Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Does anyone want

Does anyone want to talk about animal testing?  In my opinion, it is terribly cruel, unnecessary, and ineffective.  Please write in.

"I think animal testing is a terrible idea. They get all nervous and give silly answers!"

Har, har, har.  Okay.  But what do you really think?

Honestly? I think humans are going to come up with ways to be cruel no matter what. It's sad, but that's the way it is.

Don't think like that.  There are ways to make sure animals don't suffer in experiments.  Humans don't need to be cruel.  If people think they can't do anything, nothing will get done.  If everyone stood up for what they believed in, the world would be a better place.  But everyone thinks they are just one person on the earth, and what they think doesn't matter.  People are just starting to stand up now.  I'm a vegan.  Paige is a vegetarian.  So are lots of other people.  Everyone can make a difference, including you.

I think animal testing is HORRIBLE!!!!!!  I hate seeing animals being abused, and when I read your article about putting nail polish and shampoo in rabbits' eyes, I was about to cry!  Thank you for speaking up about this topic.  The world needs to know!!

Er...  You're welcome, too!  I'm glad you think so about animal testing.  It's really horrible what some people do to animals.

Hannah, one of the Chatterbox policies is to not post any Web addresses. We can't be resposible for the content of other Web sites; content may not be suitable for young people. We also delete references to any topics we deem not suitable for our youngest Chatterbox users. Some may be as young as 7 or 8. This may be why your reply was edited.

Okay.  I see.  Sorry to be so grumpy.  But I still have one question:  on Beca B.'s thread, you posted the names of other web sites, and even usernames.  Why didn't you edit them?

Hanna, those comments may have been posted by another administrator who was familiar with the Web sites mentioned and knows they are trustworthy. I can't say our policy won't change, but we will always have the right to edit comments before posting them. Thanks for understanding.

Thanks to you too, Cricket!

Anyway, back to the post.  What does everyone think about animal testing?

I've never known much about it, but after reading about the rabbits, I feel so bad! Emily, where can you find nonanimal testing products? I want to buy some now!

Most products that aren't tested on animals have some sort of label on them.  The best ones are the ones with a picture of a leaping bunny rabbit on them, or the ones with a rabbit that has a heart in its ears.  Also look for things that say something like "cruelty free" or "not tested on animals" on them.  This doesn't guarantee that it wasn't tested on animals (Sometimes the company that made the product doesn't test on animals, but the company that made the ingredients does), but it's better then nothing.  PETA has a complete list of all the companies that do and do not test on animals.

Animal testing sounds terrible!!!  I've done some research and I can't figure out why any of it takes place!!!  It's much cheaper, accurate, and ethical to use non-animal testing methods!!!  It doesn't make any sense!!!
