Welcome to the...
Welcome to the... Engineering thread!!
We can use this thread to talk about engineering, but before any science-haters out there leave, that's not the main point of this thread. I made a quiz about what type of engineer you are, with eleven possible answers... so even if you're not an engineering person (or don't think you are...), go ahead and take it!
Rules:
- Be honest!
- Most questions are multiple choice, but always feel free to pick several answers or add your own.
- This one is for me: I will make sure I check at least once a day for new answers, and when yours has shown up I will post the results as soon as I see it!

10. Choose one big thing you could picture yourself doing when you're older:
a. Help people gain access to safe, affordable housing
b. Research cures for fatal diseases
c. Find safe and environmentally friendly solutions for generating energy
11. Choose one smaller thing you could picture yourself doing when you're older (or why not now?!):
a. Build a table out of scrapwood
b. Organizing a trash pickup at your local park
c. Tutoring kids after school
12. And finally... which one/s of these things are you impressed by? (please don't add any answers to this one :)
a. Bridges and skyscrapers
b. Airplanes and spacecraft, or just space and the atmosphere in general
c. Cars, batteries, x-rays, refridgerators, printers, cameras... need I continue?!
d. The human body
e. Electricity
f. Computers and phones
g. Atoms, molecules, and other microscopic things that make up life (If this is you, what seems more interesting: how they interact and are made up, or how we can control them to make energy?)
h. Plants and animals
i. The internet
j. Boats, submarines, and the ocean itself
And yes, I've been posting recently and will make sure I give you answers to this quiz... but that doesn't mean I'm back :)
Thanks for taking this! Enjoy your results and engineer on!!!

1. Math. HATE IT. I'm not that bad at it, my teacher just isn't the best. Let's just say I learn more from studying on my own than I do at school.
2. C
3. B
4. B
5. (I added my own answer for this one, since none of the answers really worked for me..) mirrors creep me out. Once, I wrote a horror story about them, and now whenever I see a mirror, I have to convince myself that the person on the other side is just a reflection, not a warped version of myself bent on trying to kill me.
6. Either B, C or G
7. Both D and E, depending.
8. Work on my book, read, draw, paint, play the clarinet, play the recorder, play with my sister, play with my dog, play with my cat, post stuff on cricket, world building for my book, character development for my book, finding new hiding spots in my house, learning new techniques to evade people, practice turning invisible (there's a trick to it!), making movies.
9. A veterinarian or archeologist. I enjoyed animals, ancient Egypt and dinosaurs.
10. Either A or C.
11. Definitely A. I've already done it.
12. B, D and H.

Congratulations! You have the makings of a good engineer. You are creative, a problem solver, and a good communicator, all very important in every engineering career. You have the brains to do math very well, just not the interest/learning situation.
As for what kind of engineer, you got... environmental engineer!
Some environmental engineers make sure that different factories and power plants are complying with environmental laws and regulations. Not your piece of cake? Environmental engineers do a lot of research on ways to reduce air pollution and convert different kinds of waste into energy. Others gather and analyze data on how human activity affects the environment. Yet others advise and inform people about how to take care of nature, wildlife, and themselves.

You have the makings of a good engineer! You are smart, creative, inquisitive, and communicate things concisely and effectively.
You like tinkering and building things, and are interested by a lot of the inventions in the world around you, so mechanical engineering may be for you. Mechanical engineers do a wide variety of things, mostly coming up with and perfecting new inventions.
Other ideas: Biomedical engineer or aerospace engineer.

My parents sometimes say I should be an engineer...so it should be interesting to see what kind of engineer this survey says I am.
I had half the survey done yesterday but it got deleted!!! D: Here we go again!
1. What are your thoughts/skills with math-- Do you struggle with it, do well, or do kind of okay? Also, do you dislike it, enjoy it, or is it not-terrible-not-amazing?
I love math! Well, when it's not official school math. I like being able to pull the formulas out of my head and use them. This year, I'm doing Algebra 2!
(December 2, 2016 - 12:50 pm)
My suggestion for you is biomedical engineer. Biomedical engineers are kind of a cross between doctors and engineers, using their expertise in both areas to design prosthetic limbs and sometimes new types of medicines. Some also work with animals!

I do Legos. Does that count?
1. What are your thoughts/skills with math-- Do you struggle with it, do well, or do kind of okay? Also, do you dislike it, enjoy it, or is it not-terrible-not-amazing?
I hate it, but I'm good at it.
2. Would you rather work...
a. by yourself
3. Do you get bored?
c. Sometimes
4. When you have to read a long list of instructions, do you tend to skim it?
b. A little, but only the parts that don't seem important.
5. What are your feelings on mirrors?
a. They're mirrors...
6. Other than engineering, what career/s do you think you'd want to go into?
No, I'm becoming an author.
7. When you have a question, you...
c. Ask whoever happens to be nearby.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
*shrugs* It depends. Legoing, writitng, reading, grawing, loom knitting ... The list goes on.
9. When you were in early elementary school, what job/s did you dream of having when you grew up?
LOL. I wanted to be a paleontologist. I ADORED dinosaurs.

a. Bridges and skyscrapers
or
h. Plants and animals

My suggestion for you is civil engineer. 'Cause that's basically legos right??? Civil engineers help design and build everything from bridges to schools to water treatment plants, dealing a lot with some of the more technical aspects of architectures, such as making sure buildings have strong infrastructure.
(December 5, 2016 - 1:48 pm)
(December 4, 2016 - 12:24 am)
My suggestion for you is industrial engineer. Industrial engineers figure out new systems and protocol for making sure time and materials are not wasted in industry, as well as finding new ways for organization and making sure guidelines are being followed.
(December 5, 2016 - 2:01 pm)
(December 4, 2016 - 11:39 am)
My suggestion for you is electrical engineer. Electrical engineers do lots of different things, including working to develop new ways to generate energy, turning the vague desires of many regarding a renewable, reliable, and economical way to generate electricity into reality.
Other suggestions: Nuclear engineer or chemical engineer
(December 5, 2016 - 2:15 pm)
(December 4, 2016 - 5:00 pm)
My suggestion for you is marine engineer. Since you love marine biology and the ocean, you might enjoy designing new ships and submarines. A lot of this work can be done in an office, but sometimes marine engineers go out and test new vessels on the open seas. However, it does involve math, so I'd say being a marine bioligist would be a good way to go!
Other ideas: Environmental engineer or biomedical engineer.
