MOANA!!!!!!!
Chatterbox: Down to Earth
MOANA!!!!!!!
MOANA!!!!!!!
Hold on, let me freak out for a second-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, if you haven't seen this movie, see it now. If you don't like Disney, see it anyway. It is by far Disney's best movie yet, in my opinion, and I honestly wouldn't change anything about it. (I've been waiting two years for this- I had incredibly high expectations, and it exceeded all of them) The animation was so beautiful! The islands and the ocean and the people- especially Moana, she was not stick thin like most (if not every) other Disney princess. The character developement was amazing, and I could relate to them even though they were Pacific Islanders from who knows how many years ago. And the best part- spoilers ahead- (I'll write it backwards)

AHHH!!!!!!!!
This movie made me so happy, and even if you aren't into this type of stuff it has enough comedy that you'll like it, I promise. There is an idiot chicken, an adorable pig, a giant hoarder crab that's covered in sparkles, and a huge DEMIGOD (hey, PJO fans), what's not to love? Also, Disney has brought us another awesome grandma. It's amazing!
Moana is an awesome movie, I definitely recommend it to everyone.

YES! I saw it yesterday. I was so. Pumped. Know why?
LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA WROTE THE SONGS! I even heard his voice singing in the background in a couple songs. I check his Twitter every day (I don't even HAVE a Twitter XD) and kept seeing all sorts of cool stuff about it.
Okay, other stuff I liked about the musical:
1. "How Far I'll Go" that was definitely my favorite song. It's pretty powerful.
2. The chicken. Hay-Hay, or Hey-Hey, or Hae-Hae, whatever. He made me laugh so hard.
3. No romance. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with Disney romance. I just appreciate that this movie is different, that it has a young heroine who doesn't need to mess with romance.
4. Moana is probably the yougests princess, which makes her more amazing. She would probably be around my age, actually. I believe Disney made her young because of she were older, there would probably be awkwardness with Maui, or God forbid, people would ship it. Because Moana is so young there can be no romantic tension, or that would be weird and pedophilic.
5. SPOILER*****************This is the last point so no need to risk it and scroll down.
I loved the twist at the end, where the lava monster was actually where she needed to put the stone, that the so-called monster was actually Mother Takiti, searching for the heart.
*********SPOILER END*****
(November 25, 2016 - 9:30 pm)
YES! I was totally not expecting the monster to actually be Mother Takiti or however you spell it. Heihei is my new favorite sidekick. The music is pretty good, I actually like the songs that are in Hawaiian (or another language???) best. I strongly agree with numbers 3 & 4- I like romance, but sometimes it's good to have a movie where there isn't any and you can just have this awesome, funny, relatable, strong, real female lead.
Also, baby Moana is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! The part where she rescuses the baby sea turtle was about the cutest minute of animation I have ever seen. (and probably will ever see)
(November 25, 2016 - 10:07 pm)
Yes, protecting the baby sea turtle was the cutest thing ever!
I also loved how when all the other toddlers were terrified and half of them fainted at the story, she was all wide-eyed and clapping.
I think all the toddler Moana scenes was a good way to start the movie.

wow, ok location reveal.
I live in Hawaii. I doubt anyone on the CB will believe me but it is true. i am going to see Moana tomorrow and be warned, I will probably be back on this thread to rant about how historically inaccurate it is. But it might fit Hawaiian mythology like a glove. We shall see ;)
(November 25, 2016 - 10:31 pm)
I know right? I watched this movie on Thanksgiving; and it was so beautiful!
I searched it up; Moana is 14 yrs. old; and if you search it up, she IS the youngest princess; right next to Snow White, who is also supposed to be 14.
The rooster made me laugh SO HARD!!
***SPOILER ALERT***
One of my favorite parts of the movie is when Moana finds him in the boat; and then the rooster Hae-Hae looks around, it zooms out, he realizes where he is, and then squawks for all he's worth. :) Another one of my favorite parts (this one made me cry) was when Moana's mother saw her when Moana was packing up to leave; and just knelt down and helped her pack!
***END SPOILER ALERT***
I adored all of the songs; my siblings and I were singing "You're welcome" from what we could remember from yesterday. My favorite song though is probably "I am Moana" and "How far I'll go."
I loved the characters; they were so beautifully written with great backstories. One of my very favorite characters is Moana's Mom. She was a "minor character," and didn't talk much, but was very supportive of Moana.
***SPOILER ALERT***
One thing that made me mad though, was the Goddess Tahiti not speaking at all at the very end! I wanted her to speak SO BAD!!
***END SPOILER ALERT***
But one small warning: If you are cry easily, THIS MOVIE WILL MAKE YOU CRY. It will make you cry HARD. :)

