Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Let me take

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to strawberry fields!

Or I could be coming to this thread!

So, I've seen a lot of talk (myself included) about people not knowing all the CBers around. And I realized a simple way to fix this. Yep, this is the official GET TO KNOW YOU CHAT THREAD!

Anyone can post here, from people who've been on the CB for years and years to those who joined a week ago. All are welcome, as I'd love to get to know as many of you as I can!

Here are the rules.

On your first post on this thread, start with a summary of yourself. Talk about anything! How old you are, if you play an instrument, how many siblings you have, what your favorite color is-- the possibilities are endless.

Every couple of days, I'll post a topic question. Then we respond to it with our answer, and discuss it, exchanging opinions and stories!

NUMBER ONE RULE: DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT WOULD DISRESPECT ANOTHER PERSON. This is not a debate thread. If you disagree with what someone has said, state your opinion politely or inquire why they said what they did. If they don't want to talk about it, don't push them. This is a getting-to-know-you, not a find-every-fault-in-your-reasoning.

I'll kick it off!

As most of you know, I'm St.Owl. I'm twelve-- thirteen in March-- and in seventh grade. I live in NYC and I have a little brother who will most likely be eleven by the time this is posted. I also have the most adorable husky mix by the name of Bluebell who will have spent a full year with us come March. I play the piano and sing, and I've been promised violin lessons, hopefully to come soon. My favorite bands/artists are probably the Beatles, The Head and the Heart, Regina Spektor, The Punch Brothers, David Bowie, and Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. And, last but not least, I'm currently in my third year with the CB!

Here's our first question:

What did you do on Valentine's Day? Even if you just got a bunch of candy from your classmates or hung up some velvet hearts, tell me about it! Maybe you were lucky and spent time with that special someone, or perhaps you just got a lovely valentine from a good friend.

I'm rambling, so . . . type away!

A girl pauses for a breath in the middle of a nerd/fangirl rant about a book she loves. Her brown eyes shine with obvious passion for whatever book she's talking about, and her rapid, mile-a-minute speech shows just how good the book is.

I'm Mei. I'm twelve, just like St, and in seventh grade, just like St. I am Asian-American, and I care a lot about social issues. I want to be an activist, and you'll see me posting many quotes from Malala, who spoke up for Pakistani girls' rights. I'm the fiery type. I chose the House of Slytherin for my high expectations and my protectiveness of the House, even though the quizzes I take want me in Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor; almost never Slytherin. I love books too much, almost to the extreme. I play the clarinet, I dance, and I'm starting wushu soon. I love the CB, and I've recently returned. I go to a very difficult school, and I recently got straight-As, (INCLUDING GYM OMG), which is a huge accomplishment.

Today, I did receive valentines, but I also had a math contest today. I'm more of the English type of gal, but the problems were so fun to solve! I'm going for a George Lenchner Award, and only a few hundred kids in the world are awarded it every year. (Hey, I told you, I'm a Slytherin!) I'm corssing my fingers . . .

Also, one of the most hated kids in the school gave my (extremely pretty) friend a love letter. It was so sappy! Drama, drama, drama!

Hi. As most of you know, I'm elementgirl. I am 10years, 4months, 4weeks, 19hours, 1 minute, and 23 seconds old, and in 4th grade at my school. As you can probably see above, I like to be very precise about things. I live in a small town in RI, and I have a sister who is 6 1/2, and a little baby brother who is only 10 months old. I have a black lab and a mynah bird for pets, and I like reading a LOT. I also like science, acting, and competitive sailng, which I am soon to be in my 6th year of, and absolutely love. I have been on the CB for *checks watch* 47 days and counting. If I could find my first ever post, I could tell you the exact, but I can't find it xD.

Yesterday, I went skiing... I got exactly 30 candy hearts from my teacher... and a lot of other random things from my class.

Love this thread idea, St!

I'm about one of the weirdest kids you'll meet. Besides one of my best friends, anyways. I am OBSESSED with Hamilton, call me Hamiltrash if you want (that's what Hamilton fans are called). I can't sing, but I still rap Guns and Ships (Hamilton) everyday to improve my skills. I sing in my head, out loud, when I am waiting for the bus, all day long. I love singing, and since practice makes perfect, I hope I end up improving.

I love dancing, although that's another thing I am really bad at. Especially after seeing the trailer to the Hamilton broadway, I was like, "this is the coolest thing ever!" and wanted to learn how to dance. I don't do lessons, I just dance whenever, or sometimes just do motions with my hands if it is an inappropriate time to be dancing.

I know a bit of Spanish! And a few words in Dutch and Latin. The reason being is I really want to travel the world someday and make a difference. The only way I can do that is knowing how to communicate with people. The reason I was starting to learn Dutch is because one of my favorite singers a few years ago is Dutch and speaks the language on a regular basis. Once again, I got inspired and wanted to do that too.

