Here ye, here ye!*blows trumpet* The prince is giving a balllll....

Welcome to the Reeeeenaissance, with poets, painters, and--oops, I meant welcome to the Unofficial Musical Theater Chat Thread, so musical theater lovers, unite!

Here we can blab noooooon-stop about musicals, soundtracks we've been listening to, shows we've seen, shows we want to see/listen to, shows we've been in, dance classes, funny stories, composers, actresses, actors, techies, and random musical references. Our love for theater is unlimited. Unlimited...my future is unlimited...

By the way, do you guys recognize some of the references?

So, recently me my family and I saw a regional production of Into the Woods, and I LOVED it!!! The woman who played the Witch was terrific, and had a totally different voice type than that of the original cast soundtrack, so it was a cool experience. Cinderella had a lovely voice, and I enjoyed the Baker's Wife a lot. Milky White was funny. The set design was also cool--they had a creative way of doing transition scenes, and the set was almost constantly changing slightly, usually the alignment of the trees.

I had already really gotten into Into the Woods months before. I really love that soundtrack. I've listened to it over and over and over again. My favorite songs are the opening song (Prologue), I Know Things Now, Giants In the Sky, and Your Fault/Last Midnight. And No One Is Alone--it's a beautiful, truthful song, and it can be really powerful. The performance of it that we saw nearly brought me to tears--it made me think of a lot of things.

If I had to pick two favorites, it would definitely be No One is Alone and the Prologue. I love that one--hearing all the different parts, how they switch and intertwine, and some parts get so exciting. It's one of my favorite opening songs ever. Hey, that's yet another thing to talk about: opening songs.

It's the opening song

It doesn't have a title, no!

And it's not very long

But it's the starting point of our musical

And here's the first scene of our musical!

So, what do you have to talk about? What musicals have you listened to or seen recently?

Ha, do you want a list of all the shows I've seen? Most are from my little theatre in the little town I live in. But I have seen a few in NYC, and a lot in Denver. Most are what my brother has been in. Yes, he is a professional actor. Shows me up, that's for shore. Any who, here it is!

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Carol (my brother is currently in that one does it every year since he was 8)

I love you. Your perfect. Now change.

Lion king (duh)

Wicked

Cats

Alladin

Matilda

Jungle book the musical

Shrek

Beauty and the beast

The little mermaid

Frozen the musical

The rockets (not a musical, but it was an awsom show)

Hedwig and the angry inch (dont go see that until your 18 kids. It's great and all, but I am scared for life now. Just like Avenu Q. For adults only. It should be rated DR. (Double R))

Avenue Q

The makings of the wizard of oz

Narnia

Charlie and the chocolate factory

The nutcracker

Uh uh...I'm spacing. There's like, a lot more, but that's all I can remember now. Those are the memorable, at least.

Yeah, Avenue Q is pretty...yeah. It has some really funny songs though.

As for Hedwig and the Angry Inch, I've only listened to two songs, but I'll take your word for it.

Book of Mormon is supposed to be a really terrific musical...my parents saw it a few years ago and said it was unbelievably funny. However it's like, definitely R rated. It's kinda infamous in that way. I don't know the details, but I'm glad I don't XD

Ummm... you guys probably already know that I like Hamilton. So I will talk about something else.

Oooh, so about two weeks ago we auditioned for the school musical, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," which I wasn't so sure about at first, but it's actually pretty funny. I auditioned with Dear Theodosia and I got Mr. Bratt. Except I'm a girl. So I am now Ms. Bratt, which I'm really really happy about!!! She is the personnel manager and actually a pretty big role, which is why I'm happy because I usually get ensemble roles in big school musicals. My brother got the lead, whose name is J Pierrepont Finch and is kind of annoying. Like my brother.

Anyways, also a few weeks ago (actually the day before my audition,) I saw Wicked, which was amazing. I had already seen it before a few years ago but it was really different than the other time and I loved it.

Gah I have to go.

Ah yes! I love theater!  Right now I'm practicing for "Cinderella~The World's Favorite Fairy Tale" which is basically a bunch of different versions of the Cinderella story from different parts of the world, ex.  There's the Chinese (The one I'm in), Russian, Native American, African, Egyptian, and the original which appears between parts to tie the whole thing together.  Its really fun!  My part is Pear Blossom (The Chinese Cinderella), which is as you've probably guessed a pretty big part. (I really hope this doesn't sound like I'm bragging cuz' I'm not; well trying not to;)

It's actually not a full out "Production" It's an acting class for 9-17 or something*shrug* I'm not completely sure.  I also do choir as a full out operatic FIRST SOPRANO!!! (Which is even higher then the second sopranos:3 our teacher is really fun and I think has really helped us strengthen our vocal skills, as well as introduce us to a ton of cringy puns.

Why did Mozart hate chickens so much?

Cus they we always saying BACH!! HA!

Anyways, thanks for making this thread OwlG (I gave you a nickname:3HA!
