Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I was wondering

I was wondering if anyone on the CB does martial arts? Post if you take Karate, Aikido, Jujitsu, or any other self defence class. I thought it would be cool to find out.

I do!! I've been taking ho shin do for nine years now, and I'm a first-degree black belt in it. (ho shin do is a lesser known form of martial arts. It's Korean, and basically just self-defense). Aaaaand I've been taking jui-jitsu for one year or so I think (still a white belt). All three of my brothers are black belts, too. My oldest brother is a first-degree black belt like me, though (there's a difference between ordinary black belt and first degree, btw)

I also have a job as an instructor at the karate studio. The kids are adorable!! I actually just got back from karate tonight where I was there for like three hours!

What martial arts do you do, Nebula? This is cool thread! Top!

I do Aikido, and have for 8 years. I assistant teach a kids class and go to adults classes. I'm going to test for third kue soon (hopefully). In Aikido, we count down kues from 9 to one and then up dans from one to... whatever. Honestly, though, I'm not great at Aikido, and I don't really love it. I think I'm too shy for it, to be honest.

I take Monkey Kung Fu and Serak.

Monkey is cool because we can fight standing up, or down on all fours. I know it sounds wierd, but it is really cool to be able to kick someone's head off from down on the ground. It also focuses more on distraction and tecniques. You dont have to be strong, just fast enough to get your thumbs in their eyes, or get in a good hit on a nerve cluster. I have been taking it for about five years.

serak is a little known martial art that is purely for self defence. It is really brutal and there is no belt system. It is not like usual martial arts because, instead of blocking a punch and countering with a kick or something, serak will get the wrist in a joint lock, hit the person in the temple, then twist down and crack the spine. It is kind of gruesome and I havent been doing it for long.

I take Shotokan karate with my two sisters. I'm a first degree green belt.

Well, I don't do any martial arts now, but when I was 3 I took karate. I quit as a Blue Belt, at age six.

Yeah, I moved up pretty quickly. I started off as a "Little Ninja" and had to progress through all their double-striped belts until I finally got a white belt (thank goodness!) and then went from there until a blue belt, when I quit because I was only six and couldn't remember any of the forms. (I just progressed by watching other kids do it first and then copying what they did. Not the most honest way of learning.)
