Alright! Time to RP!

Me~

I wave to my mom as she pulls away from the camp in our big blue minivan, then gulp as a wave of the homesickness that I always get washes over me. Then I heft my purple backpack onto my shoulder and walk down the path to the camp gate.

It's a big wooden gate, with the words "Camp CB" painted on it in big blue letters. I look up as I pass underneath it, so I'm surprised when a voice in front of me says, "Welcome to Camp CB!"

I jerk my head back down to earth. A teenage girl is standing right in front of me.

My eyes wander over her. She's wearing a green t-shirt with the Camp CB logo (a cricket) on it, and her brown hair is pulled into a long, messy braid. A nametag on her shirt says that her name is Janette.

"My name's Janette, although I guess you don't really need to know that. Camp protocol, though." She giggles. "Anyway, I'm going to be your cabin leader! And wait--don't ask. Your cabin is right over there." She points to the left of the gate.

I had been to busy scrutinizing her to observe the rest of the camp, so I look over to where she's pointing.

Right outside the gate, the path splits into four parts, with a signpost handily standing right there at the fork. One sign says 'LAKE' in big blocky letters, one says 'Campfire' in cursive, another says 'Library' in something resembling Comic Sans, and the last one says 'Cabins' in small spiky letters.

"I like the sign!" I tell Janette. I'm suddenly aware of the hot sun on my back. It's kind of...hot. I'm glad there's a lake here.

Janette smiles. "Thanks. Camp CB is all about creativity, so we wanted signs that were creative and artsy. Now, do you want to see your cabin?" I nod. She beckons me to follow her, then takes the path that's farthest to the left and strides off down it.

"You're the first person here! What an advantage. You get to pick your bed first." She gives me a cheery grin. "And here we are! Cricket Cabin. You'll be staying here! Now, if you excuse me, I have to go back to the gate. I think I see some more campers coming in.... Oh, by the way, once everyone has arrived we'll tour the whole camp and meet the rest of the councilors. But for now, just get settled in!" She waves her hand and walks back up to the gate, her braid bouncing behind her.

I look examine the cabin. It's one story, with a fresh coat of yellow paint that hardly looks like it's been weatherbeaten at all. A sign over the door proclaims, "Cricket Cabin" in cheery green lettering. I walk up the short flight of steps and push the door open.

Immediately I click with the surroundings. A row of beds with green quilts is on the wall to my right, and on the left are desks. The far wall has a reading area with blue and green beanbags and bookshelves stuffed full of books.

