Debate!Do an
Debate!
Do any of you CBers do debate? If so, I have a mini survey:
1. What type of debate do you do?
2. What are some of your favorite topics that you've debated?
3. What are some of your least favorite topics that you've debated?
4. Debate pet peeves?
5. Any advice for debaters?
6. (If any of you do parlimentary debate) What speaker are you?
My answers:
1. I do parlimentary debate!
2. At my last debate tournament, one of the topics was that California should pass Proposition 64, so that was fun to debate. Currently, I'm working on a case for one of the topics, which is that the Dakota Access Pipeline should be continued along the proposed route, and that's a lot of fun too.
3. One of our topics at our last tournament was that professional atheletes should be required to stand for the national anthem, which was really hard to debate. My least favorite topic is probably one that's for my upcoming tournament, which is that California should adopt a universal preschool system.
4. When the other team goes off topic. . .
5. Do your research! You never want to be caught without good evidence. . .
6. I'm a first speaker!
Also, would anyone like to try a debate on this thread? I think I could make it work. . . AHA!. . we could do a Parlimentary style spar (sparring is basically the same thing as debate, except the topics are not real (for example, a topic could be that Santa should lose weight ), and you make up all of your information):
Here's how it works:
There will be three "speakers" per team, and there will be a proposition and an opposition. Every "speaker" should have a hook, three points, and supporting evidence. Every "speaker" besides the first proposition should also have refutations. Basically, you'll write a short-ish speech trying to prove your team's points to the judge (me!)
Quickly, here's a description of the speaker types
First Speakers: Introduce the topic, introduce your team's plan, make your team's case
Second Speakers: Refute the other team's points, strengthen your own team's points
Rebuttalists: Refute the other team's points, strengthen your own team's points, weigh the debate

I don't feel like I'll be able to commit to the debate, so I won't join. But it seems like a cool idea. I have friends who are on debate teams.
A warning to all: The last time we had debates, problems arose. Please be careful. Don't be aggressive. It's not that I think we're incapable of debating; we've had successful debates before. I'm just saying to proceed with caution. But there's nothing wrong with debates in general.

I wouldn't suggest an attempt at another debate. The last time something like this happened, it cause a terrible argument. Imagine the recent 'Issue' debate worsened by five times. The Chatterboxers have tried to make debates many times before, and very few have succeeded. The last one did, but only because two people were participating in it. Of course, if you do somehow make this work, I will be quite amazed.

Maybe we should see how it goes.

Guys Sep said she was Debating over FAKE stuff. Not politics or any of that Just FAKE stuff.
Going into full gear over something that isnt going to happen is a bit overactive. Remember this is just for fun, not to slam our views and beliefs into other peoples face(I don't see Sep doing that, do you?)
So no I don't think a debate over how heavy a holiday hero should be is going to be five times worse then a war;) So just calm down. I think we're all a bit peevish of anything that might upset our views right know but that doesnt give anyone the right to refuse Sep a little fun in debating. :)

Agreed.

I've never done debate before, but I think I'd be okay at it, and I'd love to try.
Don't worry, I'll try my hardest to be respectful.

I'm going to need a lot of help, as I've never done this before. I'm sorry if it's a lot of trouble.
