have you heard about genetically engineered cells to fight cancer? They basically just edit cells so that the cells go and destroy cancer. It's so simple, it's genius. Oh, and I like making pencil and charcoal art and I'm starting to use digital more, too.

I've wanted to be a teacher for a long time, but now I'm not sure if that's what I want to do. Some days I think it would be great, others I start daydreaming about other possibilities. It's hard to imagine anything else at this point because it's been my dream job for so long, but I'm starting to question myself. I love playing the flute and personaly I think I'm really good at it, so sometimes I think about doing something music related, but the chances of me being able to make a living off of music are probably pretty low. So pretty much I'm still deciding what I want to be. Thanks for reading my sort of rant. :)

Oh, and I forgot... I really want to own a bookstore, but not a big chain like Barnes & Noble, one of those local cozy ones, mabye in New Hampsire or someplace like that. I would love to own the kind of bookstore that I love to go to so much! So at the momnet that is my dream job, but I would probably need a different job first so I could earn enough money to buy my bookstore.

I'd like to be an animator, although I'm not quite sure. I'll definitely write as a hobby - I couldn't imagine giving something like that up. Speaking of which, I should try to plan a NaNo novel -

My friend Peyton is obsessed with being a pilot. He knows that that's exactly what he wants to do. He's been studying to be a pilot already, and he's only in 9th grade. He's flown planes. He is OBSESSED. But he can't be a pilot. He's color blind. Isn't that terrible?!
(October 25, 2017 - 11:49 pm)
I'm sorry if this is a stupid ignorant question, but how does being color blind keep someone from being a pilot?
I would think because they have to see various colored signal lights on runways and control panels.

I want to be a Biological Engineer, or start an enviroment-friendly Interior Design company. I wish I had a job, but the only place I could have possibly ever gotten a job at (Because, you know, most people won't hire a thirteen year old) closed.

Artist, no question. Multimedia. Fabulously wealthy and influential, too, of course. Also possibly owner of several islands, including an artificial eco-friendly one I make myself, a cat or two and a snake, at least one mansion with full library and rooftop stuff, a few nature preserves, and vast quantities of art supplies of most varieties. Definitely awesome crazy aunt and philanthropist.