Whoa, Snow White was fourteen?! Way too young for all the stuff that happened to her! She looks older. She's definitely too young to be kissing some older prince she just met and getting married!
Sorry to change the subject. Anywhoooo I agree, I like Moana's mom. I liked the part where she helped Moana pack. You could see the moment pass between them, and that added to the power of the scene.
(November 26, 2016 - 2:06 pm)
Well, in the fairytale she's actually seven so... Yeah. Awk-wahd.
(November 26, 2016 - 11:06 pm)
Eeee I really want to see it but I haven't yet! It sounds really good. I would go for LMM's songs alone... :P
(November 25, 2016 - 11:29 pm)
I'm DYING to watch it!
(November 26, 2016 - 8:53 am)
I LITERALLY JUST CAME BACK FROM THE THEATER. LOVED IT SO DARN MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't the chicken adorable? The crab freaked me out, and Mauoi's a bit of a jerk (did I spell that right? Mauoi?). Disney is doing a great job! Also, the music was awesome!
(November 26, 2016 - 4:30 pm)
I loved the crab. Did you stay until the little clip at the end of the credits?
(November 26, 2016 - 9:03 pm)
ok, I just got back from the movie theater. Moana was surprisingly accurate but there are a few points that were totally off.
1. Native Hawaiians did not have calico pigs. They did bring pigs from Polynesia but they were black wild boars.
2. The rooster was hilarious and I laughed so hard but native Hawaiians had no chickens, they were brought in by captain cook.
3. Some of the plants that make up mauis grass skirt are poisonous. If he were wearing that in real life, his stomach and legs would look like they had just been attacked by a swarm of bees.
4. Most of the plants in the movie were not introduced to Hawaii until American settlers came years and years after this movie took place. These plants include bananas, mangos, plumeria flowers, and many species of jungle plant.
5. The clothes that they wore were a mix of fabric, tapa, leaves, and feathers. Ancient Hawaiians would only have worn tapa which is a plant that has been hammered out so thin that it has the texture of fabric. Regular fabric was, again, only brought in after captain cook visited the islands. Also, feathers were only worn by royalty and even then, they only were brought out during battles or ceremonies.
6. Most of the Myths were wrong, Maui only used his fishhook once to raise the Hawaiian islands from the ocean. It was definitely not the source of his power. Maui was actually the smallest and youngest of many brothers. He was not thrown away by his parents, he did not catch the sun with his hook, he convinced the sun goddess to move it slower.
7. The lava demon/mountain goddess was created by Disney and is not real.
8. at the beginning of the film, they say the world started with the sea, according to the ancient Hawaiians, the world started with po. The god of darkness. Then there was the ocean.
The film itself was good though. I quite enjoyed it but I was kind of sad that the major Hawaiian gods were not included. These included Ku, Kamapua'a, Poliahu and Pele.
(November 26, 2016 - 7:18 pm)
This is really interesting! It's cool to hear from someone who lives in Hawaii's views on this movie.
(November 26, 2016 - 9:01 pm)
I REALLY want to see it! My mom says when I finish 3 chapters of my math book she'll let me watch a movie, and I really want to see this one! Will it still be in theaters after... a month or so? Maybe not. Whatever, I can find a way to watch it!
PS Disney is AWESOME!
PPS Rilla said tree! That's her second word!