I sigh with relief as I hook my backpack off my bag and set it down on the floor. I'll unpack later. Right now, I head over to the reading area and sit down on a beanbag with a plunk, intending to check out the books, but then I suddenly feel terribly homesick again and curl up, hugging my knees to my chest and trying my best to not let out the tears that are threatening to burst.

~~~
Apologies, I did not edit this at all! I am kind of pressed for time right now. I'll try to edit further RPing here, though.
I grin at my parents.  I'll be fine.  I tried to silently convey that message to them.  But when they both go in for a hug, I lean against them and stay that way for a minute or two.  I was going to miss them.  Then they pulled away and got into the Subaru station wagon.  I stare after the car, watching it until it disappeared down the winding road.  Then I wave, even though I know that they can't see me.  I shake my head, trying to clear these sad thoughts.  This summer was going to be fun!
I hoist my backpack onto my shoulders and pick up my two duffel bags.  I almost fall over.  They're so heavy!  One is full of books.  I manage to get a grip and with a good deal of efffort, walk down the dusty dirt path to the big wooden gate declaring the camp's name in large blue letters.  A young woman pops up in front of me.  She has brown hair that's in a long brown braid and is wearing the Camp CB counseler uniform; a green t-shirt with a cricket on it.
"Hi!"  She gives me a big smile.
"Hello."  I smile back, but I can tell that my smile is wobbly and half-hearted.
I look at her nametag.  Her name is Janette.  "I'm Janette!"  she chirps.  I'll be your cabin leader!  She looks at all of my bags.  "Do you need any help?"
I nod.  I'm in no position to decline help.  She grabs the heaviest one and hoists it onto her shoulder with ease.
"What's your name?"  she prompts.
I bite my lip and mentally chastise myself.  I shouldn't have to be reminded to introduce myself! I'm normally not so shy, but this is a new place far away from home, and I've never been so far away from home without at least one of my parents.  I've also never been away from my parents for two whole months.  "Echo."
Janette tilts her head.  "Huh?"
"That's my name."
"Oh."  She smiles again and resumes her spiel.  "You're the second one here!  Follow me to your cabin."  I follow her, not even stopping to take in my surroundings.  I have the whole summer to do that.  Right now I just want to get to my cabin.
Janette seems to sense that I'm not in a talkative mood.  "Here's your cabin.  You can settle in now, I'll be at the gate."
Over the door there's a sign with the name of my cabin in yellow letters.  "Cricket Cabin."  I walk in and glance around me.  It looks great!  I smile, but this time it's for real.  There's a girl on one of the bean bags.  She has her knees pulled up to her chest and looks like she's about to cry.
"Hi."  I say, but decided to leave her alone; the last thing I would want is a stranger trying to comfort me and deduce why I was crying.  She was probably just homesick, like me.  I plopped my things next to my bed, to unpack later.  The library looked inviting, but I didn't want to bother the girl, and I had plenty of my own books to read.  I unzipped the backpack, and took out a favourite, Jane Eyre to read until we recieved further instruction.  As I curled up against my pillow, on the comfy bed, I almost felt as if I was home again.
I watch my parents pull away from the curb and I grasp the handles (is that what they're called?) of my backpack tighter than I ever had before. I've never been to a sleep awy camp before in my life. This ought to be interesting.
I run up to what seems to be the main buiding lugging my two bags behind me and  am greeted by a young woman with a bright smile.
"I'm Janette," she says, "And you?"
I tell her my name, and then add
"But most people call me either 'Embers' or 'Ashes'. You know, depending on my mood."
"That's an- interesting name."
"I know it's a bit odd," I respond with a smile, "But I have my reasons."
The woman tells me i'm the third person to arrive, so I'll get pretty good dibs on beds. She shows me some of the camp buildings and landmarks- the cabions, the mess hall, the lake. And-
"A library?" I ask, "I love reading, but a library? At a summer camp?"
"We encourage creativity here. Like your name."
I nod and head towards the cabin she says I'm in- Cricket Cabin. I open the door to see one girl crying and another with her face in a pillow.
"Hello there," I say, waving at them. I quickly claim an upper bunk next to a window, but still near the door. I set my stuff on the bare mattress, unzipping my yellow duffel and pulling a flowered sheet out of it. I quickly do the bed, ending by tucking the edges of a Book Club quiltmade by one of my mother's past students into the bed. I then unpack my clothes, books, and other random junk, shoving them in a chest I found under the bed.
elementgirl~
I silently watch as my parents pull away in their car. No, I think to myself. I will not cry. But I do anyway. Suddenly, a girl who looks to be about 18, with a long brown braid, bounces up to me.
"My name is Janette" the bouncy girl tells me "What's yours?"
"Elementgirl" I say.
Janette leads me off, muttering something about strange names. "Well, here we are!" She says at last, opening wide the door to a small cabin. I look in, and see three other girls, all older than me, in varying states of homesickness. I throw my backpack on my bed, and say, "My name is elementgirl. Who are you?" There is a flash of recogniton, across all three faces, then it is gone faster than a lightning strike on a summer day.They introduce themselves as Leafpool, Echo, and Embers in the Ashes. Now it is my turn to be surprised. No.... It couldn't be!
"Well" says Leafpool, changing the subject. "Where are you from?"
"Three guesses" I say. "But you can probably tell by my accent..."
We start talking and laughing like old friends. Which, I later reminded myself, we quite possibly were.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sorry if any charrie control. And yes, I will give all of you three guesses to where I'm from.

@Leafpool,

Where is this camp located?

I hop out of the car and head to the cabins. this was my 5th year at the camp so the councelors know i dont need an intro. I poke my head into my usual cabin. four girls are already there. I dont recognise any of them, it must be their first year.

"Hey!" i say "I'm Nebula. Mind if i take the bunk by the door?"

@Echo, you like sailing too? I thought I was the only one! What kind of boats do you sail? Do you race?

@elementgirl, I don't race, but my dad does.  We own a 1980 Sabre 30 called Aetheria and we sail in the Long Island Sound during the summer a lot.
