Chatterbox: Down to Earth
Note from Admin
Note from Admin
Cricket’s mission is to promote reading, writing, creativity, and community among all kids ages 9 to 14. We want the Chatterbox to be a welcoming place where everyone who visits feels encouraged to join in the stories and discussions.
Not every topic on which you have passionate convictions is appropriate for this forum. Because of the range of age and maturity levels of kids who come to the Chatterbox, it remains our policy that this is not the place for discussions of gender identity issues and other controversial issues. Our older magazine for teens, CICADA, hosts a forum called the Slam, at cicadamag.com/theslam, with active discussion of gender issues within a very creative and supportive community.
A second CB policy is that posts must be respectful and never hurtful. Disagreements are expected, but recently admins have had to delete, or leave unposted, a number of comments that, perhaps unintentionally, crossed the line of what we will allow. The admins become especially concerned when comments, whether meant to or not, have the effect of suppressing or shaming who another CBer is. That is not allowed.
The stories and role plays CBers create are mostly tales of adventure and light romance that can be enjoyed by kids in the full age range of the Chatterbox. A third fundamental Chatterbox policy is that stories about sexual themes, or with scenes of disturbing violence, drug abuse, etc., will not be posted.
These polices help us make the Chatterbox an exceptionally great community of readers and friends.
In creating the character DJ, Gared did not violate any of the above policies, and so his character was, and is, allowed. We hope that other CBers, while respecting the sensitivities of the broader Chatterbox community, will also feel comfortable creating characters as they wish to imagine them.
The Chatterbox is a big space with room for all. The admins will continue to monitor posts and comments closely, and there will always be borderline cases of what’s appropriate. The admins will try to make judgments that are in the best interests of the CB community and of individual CBers.
This thread will be left open for a few days for everyone to process what has been said. Then—following the first policy above—it will be closed to new comments so that everyone can get back to creating stories and discussing books with their friends.

Exactly. Well said. I know this is supposed to be a rule that is fair and kind to everyone, and I respect that, but it doesn't feel like much of a compromise.

Wouldn't that hurt feelings, though? It's like not allowing black people in your RP, because you are the creator and you said so.

I completely agree with Just Another CBer. Admins can we please change this bit of the policy? I know for sure no one that I know of on here is gonna make a "Hate Gay People" thread, and no one's going to make an RP discrimiating against Gay or LGBT people. But it does make some people uncomfortable if soemone makes a gay character on their thread or RP. And if we want to put this argument behind us this isnt gonna help if I make a thread and *blank* comes over and makes a gay character on it. First off people (like me) are going to get uncomfortable which goes against the "Everyone should be safe and comfortable policy"
I also know for a fact nobody going to post "No gay or LGBT people allowed, this is a straight people thread only"
Nobody I know of is going to do this. The CB isnt like that. The CBers I know arent like that.

I agree as well.

YES, JACB!!!!!!

I think, if the policy stands, that if anyone made a gay Charrie on one of my RPs, I'd just leave.
(December 19, 2016 - 6:28 pm)
My Mom suggested that to me, but I can't lose my AEs ... I just can't ...
(December 20, 2016 - 7:30 pm)
I am on here with people who support things I don't, and have I left? Your AEs are fine. They tread in their own circle, and I tread in my own.

WTW guys?! W.T.W (that does not stand for what you think it means, it means What The What) People can be sho they want to be when they watnt to be and how they want to be. There is no chaging this. I know many gay people, and they are the nicest people ever. My parents believe in everyone's rights, and I have stepped clear off that line of getting them involved. BUT, they do check Cricket every once in a while to make sure that I'm being 'nice' or something along that line. So if this doesn't end soon...I may also have to leave. I don't want to, so can we please end it before my parents come on? The Admins have made their decisions, and what's the point in arguing? People will make gay charries, and gay charries can be extremely nice, just like gay people in person. So please, keep your minds open and lets drop things. PLEASE GUYS. I'M BEGGING YOU!
Goes into Le Mis, *Look down, and see, the beggers at your feet! Look down, look down! Upon your fellow me-en.*
Claaws and everyone else, we do plan to close discussion on this topic at the end of this week.

Admin said that those thread would be closed soon. I agree with admins. On pretty much everything they have said. I will miss whoever's leaving. Can we all please be nice, accept (or even if you don't accept, don't be rude to that person) and move on? Also, I do have an opinion on this subject, but there's no need for me to share it, really, at least on CB. Thank you for your time. Let's all please be friends now.
