In the eye of the hurricane there is quiet.
Despite political news I wanted to congratulate you all.
I read an old thread--creation vs evolution. And as I read it I realised.. "they weren't..." and I went back into a few REALLY old, like REALLY old threads, with no Mei in them, no SE, no Cho and Cockleburr, no Mirax, no me!
I realised that a long time ago not all CBers were friends.
Congrats guys, we've come a long way.

Yeah, some of the old threads are pretty devisive. It is fun to look at the CB, and how it's changed. I'd also like to say that everyone, although many of us have vastly different political beliefs, are being really civil and kind. (Also, thanks so much for mentioning me. I know it's kind of silly, but that means a lot to me. XD)

And then there's me, of course, who's been here just as long as any of the mentioned (except SE). I think there are less of us now, so it's easier to make friends. I think that the Chatterbox attracts a certain kind of person, and we're all pretty similar, at least as far as similarities can go. It would be hard not to befriend you CBers. We've certainly had our moments, but I couldn't imagine this community is turmoil for longer than a week.

Really? I feel like there are so many more people, and it's really hard to distinguish between people. Maybe I'm just crazy.
Plus BHR, Buttefly, etc. have been here longer than me.

Neither of them are really active, though. Butterfly was for a brief period of time, recently, but I haven't heard from her since.

On the topic of "who's been around here the longest" l remember when the vast majoirty of people here joined.....which frankly wasn't actuully that long ago, heh.

Believe me, I remember those types of threads.
That's the thing, though.
The huge arguments about those things rarely spread past those threads. Often, people would yell and hate at each other, but then be best friends on other threads.
I don't think we've come far, we've just changed. The CB isn't as much about deep issues.
No, that sounds wrong... it's lighter now, I guess. When we began talking about issues like politics, we had the deabte thread. That turned out greet! *sarcastic thumbs up
But seriously, I don't think that today everyone is friends with everyone, I just think we talk less about the things that could cause divides.

I agree with S.E.- those types of threads may have been debate threads, but they weren't threads where people were angry. We need to learn how to debate without being angry.

Maybe it's just me . . . but when I looked up those Evolution vs Creation threads. . . they actually didn't seem that bad? At all? Maybe I wasn't looking at the right one. You're talking about the one from 2011, right?
I mean, nobody called anyone names, nobody yelled, nobody said whether something was either fact, opinion, right or wrong.
Maybe it's just how I perceive arguments.
But anyway, I actually agree with S.E.
