VIOLIN PROBLEMS!
VIOLIN PROBLEMS!
I've been playing the violin since I was 5. My parents won't let me quit, and it's really hard. I can't even do vibrato! I feel like I'm missing something. There isn't much joy in it for me. I also am only in book 3, suzuki method, and my reading is shaky. HELP ME!
I also got a super nice violin in August. And a new chinrest in October. What should I do?

What's that LilyCat? Ohgi? Oh jeez? Thanks, I guess.
Pepper Star, is there an orchestra or other instrumental group you can join? Have you told your parents how you feel? I play violin and I've always enjoyed playing in orchestra or duets with others, even though, I must admit, I really don't like practicing. It is hard work, but I do it so I can learn my part and enjoy the group performance. I've played for many years now, and I don't have a very good vibrato either. I was never an outstanding violinist when I was a student, but now our community orchestra needs string players and is happy to have me. I look forward to rehearsals and concerts.

hey pepper star, I play violin too. I have been playing for about twelve years now. I know how frustrating it can be. For the first five years I played I had the same problems with motivation and practice. Once I was older though I found a style of music called fiddling and I loved it. I met so many people through this style of music and with fiddle to motivate me I was able to appreciate classical music more. What if you ask your teacher for some side pieces that are different styles? Try some new things to give your fingers a break from classical. I am a fan of Celtic/Irish music but it is different for each person. If you want any recommendations please ask. Also, it took me AGES to learn vibrato.
