YESSS!!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

YESSS!!

YESSS!!

I have great news! Three great things in fact, so let me list them off:

1. I am now homeschooled. Remember when I published my letter on here about the mistreatment special ed kids are getting? Yeah, that's the school I left, and I am so beyond happy, although that doesn't mean I still won't fight for fair treatment. The main reason I left is academic because I need the best academics possible for my future.

2. I GOT PUBLISHEDDDD! Not for anything major, but I sent a bunch of my poems to different literary magazines and I finally got accepted into one - Canvas Literary Journal. I didn't get into CICADA, and I won't hear back from Rattle until the end of the year, but I am literally bursting with joy. This is one step closer to being a published author. One. Step. Closer. Sadly, I don't get any awards for Canvas besides a discount, but the recognition is enough for me. I'll share the poem down below.

3. I am now sixteen! Yeah, my birthday was yesterday on the ninth, so I guess that means next year I'll be *gulp* seventeen. Wow, I'm getting old xD

And guess what? My friend made me an epic Hamilton-themed cake. He owns his own baking business and is really talented. The cake was amazing, and tasted amazing too, of course. And I got Lin's Hamilton: A Revolution book and the Hamilton calendar to go with it, among other things. Seriously, I went full out Hamilton geek this year. AND my grandpa is getting me drivers ed, so I can finally drive!

That's my good news for now! I'll share the poem if you guys want in the comments. Time to celebrate!!

Happy Birthday and congratulations. I'm not seeing the poem, however.

Thank you so much, LilyPad! I will keep on trying for sure, I really want to become an actual published author for both poetry, non-fiction, and fiction. It would be absolutely amazing, and with the encouragement, you guys have given me, I know I can make it.

And for being sixteen, I still often put fifteen in the age box! It's just so weird... it'll take some time to adjust to. Thank you again!

Happy (belated) Birthday Ashlee!!

Being homeschooled is amazing, so is being published and turning 16!

I'm so happy for you; being published is amazing! (I hope to be able to be published some day too...) But in the meantime, congrats!

Wow, Joan, I haven't heard from you in forever! And thank you! I have to agree, being homeschooled is quite great. I have actually homeschooled/unschooled almost my entire life, and so we decided it's just the best fit for me and my future.

I know you can get published some day! Just keep on working at it. I've been writing for years, entering in a fair amount of competitions and publications over the last year, it just takes time. I mean, look at J.K Rowling! She was rejected I think 12 times for Harry Potter, and they told her to not quit her day job because she'd never get published. I mean, harsh, and now she's a renowned author! So keep at it, and you'll be published some day. Thanks again!

Happy birthday, Ashlee! Aww, you aren't part of Team Fifteen anymore! I guess I'll have to join you in Team Sixteen in July! Congratulations on getting published, homeschool, and driver's ed! I'm going to take driver's ed this summer.

Hey, nice to see you again, Cockleburr, and thanks! I know, it's a shame I won't be in Team Fifteen anymore. Ah well, you'll be joining in July at least! I am really looking forward to driver's ed, especially because all my friends besides one lives in the town over, which is a 15-mile walk. No, I haven't walked it yet! xD

Thank you, again!

Congratulations on getting published and turning 16! Your poem is quite good. As for being homeschooled, it sounds amazing. I really wish I could be homeschooled, as you get more options and it tends to be less stressful. Also, you don't have to ride public school buses, which I hate. How did you convince your family to let you drive? My parents say they aren't letting my sister and me drive until we're adults, which is looking to be true and not a parental exageration, because there's been no mention of teaching my 16 year old sister how to drive. * Sighs with relief that I'm almost done with the post* I had to write all of this left-handed, as with my right I'm eating a scone.

Whatever I end up naming my captcha said conn. I am too eating a scone, captcha, I'm not some sort of bakery con artist!

Thank you, GreenMango (is Mango an okay nickname?)! Homeschooling is awesome, there are so many opportunities, plus you get to spend time with your family and really focus on your future, hobbies, and future career. I agree, riding buses is so annoying, especially since mine was almost all preschool and kindergarten kids with like three really controlling high schoolers. So I'm glad to not have to deal with that anymore.

As for driving, the only reason I am allowed is because we live in a tiny town with absolutely no work. And since I really want to work and save up money for college, I have to go to one of the two nearest towns, both at least 12 miles walking distance, the other a lot farther than that. So I kinda need a car. The original rule was no car until I was eighteen and on my own. And regardless, I still have to use my parent's car, and I'll be helping pay for everything. But at least I get to drive! And lucky you, getting to eat a scone! I just had a huge dinner at a restaurant (we are on a weekend trip), so I am stuffed.

Thank you, again!