I LOVE reading and writing, but sadly I don't have enough time anymore. I usually read sci fi, but when I was younger I was more into fantasy. My all time favorite series is Harry Potter, but The Diary of Anne Frank has a special place in my heart too.

I am a very diverse individual. As in, I accept anyone. I don't judge anyone off of their looks, ethnicity, religion, beliefs, styles, gender, etc. I mean, I am friends with all sorts of people, both online and in real life.

I have four younger siblings, I will be sixteen in April, and I go to a school in a tiny town of four hundred. My school is a Pre-K through 12th and has about 120 kids altogether, and only about 40 in 7th-12th. My class is combined of our three freshmen and 7-8ish sophomores. The reason I say that is because one kid is still in Georgia and has been gone for a little over a month. And one is a foreign exchange student. So yeah, the numbers are a little up in the air for those reasons.

And finally, I love the color blue (any shade) and a blue/black combo in clothes. I love animals, the environment, nature, everything. I am also a MAJOR gamer, with first and third person shooters, indies, arcades, adventures, everything. I play pretty much any game or system you give me. And as the last note: I've been here since either summer of 2012 or 2013 (I believe 2013) and I went under the name of PandaGirl AND Ashlee G. at the same time to confuse people. Apparently, it was a prank that went on for a while. And I then went off and on the CB up until this time. I knew everyone: BHR, True, Joe, Butterfly, Violet, everyone. I've been through every war, friendship, and good times the CB has experienced. And I promise I will stick around so I can continue to be inspired by you amazing group of CBers!

Answer to Question:

I did nothing for Valentine's Day, mainly because I am in high school so it's kinda strange to be giving/receiving cards and things from other high schoolers. And our family sees it as a consumer's holiday for stores (no offense to anyone) so we don't do anything to celebrate it. Occasionally we'll get a box of candy or whatnot, but not this year. Although I did get a gummy bracelet from one of my friends, candy from one of my teachers, and skittles from this 8th grader who was kind enough to bring enough candy for everyone. But alas, I did not do anything to celebrate, and I didn't have anything to give either.

Awa, this is sweet, St!

I'm Claaws, been on here for almost a year (in March!) I started at Kyngdom, and I am 14 and a half and a month (yes, I know I'm getting to the point where I'm too old for this...)....er....I get to start my drivers permit in....*checks time* OMK AS SOON AS I GET BACK FROM VACATION! *screams* *clears throat* anyway, I am a freshmen, I go to my local High school, oh I have an adorible pure bread siberian huskey named Bella! I also have one extreamly annoying little brother who is 11, and better at me at everything (except writing dancing and drawing!) I love to dance write and draw, but I strained my IT band (yes it is called that and the thingy that goes down the side of your leg) early in the season so I had to stop. I was also doing rugby at the time. Yes, i am very athletic, but not these past five months cause of my stupid leg. I wouldnt say im doing....well...in school grade wise....I live somewhere in Colorado, I get really bad migrains, um....oh and I love to skii and learning to snowboard!

My dad took my family to Paris! The Hotel! In Vegas! Ya, it wasnt that much fun. Too much smoking and gambling around, my head still hurts from all that. *sighs* Its the thought that counts, right?

*Wide-eyed* Claaws, you sound just like one of my friends! Almost. See, someone I know is a Freshman, and cannot do sports because of a knee injury. And he used to live in Colorado. That's just weird! How was Paris? I've always wanted to visit there.

Hey, great idea, St! I'm Booksy, I'm 15 and a freshman in high school. I live in California and spend most of winter wishing for snow. I am rather shy, quiet, and introverted, and a total nerd. I love, love, love to read, expecialy classics. I'm a proud Janeite! I write mostly realistic fiction and poetry but I have been trying to experiment with a little historical fiction lately. I am pretty ambitious and have a bunch of plans and goals for the future - mostly unrealistic. I like listening to piano and some older music, and my favorite artists are Yiruma, Sting, and ABBA. And my second CBversary is in March!

On Valentines, I did nothing out of the ordenary, except for maybe let the romantic side of me run wild a little and dream... Eh. My friend gave me a really pretty mug, though! I feel bad now because I didn't get her anything.

Hi, everyone!

I just made a similar thread right next too this one called the CB Sleepover Party (feel free to join)! Anyway, I joined the Chatterbox maybe a week before Element Girl did, but I can't be bothered to work it out. Anywho, I live in Australia, so for me, Valentines day was yesterday. My primary school doesn't really celebrate Valentines day, but that didn't stop me from making a few decorations.....

I love soccer, musical theatre and singing, and plan to do them all professionaly one day. Im also thinking about doing kung fu lessons....

This is an awesome idea for a thread, St Owl! Anyway, Ive got to go school starts in.....five minutes!

Allons-y! I'm Ember, the super geek, nerd, dreamer, aspiring artist and writer, Young Justice super fan, hopeful companion to the Doctor, comic reader, regular book reader, manga reader, and anime activist.

