TX/LA Flooding!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

TX/LA Flooding!

TX/LA Flooding!

I am still kinda on a break right now, but I wanted to get this shared. There is sooo much on the news that is awful, but a lot of it is too dark to share here. The one thing I wanted to point out is the massive, record breaking, will-be-a-historical-event, flood in Texas. Not only that, but as of yesterday, it was announced that western Louisiana is being affected. Fortunately, the deaths have been very low (9 people last I checked, 6 of those due to a family member only caring for himself). Yet people are having to be flown out and rescued. The navy is getting involved now, I read from BBC this morning.

If you are in or near these flooded areas, please stay safe! You all are in my thoughts. As for everyone else, please keep thinking about Texas and Louisiana, all the people.

As a note, this hurricane hit Friday, and now according to BBC the slow moving path will end up hitting as far as KY by 1:00 on Saturday. Cedar Bayou, TX, alone has reached a little over 4.3 feet of water (about 1.318 meters).

So PLEASE, please, keep these people in your thoughts. All I can think of are all those people, including some I know of (Youtubers and such, but still true, true people).

And again, if you are in this, please be safe.

I live in one of the flooded states, though I'd rather not state (haha...) which. I appreciate this thread, Ashlee. Our city hasn't been hit very badly so far, and I think we will be ok. But my aunt, uncle and 5 cousins live in TX. They lost, erm, toilet privliges, shall we say, which is hard with three 3 year olds...

They're fine though. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone in an affected area. Stay safe. <3

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! At least you are all safe, that is good. (Nice pun you had xD). Gosh, I will be thinking about your family in TX, I know they'll be safe. Fortunately, the storm is slowly moving out of TX (so sorry to all those outside of the state though! D:)

I heard! How terrible. I live in KY, so we are actually getting hit with a LOT of rain, which I'm kinda upset about because rain makes me gloomy. But yes, I will definitely keep these people in my thoughts and prayers. I also heard a news story where a man was driving away from the hurricane and rescued a dog in the road. So please remember to also keep all the animals that were abandoned in the flooding while people evacuated in your thoughts and prayers as well.

Oh, you dislike rain? I love it! But not that much where it causes flooding. Yes, yes, I heard that story too! I also watched a video on BBC where a bunch of citizens stopped after seeing an elderly man stranded on the roof of his car. They all made a human chain through like 4-5 feet of water and rescued him! Goodness, made me realize people are better than they seem at times...

Yeah, I know a lot of people love the rain, but I don't for some reason. I guess it just makes me gloomy, like I said before. I love the sunshine. But not so much to where it's really hot.

Wow! That's amazing! Yeah, definitely.

Yes, prayers for all of those affected by the flood. ^^

My dad is from Texas, and the entire side of his family lives in Texas. I think they're okay though.

Oh, I'm sorry about hearing that! Glad they are safe though. Fortunately, the community in TX is super strong right now, so things should be okay in the end.

Oh, I heard there was going to be a storm there a few days ago, a really really bad one, but I didn't follow up on it. I wish there was something I could do...

Yeah, the hurricane (biggest in the past 50 years) hit Friday and is affecting all the way up to KY. Totally understand the feeling of wanting to help. I mean, the most I know of is donating. Facebook has a big donating button. There are probably websites too.

ANNOUNCEMENT @ EVERYONE

Sorry for caps, had to get your attention. So the announcement to me is really important for me. I have both good and bad news relating to the hurricane.

Good News:

I was watching a BBC video (rarely watch vids, but this looked good). An elderly man had got stranded on the roof of his car, surrounded by rushing 4-5 feet of water. A group of citizens fleeing the waters stopped and made a massive human chain to rescue him. A good 15-20 people. See, I love seeing that people have hearts for others (usually).

Bad News:

To me, this is super important, yet it doesn't relate to the flood. I was naive in thinking that "Oh, US is suffering so much right now! We have TX and LA with floods." Which IS true, and I care deeply about those affected. Little panic surge every time I read BBC about the hurricane. But there is something also really terrifying for me related to weather. India. See, I have some good friends who live in India - fellow bloggers, and a good friend of mine who's a photographer. I saw an article on BBC saying something like "Is the US too worried about Harvey?". I thought that was ridiculous, but it turns out we should be equally worried about India. Being Monsoon season, they are being hit with massive floods and mudslides. In the Mumbai Financial District alone, 100 people died in the past few months in building collapses. Why? The mudslides/flooding weaken their already poor quality buildings. Fortunately, my friends in India are safe. But it's a big country, and I cannot help but feel bad for those there...

So please, for everyone, keep both TX/LA AND India in your thoughts. Also, do you guys know anywhere else being affected by storms right now? Maybe we can add them to the list.

Thank you for making this thread, Ashlee! My grandma's Goddaughter (so like, my godaunt.) live in Texas. We haven't heard from them yet, but I think (HOPE!) they are okay.

Hoping and wishing that all of you and the people in TX/LA and India and other afflicted countries/states/areas are okay.

You are welcome, Silver! Sorry, it's off track but Goddaughter? Never heard of that before! But yeah, I think and hope she will be okay. Fortunately, they didn't call evacuation because otherwise there would be more trouble. Lots more. So at least they didn't have evac! She'll be okay, I think.
