Video Help!

Hey guys, I need some serious help! My sister and I - BunnyLoves - want to start our own gaming channels, and I need some advice. I know the basics of what I should do, but I literally don't know how to go on about it.

My channel is going to be gaming, all kid-friendly, similar to how DanTDM does his videos. These will be from games on PC, Kindle, Chromebook, etc. And I practiced recording, and get the gist of editing, so I don't think that will be the problem. I also have a name already. And a channel (no vids yet). But I just don't know how to proceed.

Do you guys have any advice?

Another big problem is time. With school and after-school activities, I'll be swamped trying to pre-record five videos on Saturday and Sunday, plus those two videos. A whole week of videos in two days! I mean, I might be able to do a video on either Wednesday or Tuesday, but not both, due to a block schedule we have. So any suggestions with managing time for the channel, too? I really want to do a video a day, and they range from 10-20 minutes per one. If needed, I can consider starting with a video every other day, although I really wish not to do it that way. Oh that rhymed, sorry, put that thought aside. xD

Thanks! You guys were the first and only people I thought of to ask for help on this project.

Yay! I have a YouTube channel and it's so much fun! We do music singing sorts of videos, so I can can't help you with going specific problems, although I still may be of some assistance. How to proceed, just post a video! Make sure you have a profile picture, background, name you're comfortable with, and when you post your first video, a thumbnail, tags, the right category, and a description. When you're posting the video, it will have places where you can click what category the video is (in your case, gaming, in my case music, etc) and places for tags and descriptions. Tags are so important because if anyone googles "gaming videos," well obviously you're not going to have the words "gaming video" in your title, so your video probably won't come up. So you tag it with "gaming video." (Just an example, also you can and should have multiple tags.) I'm pretty sure you know what the description is by now.. As for thumbnails, I have this app called "YouTube Studio" that I highly recommend you get. It lets you see the rate you're getting views and subs, see your comments, look at statistics and stuff, and edit the videos' titles, descriptions, thumbnails, etc after they're already posted. How I make a thumbnail is take a screenshot for the video where I'm smiling and I think it looks okay, then edit text to say the title. If you hit "custom thumbnail" it will let you add it from your camera roll.

As for time, a video everyday may not be good to start out with. My sister and I began with videos only once a week (on Sunday's), but now we post Sunday's, Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's. It's good to have a posting schedule, so people know what to expect, and also, YES prerecording is a magical thing use it's power wisely.. xD anyways, I know gaming channels generally post more often then other types of channels, but it would probably be good to start with only a few days. Another thing you can do is prerecord a bunch of videos that wouldn't be part of series's before you even begin uploading so you have some backups in case you need to post but don't have much time. You'll want to take into consideration that the uploading process can take a while. Anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour is normal, so don't think you film, edit, and then are done with it. Although, if you don't need to use your computer after uploading, you can just leave it to upload in your room while you get stuff done.

I don't know. YouTube is great.

Thanks, Savvy, for all the help! I actually subscribed to your channel a few months ago, you guys do an amazing job. I already have my profile pic and banner made, it's custom created through Picmonkey that I did over the weekend, so it looks really nice. And I have a name picked out that matches what I do.

I'll definitely look into that app! Thumbnails are what were worrying me because as a gamer, I wanted to do a 3D-animated appearance thumbnail, similar to those like Little Kelly and Little Carly (my sister BunnyLoves is obsessed with them). For creating mine to actually look like that, I'll probably use an animation program and just create one frame as a thumbnail, which saves me having to buy photoshop. But I suppose each kind of video has a different style! For music, it makes sense to do it your way, by using a picture.

As for posting a few days a week, I'll probably have to take you up on that suggestion! I am swamped right now, there is no physical way - even prerecording - that I could do all that until spring break and summer. And even then... Again, a different genre of video means different requirements, therefore at some point, I really should be doing daily. But until then, I'll probably create my schedule as every other day, which knocks down my prerecording by half. And as for series, I am doing a collaboration with BunnyLoves on two separate series, so those will have to be a little different on the schedule. But your suggestions will help a lot! And I have to agree with prerecording! I will definitely use that to my advantage.

And I know uploading takes some time, I tested a ten-minute long video just to see, and it was about 30 minutes before it was ready. So yeah, it'll take some time. But I do think it'll be worth it!

And Admins, how come you removed the word xxxx from the title and within my actual post? I understand if it's not allowed, I just remember seeing it from others.

It  shouldn't  appear . We  don't  encourage  anyone  to  go  to  any  site  over  which  we  have  no  control .

Okay, that's understandable, Admin. I had a feeling that might have been the reason why.

I'm also trying to create a channel that will have speedcoding and speedpaints for Scratch and later for Javascript.

That's cool! I know a bit of coding, but I am definitely not confident enough to do a whole channel on it. And speed paints are awesome as well. Good luck and have fun with it!

Could you tell us for what we should search in YouTube to find your channel, please? I'd love to watch your videos!
