TIMED WRITINGS!!!

TIMED WRITINGS!!!

TIMED WRITINGS!!!

(Ugh... )

So, I am trying to get into this science school and am required to do a timed writing prompt on Saturday. I've been practicing writing prompts (this one will most likely be persuasive) over the past few weeks, but I'm still have trouble with them. I have to complete the essay under 30 minutes. What I've mainly been having the most trouble with is the timing. I timed myself today and was able to complete the entire essay except for the conclusion, and the essay wasn't very good anyway because I was rushed. I need help...any thoughts?

By the way, the prompts usually are of the innovation vs. tradition, or motivation vs. practice type.

Well... I wish I could give much advice, but I've never been good at timed activities. The best thing I can say is take your time. That might sound counterintuitive, but it really does help. Don't focus on being timed just write. See how much you get done. And don't make things too lengthy, get to the point. Make things straightforward and proper, and don't focus on the time.

You'll do this great, good luck!

I struggle with this a lot. I need to spend time thinking about things in order to write a good essay! However I have to write a lot of timed essays this year too, so I've become slightly better at it. I advise taking a couple minutes to decide what you really need to say and to organize your ideas in your head (or on a piece of scrap paper if you have any). Then write as quickly and succinctly as you can! Just make sure you get your point across. Since this is a science essay, you'll probably be fine.
