The Chicken or
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
The Chicken or
The Chicken or the Egg!
What came first, the chicken or the egg? I have had this discussion many times with my friends and family, and I always say the same thing. Remember, be polite and respectful. We may never know the answer to this question for sure, but let's try and figure out a logical explanation using everybody's ideas.
I believe the egg came first. Actually, it depends how you look at it. Some form of chicken did lay they egg, but not the chicken we see today. You see, chickens evolved over thousands, if not millions, of years, they did not just pop up some day from the ground. Every hundreds of years or so, there would be a slight developement in the ancestors of the chickens. Maybe a shorter wing, or a blunter beak, maybe a more domestic personality. Then, slowly but surely, the chicken is formed. That is how all evolution works. So, after millions of years of evolution, the "hen" which is ever so near the chicken that we keep in our gardens and on farms, lays an egg which is born as a chicken.
*snores with head on elbow*
Sooo, the chicken came first?
No, the egg! Weren't you listening?
But LilyPad, you see, there had to be a chicken to lay the egg in the first place! Understand?
Ugggggh! *face palms*
So, that's just my belief. What's yours? Even Sapphire is entitled to her own opinions. Have fun!

This really isn't that hard of a question. The egg came first. Like you said, evolution.

I agree. But whenever I say that to my friends they just say. "Yeah, but there has to be a chicken to lay the egg in the first place!"
*sigh*
Anyway, how are you, Danie? I haven't seen you around for a while.

Oh my gosh, this question used to drive me CRAZY! But now, I'm older and I know more, and I agree with Lily and Danie.
(May 8, 2017 - 4:55 pm)
Egg, like you guys said.

A circle has no beginning! Thank you, Luna Lovegood!
I'm Christian, so I can't say I agree with Evolution, but I'm not going to attack your beliefs. I don't do that to any belief, although it isn't mine.
Christians believe that God created animals on...I'm sorry, I don't remember the day, I can never get the days right. We also believe that Adam was given permission to name them all, and I don't think that Adam would have named an egg, but also the problem is that the egg might have had time to hatch....hmm...

Hey Icy, I just read your post and I wanted to say thanks for very calmly stating that you disagree with the statement above. I really appreciate your maturity in your comment.

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to say that people who speak their mind to the best extent are immature, (and I'm sorry if you take it that way, it truly wasn't meant like that.) I believe they're mature in their own way. Here, I am complimenting Icy.
(May 8, 2017 - 9:26 pm)
The egg, obviously. Dinosaurs laid eggs before chickens existed.
(May 8, 2017 - 7:46 pm)
*snorts* What came first? The phoenix or the fire?
(May 8, 2017 - 9:35 pm)
I too agree with Icy. However, because I am a Christian and my beliefs are different than some of yours, my answer is different from yours.
I do believe the chicken came first.
In Genesis, God made the animals, and like Icy said, told Adam to look over them. I think that one of the animals already made was a chicken, and from there, the chicken layed an egg, and so on so forth.
So the chicken was already made by God. ^^

Egg, of course, since dinosours laid eggs long before there were chickens!

Okay, so my feelings on evolution are a whole NOTHER story... long story short, yes, I believe in it, even though I'm an Episcopalian.
Okay, so if I'm going to explain my reasoning behind the egg-or-chicken theory, I need to explain my "Evolution" views in hopes that it won't offend anyone... I'd also just like to say that whichever side we take, we can both be right...
Having said that, here goes.
I believe in evolution, even though I am a Christian. It makes total sense on a science level. How it makes sense to me on a Christian level is that, yes, I believe that God created the Universe, Earth, Night and Day, Animals, plants, et cetera in six days. Six "God Days". We, as humans, tend to assume that that meant six Earth spins, Earth Days. Isn't it possible for God to have a different sense of time than we do? Isn't it possible that what God might perceive as days, we would perceive as Eras? Eons? Periods of time so long we physically cannot comprehend how big they are?
Going with that theory, I believe that the egg came first--because God created dinosaurs first, and dinosaurs laid eggs. Ergo, the egg came first--before chickens had even evolved. After all, birds evolved from dinosaurs...
(Speaking of dinosaurs, have any of you seen Jurassic Park?)
Now that I've probably offended everyone with my theology/science views, I'm going to sign off...
-Nianad
P.S. I think it was either that, or Luna Lovegood was right... maybe we're all looking at the question too hard, and trying to reason it out from our scientific or theological perspectives. Maybe it is a circle that has no beginning.
(May 8, 2017 - 11:47 pm)
Exactly. I'm Presbyterian, and I completely agree with you, Nianad. I have tried to explain this, but haven't been able to have it actually make sense.
(Luna Lovegood is awesome!) :-)
(May 9, 2017 - 9:22 pm)
My beliefs (as a Catholic) are the same as Nianad's. I think the egg came first, because I believe in evolution.

Oh, I really like hearing about other people's beliefs and opinions. I am sorry, looking back it seems that I am saying by not agreeing with my statement you are immature. I am so sorry if I made anybody feel that way, I seriously didn't mean it like that. Thanks, everyone for stating your opinion in a kind and polite way.
(May 9, 2017 - 12:52 am)
I believe in evolution, but I respect Icy's (and everyone else's) beliefs. But in my opinion, the egg came first, because a dinosaur laid the egg, out of that came a chicken-like dino, which then had eggs which became even more chicken-like dinos... I think you get what I'm saying.
