Holiday music!!!!!!!!
General place to discuss holiday music, and holiday songs by our favorite artists!
What are some of your favorite holiday or Christmas songs? What about Christmas albums? Songs you've played or sung? Favorite versions of songs?
Probably the coolest song to sing in a choir is Carol of the Bells. I sang it last year--I was an alto. It sounds so cool and feels so cool.
I like the Barbara Streisand Christmas album and the Michael Buble one. Coincidentally, my two favorite versions of Jingle Bells are from those albums.
Right now I'm listening to Leslie-Odom Jr's Christmas album for the first time, called Simply Christmas. That's right, I said Leslie--our beloved actor who played Aaron Burr in Hamilton. He loves jazz music. His Christmas album is really nice--I loved his version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." His singing is beautiful, and relaxing too.
Also, in orchestra we were playing holiday music--one of the songs we played was called Svivon, a Hannukah song. It was mostly plucking, and it sounded very cool. The highest level of orchestra, Chamber, played another Hannukah song called Hannukah Joys, and it was even cooler! It had a very cool tune, and at the end it got faster and faster. We also played a very intense song called Winter Solstice.

I play a few Christmas and Christmas-related songs on piano. Among them are Winter Wonderland, Ukrainian Carol (Carol of the Bells) and Canon in D Major (Pachelbel).

#CAROLOFTHEBELLSFOREVER!!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE the feel of the music and the all signature ups and downs- MMMMMMMMMMMH. Love. It.
As for other Christmas songs. Meh. The popular "santa lovey" stuff I'm not a fan of but will bear it if I absolutely have to. Id listen to bluegrass over that anytime. ;)

I LOVE Christmas music!!!!!!!! I like to listen to almost all Chritmas carols and I can play some on my flute. I really love playing Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree on the flute. One of the only Christmas carols I don't like is Santa Claus is Comin to Town. (Don't mix that up with Here Comes Santa Claus Right Down Santa Claus Lane. I like that one.) I feel like it is overplayed, and it's kind of creepy. It goes He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows whe you're awake, He knows if you've been bad o good, so be good for goodness sake. That's kind of terrifying!

*laughs* Yeah, a lot of people point out the weirdness of those lyrics. I'm sure there are plenty of creepy Santa Claus Is Comin To Town parodies...not that I've looked; I don't think I'd want to listen to one.

My other favorite Christmas album is the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. It has my favorite Christmas instrumentals.

Has anyone heard "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" by Pentatonix!!??
It's really good!

Finally! Someone else that's heard Pentatonix!!!!! :D I LOVE that one. Have you heard Hallujah and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen?
I love all Christmas songs, honestly, but especially ones done by Pentatonix and Home Free. How Great Thou Art by Home Free..look it up. Now. I'll wait for you.
Pretty good, right?

Carol of the bells is really good too. The holiday songs that I like the most that are only instruments are The Nutcracker March, and the music from the Charlie Brown Christmas movie/album. We played The Nutcracker March in a band concert when I was in 5th or 6th grade and it was really fun. I did holiday band at my school, which is pretty much an after school band thing where you play holiday music. It was really fun.

I've been listening to Christmas music since November! (Mainly because the local radio station starts playing it on November 1st)
I really love Christmas Canon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and some arrangements of Winter Wonderland (mainly instrumental). I also like Linus & Lucy from the Peanuts (original) Christmas Special, and all versions of The 12 Days of Christmas.
My least favorite Christmas song is probably Frosty the Snowman. No matter who sings it.

Today I remembered that one of my absolute favorite Christmas carols is Sleigh Ride. We tried to play it in band today and it actually sounded pretty good. (I think)

Pentatonix and Lady Antebellum have the best Christmas albums ever. Lady Antebellum is a country band, and I'm usually not into that kind of stuff, but look up their version of Silent Night. It's awesome.

I love Pentatonix's Christmas songs! I don't actually have them yet, but I want to get them.