Yes, I am a strange person, but I wear that title with pride. Another VERY important thing about me is my obsession with music. I like most types of music. The only genres of music I don't like are Country, Jazz, Classical, and the Blues. Some of my favorite bands/songs which change practically every week are Fall Out Boy, any Nightcore remix, Partners in Crime by Set it Off, Imagine Dragons, Papa Roach, and I am currently obsessed with American Authors' new album. As you can see, I have a wide range of music.

Anyway, I love to read and write and draw, those taking up most of what little free time I have. I am a Christian and attend church regularly on Sundays and Wednesday nights. I'm also homeschooled and go to a gym class on Mondays with a friend of mine. I also work on Fridays babysitting three little girls. Other than that, I have a pretty normalize I suppose.

I guess I should include one more thing. My mom has cronic migraines, which means once she gets in a migraine cycle, my dad and I do most of the stuff at home that needs to get done. Dad and I share the chores, I make meals, and that's how we do. It's kinda hard sometimes, but I'm not going to go into details on this thread. I also have been starting to get migraines. Not surprising, since my mom's whole side of the family has them.

Ok and for the question: a card from one of my best friends. She drew a picture of me as well for me. And my mom made cookies for my dad and me. Alright that's definitely long enough. Sorry it's so long, I can't seem to shut myself up sometimes.

And, I'm back... Sorry! But I forgot to say that I'm thirteen, fourteen in May, and I'm in eight grade. I have a black lab and a beta fish that is pretty much dead. Ok, I'm done now. Bye! *slinks away* *pops back in* Oh, and Stay Whelmed! *Cue Young Justice theme music.* *Runs out of view like a cartoon character*

Cool thread!

I started answering your questions and then I couldn't stop talking...whoops...

I'm a teenager. I would say I play the piano adequately, but what I truly love is singing. I had a vocal injury a few years ago which has made it difficult to sing as much as I would like to. The doctors don't know exactly what happened, but they sent a tiny camera down my nose and into my throat (ew!) and my vocal cords are swollen and unhappy.

I have a younger brother named Adam, and he's basically my best friend. We're both quiet kids in public. He will never answer the question "how was your day?" properly, but he's kind and compassionate. And he will beat you in Harry Potter trivia.

My favorite color is blue. It was when I was five, it is now, and it will be when I am seventy-three.

A few other random facts: My favorite band is Twenty One Pilots. I'm sensitive, inside and out. I love sappy movies - if they're just the right kind of sappy, that is.

I didn't really plan anything for Valentine's Day, but I liked walking around school and watching people give things to each other. It's always nice to see love in the air instead of hate. And that evening, when I was least expecting it, I received a red velvet cucpake and a card from my youth leaders from church. It was so sweet that I was overwhelmed and started crying. No one was surprised though, because I cry pretty often.

Sorry that was so very long. I like hearing about all of you. Keep commenting!

My name is ***** I'm 15 (though i act like I'm 12) and I live in Hawaii. (no, not joking) I have two cats, one of which is totally evil and the other is the wimpiest thing on earth. I also have a veeeeeery old chihuahua named Chloe who smells terrible. I have a little brother who is a few years younger than me. I have been playing violin since I was three.

I absolutely adore peter pan (the origional story, not Disney) and I am a proud Slytherin. I also really like the Luck Uglies, and Artemis Fowl. I am a huge Sherlock fan and i also enjoy Doctor Who. I absolutely LOVE dragons. My room is full of dragon models, books, and artwork. I am still waiting for my hogwarts letter (it just got stuck in the mail)

I really like Billy Joel and my favorite song of his is Piano Man. I like playing fiddle music and have a sticker on my violin case that says "Violinist by day, Deadly Ninja by night." My motto for life is "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup." I also have a sticker that says "beware of invisible cows," though I'm not quite sure where it came from... should I be worried?

Let's see... as you all know, my name is The Riddler. I am the second oldest person in eighth grade at my school and am older than a few very young ninth graders (no I have never stayed back a year I get straight A's.) I am a big dog person and I have a golden retreiver named Daisy. I have an extreme passion for Hamilton and I love In the Heights, Wicked, Matilda, and pretty much anything on Broadway. I, like Mei, want to be an activist. Math makes me weirdly happy, and I love English and History as well. I do Cross Country as my main sport and I join my school's Ultimate Frisbee team in the spring. I've grown up all over the world and I want to travel to as many countries as I can. I used to be completely fluent in Spanish when I was eight-ish (I lived in Bolivia) but then I moved away and have to re-learn it. I also want to be fluent in French, Mandarin, and Swahili. I am currently obsessed with the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan (I'm on book 11) and my favourite character by far is Gilan (followed by Halt.) My friends and I are "the weird group" and it's so much fun - we've determined that the world is going to end by a combination of worms with tye dye name tags that were misspelled to say "wolves," mutant beavers, and Peppa Pig.

Yikes, I'm also supposed to be memorizing a Spanish presentation! I have to go.
